The moral imperatives to peace and security…

Without getting into the garment of linguistic and religious exegesis and in order to make a balance viewpoint, it is very imperative to put things into perspective from the outset.

In order for the US to live up to its name – the only 21st century remaining super power in the world, she must address her economic-cum-political involvement in the Middle East as well as the rest of the third world countries.

US needs to reshape and invigorate its policies in the following areas: petroleum interests, military and development aids and the use of economic sanctions especially over Iraq, Iran, Libya, Pakistan and Cuba etc. as of prime importance to redress the “extreme time bomb” waiting to explode.
The so-called “forces of civilisations” are no more than America’s inept disregard and failing to change to new realism based on justice and equality.
These are forces that would threaten America’s hegemony not only in the Middle East, Far East and Africa, but also even in Europe.

The hatred for America is not simply based on envy of her freedom and wealth, but for her policies.
What that means is due to her indifference to Arab/ Muslim lives and properties when they are destroyed by war planes, ammunitions and bullets supplied to the Israeli soldiers.

The injustice felt by the Palestinians and Arabs-Israeli citizens treated as second class in their own country.

Israeli’s continuing and persistent utter disregard to Security Council resolutions backed by America’s veto also bread extremism.

Muslims are unfairly treated and given bad press coverage as extremists; fundamentalists etc. for pitiful action of minority zealots, whilst not so when done by say ETA, IRA or other groups.

I am not afraid of speaking about my belief and patriotism.

Terrorism should and must be defeated through the auspices of United Nations General Assembly.

As a Muslim, I fully support my government’s right to self-defence, but I also see it imperative to pursue the killers of my fellow innocent countrymen and women by due process of law.
In doing so, she must not violate the rights and sanctity of others, because two wrongs do not make a right! Injustice is injustice and so are rights!

It is inevitable, actions will happen and that something will take place in the next few days ahead and what type of action remains to be seen.

Whatever happens, let us hope that it would be beneficial to world peace and that it would serve as a wake-up call to the larger Muslim-World and let us learn from there.

The New World Order (NOW) has too many ramifications; let America engage the rest of the world in solving the Arabs-Israelis conflict.

Under the New Re-Arranged World Order, let the larger nations of the world community take control of global peace and order rather than leaving things to the United States.

With September 11 attacks, I hope America would now see the urgent need to work with other nations in solving contemporary world issues as equal partners.

Consequently, the moral option is very compelling. The moral has implications namely, for US to preserve freedom and wealth, she must use her power wisely and equitably. Cry, outrage and demand justice when she finds herself killed and attack in the inferno following the WTC and DC horrific attacks, but share the same when your very policies led to the death of thousands Palestinians, Iraqis and probably not so long away Afghanistan people.

A Case against war in Afghanistan to avert humanitarian disaster

Evidence provided thus far over the tragic recent attacks in the US is still suspect and not convincing to the general the public.
Every thing is done in secrete under the disguise of jeopardising security.

Natural law dictates that it is only wise to make public and in the absent of that, the moral argument for war is weakened.
Such evidence should be concise, correct, complete and comprehensive as it would be compelling.

For weeks, America has been trying to attack Afghanistan, but it does not know how, where and when to begin.

Obviously the Saudis have categorically refused the use of their base to launch an attack against a fellow Islamic country.

Conspicuously, Iran with no formal relations and still regarded by the US amongst the so-called rouge states, despite its disagreement with the Taleban has to some extent managed to convince the majority of Islamic countries not to back any military attack in the area.
Another possibility is the use of Uzbekistan, a neighbouring Muslim country and that seems feasible, and however this option looks very undependable either given that country’s relations with Washington.

Quite diplomacy is taken place across Asia (Russia and Japan) and Europe (Nato members) and the Middle East especially amongst key influential countries in the region.

Iran, Saudi and Egypt are getting closer – united in their condemnation of America’s aparent lack of heavy handiness in condemning and restraining Israelis suppression and over use of force against the Palestinians and failing to reach a just settlement.

The greatest test facing Washington is who would replace the Taleban?
Recent romance between the former Afghanistan King Shah and Northern Alliance are countered productive and would place the country even further into stalemate, quagmire and political uncertainty.

Policy-makers in Washington need to think the unthinkable – full engagement with the Taleban as a way forward to lasting peace and stability. On its part, Taleban should be encouraged to establish a broad-based government to include some of the other parties, or by extending self determination over the area which they exercise control, but must be under a united Afghanistan.

Anything short, would be a recipe for generations of civil unrest, which could spill deserter even beyond.

Destabilising Afghanistan would have the consequences of bringing the two nuclear adversaries to a state of near total war. The result would mean disaster for the region.

With Russia in a feeble state it is today, central Asian Republics would make the situation in Chechnya, Kosovo and former Yugoslavia a picnic.

America can wage war as a super power as and when it chooses to, but the moral question is why?

From all indication, these countries are getting irritated by lack of making any meaningful progress and are genuinely disquiet over US policies in the region.
These are good developments. It goes to show that unity in the Muslim world is possible and that collective effort is the task of all embracing to see that our Islamic leaders speak with one voice and meant what they say.

They can regain respect and honour by standing in unison together, as they should be by common goal of restoring Islamic renaissance to which they should dedicate themselves in this global village of super highway otherwise, they would be swept away by generations yearning for change.

What is right for the west should also be right for the Islamic states. We have common goals and aspiration, to better ourselves as well as to prosper while still maintaining our Islamic value-system.
We are challenged to mobilise our entire human and material resources excel in all spheres of endeavours – sky is the limit.

We must stop fighting each other and appreciate our great potential.
We can and we must live up to the challenge of being God’s representatives on earth.

In recent weeks there have been appetite for war in the west, but it must be acknowledged that peace must not be left in a vacuum, hence every effort should be made coupled with balanced, purpose and justice, otherwise peace is doomed and disaster would reign.

The Concept of Dialogue – Afghanistan

The world economy continues to look grim, and is already entering into recession, deep gloom and bleak.

Analysts suggest that major economies would experience negative growth even with the most of all prudence intervention.

Major sectors are also showing financial balances and over-capacity.
What that means to the rest of the world is any one’s guess.

The arguments against war are overwhelming.

For the protection and preservation of world security and in order to avert humanitarian catastrophic unimaginable, America must seek to charge or indict those accused of the NY and DC crimes through the due process of law under International court of Justice rather than through gun diplomacy.

Significantly, there is hardly clear evidence yet and aims and objectives of the over all campaign are very vague. Furthermore, there is apparent ingenuity and lack of clear policy and scope for a limited dialogue; in short everything is shredded in secrecy.

The imminent of war’s still not receding and there is no prospect for peace either.

In the concept of dialogue, must a super power unleash its mass array of arsenals against a poor and deprived Afghanistan purely as a revenge over terrorist act?

Any war against this people cannot be termed “a just war” even if we wish to do so.
Is it not reasonable to argue that it is a war imposed upon it by the haves over the haves not.

Security concerns should not outweigh the resolve to ensure justice and that justice must be seeing to be done. But in this case it is a rare commodity.

The war on terrorism is already lost before it is even begun.

For America to fight this war she needs a target sadly, Afghanistan has been chosen.

Quite frankly, I am very sceptical with our politicians and the evidence produced. I don’t trust the source, I don’t see the link with recent attack and I think it is plausible and grossly unjustifiable.
Beside, UN procedures have hardly been followed.

Still, we are not sure how long the war would last and when it would end.

Even if links have been established, is it credible and justifiable to wage war?

The evidences so far produced were short on specific, are these enough evidence for war or can they be termed circumstantial?

Lest America forgets, the attractive proposition to replace the ruling Taleban with Northern Alliance would soon prove fatal.

Everything said about Afghanistan thus far, is all one sided.

Wage war if you want to, but certainly not in our name.

I am still not convinced if the UN has authorised an attack against Afghanistan and the date line is rather swift and haste.

I wonder if an American citizen committed such attacks, many doubt if evidence presented would ever stand to get to court even if the accused is arrested, unless there is incontrovertible evidence.

It is almost three weeks since those dreadful events that shocked America and frightened the rest of the world; diplomacy seems to be gaining momentum in place of military action.

In civilised societies, extradition has been the norms and ordinary way of dealing with such issues, let us not assume that it is impossible when we don’t even try – let’s give diplomacy a chance!

It should be recalled that when we had the PAN’AM air disaster in the late 1990’s in Lockerbie near Scotland, in the aftermath, non-violence means were used to bring the accused o justice and the result was one was acquitted; the other still defending himself.

In the past, governments have negotiated with terrorists, what is wrong doing the same now?

The accused must be served with a warrant and they should be at liberty to know what crime they are accused of and must be given all due right to a defence.

The moral question is why not in this case?

Social justice should be accorded to all not just to the rich and powerful and hence the need for dialogue.

Democracy - The Nigerian Experience

Many events of historical importance have taken place and are in deed still taking
place since independence, for example:
1) Political and constitutional development prior to 1960
2) Elections - 1959, 1964, 1979, 1983, 1992, 1999 & 2003
3) The military interventions

Without reservation, democracy is the only way forward and it is the only means to touch

Is mercy below us?
Is responsibility within us?
