| THE CHERRY HEAD CONURE |
 |
| Red-masked Conure |
Cherryhead conures are a rich green color with heads that are a true red.
They also have red feathers under their wings. The babies are just green
birds until they are about 6 months old and then they start to get their
bright red coloring on the head. This transformation coninues for about 2
years. With each molt the colors become more vibrant and distinct. While not
a cuddly bird, the cherryheads are very playful. They love to play with toys
that they can chase.....like balls, and bells are particularly attractive to
them. Cherryheads can be voracious chewers so it is advisable to offer them
wooden toys that they are able to chew on ( and destroy). Cherryheads can be
noisy at times and sound something like a goose honking when they squawk.
They are also very good talkers.
