Recently, I moved into a new house near Allatoona lake here in Georgia. I've been here about a month now, and I'm pretty sure I'm sharing the place with an immaterial entity.

My roommate, Todd has heard footsteps coming up the wooden stairs leading from the garage when no one else is home. When he opens the door to see who is coming in, no one is there. Walking on these stairs is noisy, even in bare feet, so it would be difficult to stomp up them,then sneak away without being heard.

I was in the bathroom, brushing my teeth, when I was startled by the loud ringing of Todd's wind-up alarm clock. I went to shut it off,figuring that he had accidently left it set from earlier in the day, but it stopped abruptly before I got to it. When I checked it, the button on the back wasn't set, and the hand that shows the time the alarm is set for was pointing at 6:00, not 10:30. Usually, an alarm clock like this will ring fast and loud, then get slower as the spring winds out,instead of just stopping suddenly.

Our cat was showing a reluctance to stay inside the house unless someone was home and inside. We thought this was just a case of nervousness related to the move. Now he has run away.

I don't think that there's anything malignant in the house, at least I have no evidence for such an assumption, other than the missing cat.

2 June 97

I was in the basement a little while ago when our Iguana started hissing and jumped off his hot-rock. A second after this a box of comic books across the room fell over. Now, the Iguana doesn't like to move unless he sees food, or is startled. I was on the other side of the room, and he was looking away from me when he jumped. I may be stretching, but the timing of the incidents happened in the same way as if a person were looking at the lizard and startled it. In return, the hissing, jumping reptile startled the person, causing them to jump back and knock over the box.

9 September 97

More footsteps have been heard in the house when no one is where the noises are coming from. Todd came home this afternoon and entered through the garage. Before he could get up the stairs, he heard footsteps run across the kitchen upstairs and slam the back door. He's not sure if this was the ghost, or if someone had broken in, and he scared them, but nothing was stolen or tampered with.

18 January 98

Very early this morning (around 3:00), I heard a sound in the garage, like a plastic container fell and bounced around a few times. I figured something just fell over, but it kept making noise periodically, as if someone were knocking it around the room. I was awake when all this happened, as I had not been home from work long, and was watching television. My fear was that someone had broken in, so I got the shotgun (nothing like the sound of a pump action to deter criminals). When I went down to take a look I found no one there, but there was a plastic Gatoraid bottle in the middle of the floor. The doors and windows were locked tight, and I searched for anyone hiding, but didn't find anything. The night was calm, so I don't think it was wind either.

21 January 98

I was in the garage doing laundry when I heard something squeeking. I followed the noise to a corner behind some baskets where I found a frightened and very skinny cat which had apparently gotten stuck in the garage. I'm guessing that he was the one who knocked down the Gatoraid bottle a few nights ago. (Suppose not everything has a paranormal explaination!)

15 March 98

Not too much going on lately. I've heard the "footsteps" on and off. The latest trend is for this sort of "wave" of movement to go through the whole house. It starts with a popping noise at the kitchen end, then the floors will creak and other popping noises will work their way to the bedroom end of the house. This could be structural settling.

20 April 98

We're all in the process of moving out now, as our lease ends on the 1rst of May. Things have been VERY quiet lately, no footsteps or popping noises. Perhaps our ghost is sulking, or maybe it's just being smug. I've not found out anything that might be behind a haunting, as no one who has lived in the house has died yet (that I know of). This place was home to the Cherokee long ago, so perhaps it's one of them. I'm not sure I'll miss this noisy ghost or not. I'm moving into an apartment next, and will probably just have noisy neighbors.
