Junction Ward By-Election 7th June 2001
---------------------------------------
A case for Junction Ward Residents
----------------------------------
A Town Hall of disgrace under Lib - Lab,

Call for a new renewal under the Conservatives
----------------------------------------------

Through your pages, I would like to tell your readers where I stand.

As the people of Junction Ward move toward the by-election on 7th June, I wish to take this opportunity to ask the voters to think long and hard about the consequences of voting yet again for the forces of Lib – Lab.

This area has had a Labour MP for the last 64 years and either a Labour or Liberal council for even longer. The area has spiralled into one where the poorest residents are among the poorest in the country.

Junction residents have been asked to pay a fortune in Council Tax over the years, only to see it disappear through waste and bureaucracy.

Our housing is in a disgraceful state, one in which people should not have to live in this day and age. Security is non-existent and crime flourishes.

Labour brought along ITNet and the LibDems rewarded them with a bonus. It is hard to remain calm when thinking of the distress caused to Junction residents. This saga ranks as one of the most disgraceful episodes in Islington’s shameful history.

The state of our education has become famous through its failings and only now, after being forced to take tentative steps, has it shown any signs of recovery. Islington should heed the message and devolve all control, and yes, money, directly to the schools themselves. The money should not go anywhere near Islington Town Hall!

Congestion charges are being implemented far too quickly. The public transport infrastructure is in a terrible state and the roads around Junction just could not cope with the increase in traffic as a result of people trying to avoid the charge.

Across the borough, people are genuinely starting to realise that Labour and LibDems do not deserve another day controlling the lives of the residents so terribly.

It is time to vote for Common Sense! It is time to vote for a Conservative councillor!

God bless you all!

Sadiq Ajiya
Conservative candidate
Junction Ward
April 7th, 2001

------------------------

Your vote could make the difference in the council by-election on June 7th. There has been a Labour or Liberal Council in Islington for over three generations! What has been achieved? Have they helped those who elected them?
Conservative candidate Sadiq Ajiya is determined to work on behalf of his fellow Junction residents. He wants to fight to reduce crime, improve Islington's schools and improve our housing estates.
Labour brought along ITNet to manage benefits and they built up a backlog of 18,000 cases. People were wrongly evicted and thousands were caused untold suffering. Now the LibDems have rewarded them with a bonus.
The state of education in Islington has become famous through its failings.
Millions of pounds have been cut from the Council's budget, not by reducing the waste and bureaucracy but by reducing front-line services such as the voluntary sector.

Labour and LibDems do not deserve another day controlling the lives of the residents so terribly.
Sadiq Ajiya's ~ pledges
1. Fight for improved security 2. Provide Islington children
with a decent education
3. Make our housing estates a better place to live
4. Cut waste and provide better value in services
5. Give more power to Junction residents
------------------------------------------

Sadiq, 38, is a long-time Junction resident. Married to Farida with two children (Adam and Omar), Sadiq works as a Freight Manager for an international company.

Sadiq says: "I am delighted and honoured to be contesting Junction ward. Islington council is in great need of some common sense and, as a local man, I am sure I can deliver it. The local schools are a disgrace, and security in our area is dreadful. I shall fight for good value services for Junction residents, young and old."
"I am determined to see local people having a far greater say in the running of the council. I will work to give more opportunities for residents to air their views and develop local forums.
"If elected, I shall encourage Sadiq Ajiya with his family multicultural activities and work to broaden mutual respect and understanding by all residents living in the area."
Local Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, Neil Rands said: "Sadiq is a great choice. His enthusiasm is infectious. Sadiq is very well known and liked In the area and I look forward to working alongside him. Islington Council has continually wasted money and offered disgraceful services. Sadiq's selection is a real start to end this madness."
