I have owned this beautiful mounted Buffalo Head since 1971. It has the "printed name" of Bill Cody in pencil and is dated 1885.
I live in East Moline Il, and acquired this head from a Mickey O'Connor. He claimed to be of Indian descent and said it was from a Reservation near Cody, Wy.
I suspect that Mr. O'Connor was from Nebraska and maybe had brought the head from there. I know he was married in Omaha.
I have talked with several people and have been told they thought came from a RailRoad stop in the "Old West" The Cody Museum in Cody, Wyoming said that the Railroad had hired Bill Cody to kill buffalo for food and clothing.
They also told me that they took the nicer heads and mounted them in RR Stations and that not many known exist. The museum told me that this might be one.
I may want to sell this if there is any interest.
