This time's To Do: MAKE DINNER
For most of you, you're only responsiblity with dinner is cleaning your plate. Give mom and dad a break and make dinner for your family. Not only will they brag about you to their friends, you might get out of some regular chores because of it.
1. Find a recipe. Asking a relative or neighbor for a recipe is a good idea, because you can call them and ask them for help if you run into trouble. You can still use a recipe from a cookbook or websites (like www.food.com) if you think you can do it.
2. Don't forget side dishes. Usually, you need to serve more than just your main dish. If you're serving a one dish meal (like stir fry or stew) you usually don't need much more than bread. Vegetables (like a salad or frozen veggies) and bread (like rolls or garlic bread) make great sides.
3. Get cooking! Make sure you have all the ingredients before you start, and follow the exactly. Be careful when using the stove (if you're young, you might want to ask for recipe some help). Use pot holders or oven mitts when handling hot pans. Be sure to continually check anything you have cooking.
4. Set the table. Now that you have a great meal cooked, you'll want a lovely table to match. If you have them, use bright colored dishes. If you can make sure the silverware, glasses, and plates all match each other. Remember- cup on the top right, fork on the left, knife and spoon on the right, with the knife closet to the plate.
5. Set out the food. Put the food on the table or a nearby counter in dishes, with serving spoons or forks. Let your family help themselves.
Good Luck and Enjoy! |
