OOC: Now the universal war has taken flight, and the sides were chosen. This is an RP between me and Bipedalcow.

Gerrick followed Zarvha back to a deserted phantom. The plan was to find the remaining factions of elites and bring them all back to Earth to support the battle. First stop would be Delta Halo.
Before they could do that however, they still needed to find a ship that was able to complete a slip space jump. In orbit over the planet there were a lot of ships, but none of them seemed to care about the Phantom.

421 went to the Master Computer. He made a signal and sent it to every Halo. Reinforcements will be coming soon.
_______________________________

Truth, Disdain, and Pity exited the Phantom in front of the Ark. They did not see Cassidy there, for they were in too much of a hurry to notice. As soon as they entered, however, they were surrounded by Sentinals. The Honor Guards fired at them, but were quickly eliminated. Only the Prophets remained. "So, you are the leaders of the Meddlers?" chimed 421. "Well, you are far too valuable to kill, so I'll just let you watch." Sentinals backed the prophets into the wall. They were surrounded. There was nothing they could do.
________________________________________

Cassidy fired again, a perfect headshot on a Brute. He didn't know who to kill and who not to kill. And the battle was total chaos. Reinforcements arrived all the time. Medics were shot down. Debris rained down from the overhead Space Battle, crushing those unlucky enough to be under them.

Zarvha and Gerrick spotted a friendly elite ship dropping the last of its troops onto the planet. The commander of the ship, who’s name was Hulamae, confronted him. This elite was taller than the average one, and the armor was a polished black. "My ship is ready for a jump whenever you call for it."

Zarvha said he recognized Hulamae from a counter attack on a brute controlled base a short time ago. Gerrick was still contemplating why Zarvha needed him in the first place.
________________

While Gerrick was looking over some things in his computer, Zarvha conversed quietly with Hulamae.

"I did not expect to see you so soon, and especially not with your own ship." Zarvha addressed him.

"The same here, without the ship comment of course," Hulamae responded. "However, we have lost all of our combat ready troops and we need more, it would do the cause well to gather more."

"That was my plan, and without this human, I do not see how." Zarvha suddenly shot a glance over at Gerrick who was fiercely typing away at the keyboard. "I do not want him to know this. I have found out he has some blood in him that isn’t human. It is of a different strand. I could see it in his wounds. Instead of the dark red, common to the species, it was a light brown. I’m sure of it, and can you not smell the difference?"

Hulamae took in a deep breath, "Yes, he does not smell typical. Then again, no human smells typical, some smell worse than the flood, others better. You can not base assumptions on smell warrior."

Zarvha persisted, "He is still a viable function, I can showcase him to get support, he may be a sign from the gods."

"You still believe? My faith has been gone for a long time." Hulamae grunted, "But others haven’t, we shall use him, and create a larger army. Jihads have always been recorded as having more success than conventional wars."

Gerrick was now looking through the subroutines, he was backing up any data that was vital, he still didn’t know why he was here, but he knew it had to be something about him.

SLAM! KarMegus splattered a Flood Warrior. The rotting corpse flew into the air before landing in his lap. With a cry of disgust, he knocked the putrid body off of him, splattering an Elite in the process. A Sniper round whizzed by his head, barely missing him, and into the face of an Elite who had just attempted to board the Ghost. KarMegus laughed. He had forgotten that battle could be so fun.
____________________

Cassidy reloaded his Sniper. He had seen KarMegus riding a Ghost, and decided to help him out. A Grunt primed a Plasma Grenade, but Cassidy shot its face before it could. The explosion ended up killing several surrounding Grunts, and an Elite. Cassidy smiled. He was tired, and went back towards the Ark. He was stunned to see 3 Prophets cornered by at least 10 Sentinals. He was quickly surrounded as well. "Forgive me, Reclaimer. But this is for your own good. Drop you weapon, please, and join the Meddlers." Cassidy did as he was told.

Several of the elites on the ship were dumbfounded by Gerrick's presence. So was Gerrick actually, even more so than the elites. Zarvha had kept quiet for the most part, and the ship captain had come into the room that Gerrick slept in several times, while he thought Gerrick was asleep, then the captain would lay some stuff the elites called food. It was still edible though, and Gerrick happily nourished himself.

After what seemed to be two days, the ship exited the hyper speed and stopped at a large ring shaped object, that the Elites called Halo.

KarMegus was feeling the withdrawals of extended battle: extreme fatigue. He knew soon his luck would run out and he'd be killed, and since his main objective was to survive, he headed back to the Ark, still killing everything in his path. But when he arrived there, he saw a disturbing scene. Truth, Pity, Disdain, and Cassidy were surrounded by Sentinals. "Please Meddler, drop your weapon and join them." Truth had a look of horror on his face. "No, help us! It's your duty, now fulfill it! I command you!" "Shut up!" yelled 421, as a Sentinal burned Truth. KarMegus heard a pitiful cry of pain escape the Prophets lips. Truth looked desperate. KarMegus raised his Brute Shot, and shot at every Sentinal, feeling the now familiar burning sensation. But he continued shooting, and soon, the only things left were KarMegus, the Prophets, Cassidy, 421, and the broken remains of the Sentinals. For good measure, KarMegus fired a round at 421, although he knew the complex AI felt nothing. "Stop right this instant!" 421 ordered, but they just walked out. Truth cleared his throat, obviously regretting the scene in the Ark. He was for once not calm, and didn't like the image it gave him. "You will be rewarded greatly for your actions..." "KarMegus. This is Cassidy." Truth looked with a look of extreme disgust at Cassidy. "A Human? KarMegus, what is wrong with you?" Cassidy interrupted before KarMegus could reply. "We have a plan. Now shut up, or you won't live to see the end of this war." Truth looked startled, but was quiet. KarMegus told Truth to signal for a Phantom. One dropped down, and brought them up to the Ascendant Justice. They began a slip-space rupture, heading towards one of the remaining Halos. A Human Ship, The Titan, noticed and began to attack the ship. Cassidy went to the Com. Link located at the front of the ship. "Sirs, this is Corporal Cassidy, ID number 243116765. Please hold your fire. I repeat, hold your fire."
_____________________________________________________

The crew members aboard The Titan were confused. Cassidy was a well respected soldier. Why was he riding with Covenant scum? Private Harold Lumburg contacted General McKay, the leader of Earth's defenses, and told him the situation. There was silence from McKay's side for a moment, until Lumburg heard the words he was afraid he would hear. "Blow the traitorous bastard to Hell, Private." "Roger, Sir." Lumburg directed his attention to the rest of the crew. "Orders are to blow the ship to Hell." "Roger that, Private." said the main weapons specialist, Jon Bush. "All Archer Pods focused on that Forerunner Ship."

Cassidy couldn't believe it. "Bastards! They're targeting us!" KarMegus was getting very anxious. "Hurry it up. We need to get to those coordinates." The Nav Brutes typed as fast as they could, knowing that the survival of everyone on the ship, which included 3 Prophets, rested in their hands. They began to enter slip-space, just as The Titan fired the Archer Pods. It was so close, the Pods entered slip-space as well, and continued the path that was set, just in slip-space. KarMegus gave a sigh of relief. "Onto the Halo." he muttered.

Gerrick followed Zarvha onto a phantom onto the planet. He was given a plasma pistol, yet he still kept his other pistol close-by. The planet was nearly empty, quiet serene grasslands, forests dotting every now and then, and the planet-form extending into the sky. However, once they were deeper into the planet's terrain, there were dead bodies nearly everywhere. The stench was nearly unbearable, and Gerrick had to cover his nose with a cloth. It wasn’t long, before the elites met a brute squad.

They were returning to the Halo closest to Earth, and KarMegus was afraid the Flood had awakened. He told Cassidy that they weren't going to leave the Phantom until they arrived at the Library. They entered the atmosphere, so KarMegus and Cassidy and the Brutes that were going to pilot it entered the Phantom. There were almost no Sentinals, and only one Enforcer. The Phantom's Plasma Turrets took care of it though, which left the path to the Library clear. There also seemed to be a lack of Flood, which was also very good news. But when they arrived at the Library, they saw the largest group of Flood they had ever seen. And these Flood looked different, they were larger than the normal Flood Warrior, and appeared to be a lot stronger. KarMegus had a feeling these Flood were guarding something, something very important.

Gerrick had been kept out of the fray for the most part, and when he was out of the fray, he noticed another marine on the ground, who was near death. Gerrick came over, and tried to comfort him, while the man was bandaged up. Gerrick thought he would ask a question, "What’s your name?"

"Private Richard Andrews," Richard coughed up some blood before continuing, "I think its safe now, the flood are losing something...."

"What are they losing?" Gerrick asked.

"They lost the little infection forms... Now they stack up the remains of dead bodies to add onto themselves," Richard took a deep breath, "The buggers even seem a little misguided now, as though the leader of ‘em vanished."

Gerrick finished as well as he could. "Well, it seems there’s an advantage now. Now the brutes are the enemies."

Richard frowned, "The elites too, they used most of my squad for food, it was elites who did this to, me."

Gerrick was stuck in shock, maybe he should try to find a way to escape, maybe he should, but how? The only way off was with the elites. Now he was in a problem, maybe it was just the ones on the halo, the ones who didn’t hear about the uprising. Or maybe not. "I’m sure it was just a rogue group, the ones I’m with are friendly."

Richard stared out at him with scared eyes. "You are just being used. Get away from them! They will use you up good!" Richard pulled the pistol from Gerrick's belt, and pointed it at Gerrick, "YOU GET AWAY FROM ME!!!"

Gerrick slowly backed off, he had better-
Richard fired, and Gerrick turned around, a brute fell with a round in its head. Then Richard aimed it again, then lowered it, "I don’t know what to do, everything is a blur, all my friends are gone, I don’t know any other humans. What point is there." Richard pointed the gun at his head, and pulled the trigger.

Cassidy thought as hard as he could. They needed a plan. KarMegus interrupted his thoughts. "We're going to fly the Phantom as low as we can, and smash these filthy beasts." Cassidy knew it was risky, but he knew they needed to get through, and that seemed the only way to do it. "Ok, i guess it might work." Cassidy said hesitantly.

Gerrick reluctantly told the elites about the incident, and they sympathized, telling him he had nothing to fear, but Gerrick still kept an eye out. He wasn’t sure the past enemy of mankind could be trusted. In another day, there were more casualties than victories, and the elites decided to pull back to a safer position. Gerrick finally found some rest, safe, and closed his eyes.

They backed the Phantom up about 100 yards so it could get speed, then accelerated as fast as they could. Slowly the Nav Brutes began to tilt it forward, until it was almost touching the ground. KarMegus hoped there weren't any large rocks in the way, even a small pebble could be the difference between life and death. As the neared the Flood's position, KarMegus heard a sickening howl. He winced, imagining what could've caused something like that. He did not favor the thought, and tried to focus on the matter at hand. KarMegus felt a series of thumps, as the Phantom slightly decelerated after every impact with the Flood. Another howl. KarMegus saw Cassidy's expression was extremely calm. He wondered how Cassidy could be calm in a situation like this. On further inspection, though, KarMegus saw Cassidy grinding his teeth. He couldn't help but laugh. The thumping stopped, and KarMegus let out a relieved sigh. They had survived. One of the Nav Brutes contacted the Ascendant Justice on the Com Link, and told Truth they had succeeded, and were about to enter the Library.

"A Spartan? We are some lucky Bastards or are we some lucky Bastards?" The commander said with a grin. "Excuse my misdemeanor, I’m Sergeant Bradley Rehins, I’m the leader of this rag tag squad!"

"Private Jack Nerson, at your service." Another marine one said.

"I’m Private Harvey Uldaman," a young, and quite exhausted looking marine said.

"He is? Well, then, looks like we have a new leader sarge, by the way the handle's Corporal Niel Ryerson," The most awake one said.

Rehins gave a sigh, and proceeded. "We need to get out of this mess and find a radio, you look like my prayers have been answered." Rehins laughed, "You look like an angel, with the stuff we have been through."

Irk looked them over, "I may agree by the way you look." Jack Nerson had a bandaged leg, and his helmet was scorched, Niel Ryerson's armor was horribly marked with blast wounds, and Uldaman looked worst of all, his eyes looked up imploringly at Irk, and his hands were bandaged up, and still had dried blood. Rehins looked gleeful, but Irk could see underneath it, he had a hopeless look about him. "What’s the objective here?"

"Well, we need to find a radio to find that one out, but we don’t know where a radio is, we have been camping out here. It doesn’t seem the battle over there will ever end. There’s always reinforcements coming in from the two masses of covenant, but I think the UNSC pulled out some time ago. Even those flood bastards are getting wiped out. There aint nothing pretty about that place." Rehins replied.

The Phantom had gotten as far as it could into the Library before KarMegus and Cassidy had to exit. As they exited, Cassidy checked the clip for his Battle Rifle, making sure it was fully loaded. What they had done with the Phantom had given him quite a shock, and he was still a little queasy. But he shook it off, and headed toward the Library. There was no Flood anywhere. They continued forward, through open doors. It was eerily quiet, and Cassidy couldn't stand it. He kept expecting Flood to jump out at every corner. They finally made it to where KarMegus said the Index should be. It was a large room, with a blue beam running from the ceiling into the floor. Cassidy looked at the beam. There was a computer in front of it. KarMegus approached it.

--------Odyssey Activate------------------------

Odyssey- Hello. Who is this.

KarMegus- This is KarMegus. Did you automatically activate?

421- No, you didn't, Odyssey. I activated you. Do not let them retrieve the Index.

Odyssey- The Index? It was stolen by the Flood some time ago, unfortunately. I suggest you activate the Sentinals and go get it. Oh, what's this? The Sentinals have all been destroyed? Impossible, that cannot be, it's

KarMegus- When did the Flood take the Index?

Odyssey- Not very long ago. You should go-

421- Do not let them retrieve the Index, Odyssey.

Odyssey- But I must. Protocol states that

421- The Ark must be activated, but if they get the Index, I won't be able to activate it.

Odyssey- Please, do not interrupt me again. It is quite rude and

421- Odyssey, do not

Odyssey- That is it!

-------------------Odyssey Deactivated-----------------

KarMegus walked away from the monitor. Apparently, there is a bit of tension between those AIs. "What was that all about?" Cassidy asked. "I am not sure." KarMegus replied. They continued again, looking all over the large room. They found a tunnel that led down underground. They didn't know what to do but follow it, so that's what they did. The deeper they got down, the worse it smelled. They reached the end of the tunnel and saw the worst thing they could have expected to see.

Gerrick woke up in exactly the place he didn’t want to. In the grasp of a large tentacle. It smelled rotten, and reeked of death. The creature must have heard him awake because it pulled him up, right in front of the creature's face. It spoke in a strange voice, that sounded like it was composed of many.
"I am the Gravemind."

Gerrick struggled, as he realized the Gravemind was the leader of the flood, but the stench and the grasp kept him unable to break out. The only thing Gerrick could ask was one thing only, "Why am I here?"

The Gravemind grunted and then answered, "You are of unnatural blood of any creature, and you will do a fine absorption into the mass, you might be the only thing that can save me..." The Gravemind was sounding weaker. However, he was frightened by this, and he was propelled to struggle even more. This time he broke free and fell awhile, before being caught by another tentacle. It pulled him up once again, "You can not escape, once you die, I will take your body, but I must not kill you, but I will starve you. Just as the covenant tried before."

"I wont let you take me, if I cant die of anything but that, then I will kill myself, rather than living a slow and painful death." Gerrick struggled once more and brought a hand to his neck, but the Gravemind pulled the hand away.

"There is no escape, you are doomed," and with that final statement, the Gravemind died.
