KarMegus left the Phantom, and he and Cassidy sprinted toward a Spectre that was unattended, and drove toward the Ark. They managed to get through the battle and watch as the Drinol exited the Phantom. KarMegus knew they had been tortured and enraged, kept hidden in the Darkness, and now were able to vent their anger. They smashed vehicles, tossed soldiers around like toys, destroying anything in their path. KarMegus, although appaled at the destruction caused, had to appreciate the Drinol. As him and Cassidy drove to the Ark, a Drinol smashed a Spectre full of Elites that was speeding toward them. KarMegus turned and entered the Ark, just as 5 large ships crashed into the planet.

The new type of Flood exited the ships' remains. Infection Forms spread out everwhere, heading towards anything that moved. Chaos had returned to the dying battle. There was no fight for freedom or justice anymore. This was a fight for survival. And floating carelessly among the carnage were the Monitors of Installations 1-7. They had come to the Ark, but decided to observe the life forms figting for their lives before finishing their business. They were amused at the futile attempts at stopping the Flood. Laughing, they entered the Ark.

The battle had gone downhill, as more Flood arrived from the remains of the crashed ships, The other soldiers couldn't defend themselves. These Flood were bigger, and they targeted the Drinol. One by one, the massive beasts fell, and as Infection Forms did their work, Warriors gathered the bodies, and dragged them to the ships. But they seemed repelled from the Ark, no one was sure why. They were fighting a losing battle, and it would get worse as soon as the reanimated Drinol came into the fight. By now, the only way to survive was to run. Many people ran, but were picked off when they turned their backs.

The lieutenant's head perked up. "Sir, we're running out of reinforcements. We don't know what it is they Covenant want from there, but whatever it is, they want it bad." The General shook his head. "Bomb it,' he muttered. The lieutenant was shocked, "But sir, our men are down there. we can't kill them all." "We have to. Now bomb them." The lieutenant looked as if he had seen a ghost as he put in the order to bomb the battlefield roging below them.

Irk was strapped onto a chair, and while looking left and right, he could see the other squad members. All of them were unconcious. A high ranking offical came in with a grimaced face. Irk couldnt tell the actual ranking, it seemed different than the insignia he had seen before. The offical came up to Irk. "What is the situation going on out there?" Irk tried to decide wether or not to respond. However the look on the offical's face told him he was honest.
"Theres a war, every race is fighting over a mountian." Rehins responded.
The offical approached the, now awake, seargant. "Why the mountian?"
"Command says there is a religous signaficance to the coveanant, as well as the flood. The commanders just wanted to gain control of it, so if there was a bad enough purpose, it would be controlled. But so far, it looks like we are outnumbered." Rehins answered.
"Well, our technology is advanced enough, I will rally the city's forces to take the mountian." The offical stated. "It looks like we will come out of hiding now."
Irk looked at the two of them and saw something he was missing. Irk wasnt like them, there was a wearyness in the eyes that spartans never knew. And never would know, it was enough to make Irk no longer think of himself as human. In the eyes he also saw theier weakness. A certian weakness that would hamper them, even with the technology, it was something Irk was made for, and he fell back into sleep.

KarMegus entered the Ark, as a swarm of Sentinals exited. Cassidy came along, and they hid in a shadowed corner, unnoticed by the Monitors, who were huddled around the Console. KarMegus raised his Carbine, but Cassidy lowered it, putting his finger over his lips. The Monitors all ejected beams of light into the console, and that information seemed to be sent into a large Enforcer-type weapon, and it began to rise into the air. Cassidy began to run out of the Ark, followed by KarMegus. But they were spotted, and the Monitor began to fire at them.

Irk led his squad out of the city, and they faced the desert, and they were told they could have two warthogs and a tank in order to get up the mountian and hopefully secure a basecamp. Through the swath of the battle it should be easy to find theier way. Irk drove the tank, and the marines used the two warthogs, and they headed north from the city. Over the radio, Irk could hear mixed chatter, covenant, and some human forces were still in the area, if there had been more room, they would have picked some up, but they only had two spaces. Irk still didnt know where the eltie was.
After an hour, the battle was visible, and it seemed the flood had made a comeback, there was a large strech and the mountian was barely visible above the horizon.
"This is it, once we enter, theres no turning back." Rehins said over the radio.
"Crossing the rubicon, the point of no return. I hope 'veni vidi vici', in the famous words of Caeser." Uldaman uttered.
At that point, a wraith made its way next to them, the hatch opened. A white armored elite poked it's head out. "Where is everything gone to?" The elite asked.
Uldaman answered in one word, "Hell."

In the Iron Fury, as the lieutenant was sending in the order to bomb the battlefield, the Commander looked at the view screen in awe. "Wait, soldier. The tides are turning. The Covenant are getting pushed back. We might win this!" He exclaimed. "Don't bomb them! I repeat, do not bomb them!" The lieutenant sighed with relief, and cancelled the demand. He checked the view screen. Civilians were coming from the nearby towns, and began defending the mountain.

KarMegus and Cassidy escaped from the Ark, jumped into their Spectre, and drove through the battle. "Now that the Monitors have become that-that-thing, there's no one guarding the Ark. We can finish this. KarMegus nodded. They waited for the Super-Enforcer to leave the Ark, and they headed back. Just as the Drinol awakened from their slumber.

Irk was the first to see the giant machine, he ordered everyone to fire upon it. The squad was swerving this way and that, and the elite that had joined them was also firing upon it. The machine soon fired at the squad, but more human reinforcements came. In dropships, warthogs, and other vechiles. Even civillian cars were firing at it with people in all of the windows. Irk could see the weapons knocking it around, but there wasnt any real damage being done.
"Hang on soldiers, you have three longswords coming to your position from the Iron Fury!" The radio blared as three missiles trailed out of the sky toward the machine, pummling it into the ground, it was now immobilized.
Every human soldier there unleased all they could onto the machine, and it ended up an empty husk, no lights, no life.
Uldaman smiled.

They had entered the Ark, and walked up to the Main Computer. There was an opening in the front Cassidy assumed was for the Index. He was going to push it in, but as soon as it got within about an inch, the Index seemed to be sucked in. Cassidy was puzzled, but before he could figure out what had happened, 3 small, transparent forms appeared on small holo-panels on the computer. One Spoke up, in a voice that reminded Cassidy of the Monitors. "Hello. I am 3.50 Silent Atonement. The Flood has been released?"

Cassidy looked in awe at the 3 AI. They looked like Humans, but something strange he couldn't quite put his finger on. KarMegus noticed the resemblence as well. 3.50 seemed annoyed. "You have placed the Index in the Console in an attempt to activate the Ark. The Flood has been released then? Please answer me." Cassidy was too shocked to speak, so he nodded weakly. The AI understood. Silent Atonement Spoke again, introducing the other 2 AI. They were 539 Shameful Heresy, and 777 Sudden Redemption. "We will begin activation of the Ark now." Lights began flashing on the console, and the room began to vibrate. "Wait!" Cassidy shouted. "Is there any way to stop the Flood without activating the Halos?" Sudden Redemption hesitantly replied. "There might be. Our people were working on it, but ran out of time and had to abandon all hope." KarMegus interrupted. "Your people? You mean you are Forerunners?" "You could say that." said Shameful Heresy. "We are modeled after our people." Cassidy nodded. "What is the alternative?" Silent Atonement "pointed" to a container in the corner of the room. KarMegus opened it, and took out a gun reminiscent to a Plasma Pistol. "You are to shoot the Gravemind with that, and the Flood should die out." KarMegus nodded. They would be leaving Earth again.

Gerrick exited the phantom settled at the top of the mountian, and he was greeted by what was left of Sanchez. The only part of the body still human was the head, he was becoming dissolved of all that was human. Gerrick once again approached Sanchez fearlessly. "You dont look all that good."
"Aye, I am becoming less and less human. I had seen the error of my ways, I was not supposed to lead the flood, so I poisioned the gravemind, and came back here, to defend the ark against everything other than humans, but I have failed, it appears that a brute once my friend has entered, I fear there is no escaping the end." Sanchez finished grimly.
"I have brought friends that can be trusted, they are elites, but they do not harm humans," Gerrick told him, as three elites exited the craft, with Zarvha leading them.
Sanchez gave a large twitch, then halted. He nodded. "Why did you request me?"
"We need your help to topple an empire of your enemys." Gerrick told him.
"And what enemys are that?" Sanchez asked.
"The final Gravemind."

Barely escaping this time, KarMegus and Cassidy headed towards the Phantom. They headed towards the Ascendant Justice, boarded, entered Slip-Space heading toward the Halo. On the way there, KarMegus inspected the Forerunner Pistol. He was called into the Holy Chambers by Truth, where he was asked why he didn't activate the Ark. KarMegus' mind went blank. He had forgotten about Truth and the Great Journey. Truth looked at him, a scowl on his face. Pity cried "Heresy!" And KarMegus was captured before he could move. Truth had a malicious smile on his face now. "Lock him up, and see to it his Human friend is killed. And change course back to Earth. I am going to finish what we started so long ago."
