OVERVIEW OF CLASS
CLASSROOM (ASHORE KNOWLEDGE)
* learn parts of boat and sail
* discuss all points of sail
* introduce sailing terms such as tacking, jibing, commands used on the water
* learn responsibilities of skipper, crew and helmsman
* essential safety equipment required by federal law
* Rules of the Road (give-way or stand-on vessel)
* learn to tie knots
* discuss deck safety, hypothermia and MOB rescue methods
ON-THE-WATER (SKILLS AFLOAT)
* learn to raise and lower the sails
* sail on all points of sail - close haul, beam reach, run
* heaving to or stopping the boat
* MOB rescue
* dock the boat and secure for next sail
WRITTEN EXAM
* minimum score of 80% is required
* re-testing (if needed) |
