If you think you have nothing to make a stuffed animal out of, you're wrong!
A) Choose some cloth for the outide of the stuffed animal: grab a sock, snip off a shirt sleeve, cut up a baseball cap, thick ribbon, a sheet, a blanket, a quilt, or some pretty fabric.
B) Collect something to stuff your animal with: cotton balls, tissue paper, newspaper, beans, beads, feathers, pebbles, bits of cloth, sand, etc.
C) Cut the cloth into the shape of your animal.
D) Do a running stitch: Weave your threaded needle in and out of the fabric to close up holes or slits. Make sure to leave an opening in the top so you can fill it up.
E) Stuff it: Fill your animal with the stuffing material.
F) Detail it: Finish the look. Stitch features on, sew beads on, draw curly fur or facial features, tie a ribbon on, make a yarn tail, felt parts (i.e. a felt mouth or felt ears), make a flower crown for tour animal, draw on designs (i.e. stripes, spots, zigzags...), polish its "nails" (dot nail polish or poster paint on the edges of paws).
G) Clothe it if you choose: tie a ribbon around the neck or tail, make a small felt jacket, teeny hat, boxers, swimsuit (make out of old too-small swimuit or shirt for a neat touch, or use felt).
H) Name it: you can even embroider or write its name on it. |
