Jimmy Chamberlin was born on June 10 1964 in Joliet, Illinois. Brother was a jazz drummer, so was his father, so Jimmy also started drumming, before the Smashing Pumpkins, he played in jazz bands, like JP and the Cats, Eddie Karosa's Polka Party, T Skittles, Sushi Cowboys, Stadium Drive, and the Mojo Blues Band. Billy hired him in 1988 when the band opened for Jane's Addiction. Jimmy never really listened to rock, but was extremely impressed by Billy's guitar intensity.
Then in July 1996 in New York City, he was touring with keyboard player Jonathan Melvoin, they overdosed on heroin. Unfortunatly Jonathan died, and Jimmy was arrested. Billy, James, and D'arcy kicked out Jimmy from the band.
Chamberlin took drug rehab. When he was done , he joined a band called the Last Hard Men, who recorded a cover of Alice Cooper's "School's Out". The Last Hard Men Consisted of Kelley Deal, Sebastien Bach, and Jimmy Flemion.
In February of 1999, Billy and Jimmy went out for lunch. The two resolved their differences. Jimmy Chamberlin was rehired for the drummer once again, and played for the Arising! Tour, Machina: the Machines of God, and the tour for the album support.
