MY HEART BOX
If my life could fit
in a box, you’d see
stones and shells
from the deep blue sea,
snippets of baby hair
and dried Pampas Grass,
satin and bows,
an old hour glass,
peacock feathers,
letters of love,
poetry and prose,
a peaceful white dove,
puppy dog breath
and soft candle light,
Levi jeans
worn a little too tight,
happiness found
and dreams that were lost
(all came with a victory
yet all had a cost),
a gold chained cross
and fine French lace,
tiny pink rosebuds
and a potato sack race,
a doily to hide
all the bruises and scars,
a sprinkle of star dust
and chocolate nut bars,
baby shoes and photos
of all my dear friends,
love letters and thoughts
I neglected to send,
and right in the center
in silver and gold
an envelope with contents
neither bought nor sold,
stamped with the words
"my main answered prayers"
with pictures of loved ones
enclosed in there;
the faces reflecting
times that we had,
some not perfect
but all good and none bad.
It would be sealed with
an angel’s kiss,
because it contained
God’s heavenly bliss.
Those parts of my life
will always be
my most treasured gifts
God gave to me.
