"Survivor" Party:
Outwit - Outlast - Outplay - OUTPARTY!
Okay. It's the latest craze. So you have no choice but to invite your friends over for a SURVIVOR soiree! Think of it as having your own little island--in your own backyard. Gilligan would be proud (although he admits he wouldn't have lasted a day).
When - You can do it on the night of the show (Wednesday) or on a weekend. I suggest the weekend, because if you stop the party to watch the show, you'll lose your momentum (BORING!). Incorporate the actual show into the evening by having people choose which islander they think is going to win, the order in which they will be voted off, etc., and invite them over to watch the last SURVIVOR show. After the show airs, give prizes to those who chose correctly, and then show the video that you made of your party (guaranteed for laughs).
Where - Your house or at a local park so you're as close to nature as you can be.
How - Well...here's a step-by-step plan.
party411.papermania.com
The Invitation
It's a clever show, and an even cleverer (is that a word?) party--so an incredibly clever invitation is in order. Invite your guests to your "island" to tape the ONLY episode. Make sure to give your island a name. (Pick someplace exotic.) Tell them what to wear (island clothing, rubber-soled shoes--allow only two items extra), what to bring (water and bug spray sound good-have you seen those Survivors' legs?!--allow only three items), where to go and when to arrive.
On your RSVP, make sure you ask them if they want to participate or spectate (this is very important!). When your RSVPs arrive, divide them into three piles: Tribe 1, Tribe 2 and the Production Group (these are your spectators a.k.a. the party poopers--they can do the video).
You may want to divide teams by men and women--or not. It's up to you how you pick and choose. Make the assignments before the event (you don't want anyone to feel left out like they did in elementary school when choosing sides for softball, now do you?).
The Party
Well, if you are truly doing a SURVIVOR party, then you need a plan that will SURVIVE even the biggest critics. Let's see...
As guests arrive, welcome them to your "island" (maybe a lei or two) and assign them to their tribes. Some suggestions for tribal names are: Snake, Rattle and Rollers, Boogie Bugs, Lounge Lizards, Shell Shockers. Alright, maybe they're not all that creative, but they work. You may want to provide color armbands or t-shirts (like they do in color wars) so everyone knows who's on which side! Lest they conspire with the wrong tribe...
Once everyone is settled, it's time to get on with the immunity challenges. Obviously, you are not really on a deserted island, so you'll have to be a little more inventive than those guys at CBS (plus I think your budget is a tad less). Unless you never want to see your friends again, I suggest staying away from things like bug eating competitions and such (unless you use gummy bugs, or rats!--now that's okay and the only side effects are a sugar high).
Whichever team wins each challenge should get points. Forcing the other team to vote someone off (out of the tribe) would probably be a touch insensitive seeing as how these are your friends and by, say, 9 p.m. you could be partying with one or two people. How much fun is that?
The team with the most points wins! Enough said.
The Immunity Challenges:
A gummy bug-eating competition. He who eats the most, wins. Gummy bears are a big favorite of mine, but don't go with the theme. Try gummy spiders and beetles and stuff like that.
A rat hunt. Candy stores also have gummy rats (I kid you not). Hide some of those suckers in different places on your "island."
A treasure chest relay (they have to carry a treasure chest filled with rocks, back and forth, handing it off to different team members until they are done).
Menu
Set up a luau of sorts. We have loads of luau suggestions on the site--so go for it. Roast a pig. Make it a wild pig (after all, you can pretend you caught it right there).
Serve your drinks in a SURVIVOR shot glass (only $5 on the Survivor website--and a great souvenir--plus it's the least expensive).
Decorations
You won't need much, but being who I am, the Party Girl, I would go all out. At your walk, you'll need a welcome sign to your island. As people walk to your front door, have some fun with signs like those you see entering a township:
[Island Name] KIWANIS (meets Wednesdays)
[Island Name] TRIBAL COUNCIL (meets tonight)
[Island Name] LION'S CLUB (never meets)
Put your registration area inside the front door. Have signs posted: we do not practice island politics; you are now entering island society--be gracious; etc.
See the Party411 Luau party for more great ideas and products to set the tropical tone of your bash.
Dinner and Dancing
After all is said and done challenge-wise, invite your friends to dine and dance. Make a great campfire. Do the limbo. Depending on your budget, you may want to reward the winning team with SURVIVOR t-shirts or hats ($17-18 each).
Sit down and watch the video. That should be fun. As a thank you for coming, send each friend a copy so that they remember what a great time they had on your island (or if you don't like them, charge $10 each--CBS makes money, why shouldn't you?).
Favors and Prizes
Send your guests home with their own Survivor Survival Kit. Personalized bags, insulated bottles, terry beach towel, MAG lite, candy and more.

Survivor Games
Torch Challenge - Instead of using torches though, try big votive candles or luminaries in a dual row. Place them several yards away so that team members have to run to the start. Then place a tall scarecrow-like structure back at the starting point. Both teams would go out to the end and start lighting them in a row, heading back. Once they reached the starting point they would dress the scarecrow. (On the show, they had to put out the burning scarecrow, but we do not recommend that for your game.) First team to get everything finished, wins.
Skin the Fish - Find chocolates in the shape of fish that come wrapped in colorful foil (they can be found in some candy stores or specialty chocolate stores). Split everyone up into teams and have a race to see who can "skin" (peel off the foil layer) and eat the most fish in 5 minutes.
Build a Shelter - Like the people on the island, your challenge is to build some kind of shelter using only the materials in nature. If there aren't a lot of materials to work with at the campground have a race to see which team can be the first to build a sturdy animal shelter. Make sure to make dimension requirements (ex: bigger than a basketball, smaller than a bicycle) as well as sturdiness requirements (must stay standing for at least 10 minutes).
Race for the Rainbow - Give each team a plastic bag as well as a piece of paper containing a written list of all of the colors of the rainbow (Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet). Each team has to find at least one object in nature (or anything outside) that matches each color of the rainbow. For example: A red apple, orange leaf, yellow weed (dandelion), etc. For each object they find they have to place it in their plastic bags. The first team to find objects that match each color of the rainbow is the winner. (Each item found can only count for one color.)
Stumps - This is a challenge that pits 2 players against each other (best if comparable size). The object of this game is to get your opponent to step off his or her stump. To begin, set up two stumps (4 to 10 inches tall) or upside-down milk crates about 6 to 12 feet apart. Lay a 30-foot length of rope between the platforms, leaving the surplus rope coiled at both ends. The players, standing on the platforms, pull or relax the rope, trying to get the other to lose his or her balance and step off. Might is not always right here, as a hard tug can be neutralized by a loosened grip-and the sudden slack can make the tugger teeter. Make sure to play this on a soft surface in case someone takes a tumble. To add a bit of risk to the game, build a few gooey mud pits around the stumps.
Hula Hoop Relay - For this race, you'll need even numbered teams and a hula hoop for each team. Begin by creating a course-a straight line to a goal (a chair or trash can, for instance) and back, or create a slalom-type trail around obstacles. When the race begins, the first player from each team rolls the team's hoop (using his hand or a stick) along the entire course before returning to the starting line and passing the hoop to the next player. The race continues until all of the players on one team complete the course.
Who's the Leader? - The object of this game is to find out who is the leader of the group. One player, the guesser, goes around the corner of the house while the remaining players sit in a circle and select a leader (quietly). The leader then initiates a series of motions-hand movements, claps, foot stomps and so on-which the other players copy. The guesser is then called back to watch the group. The leader must change the movements every 5 to 20 seconds. The followers try not to give away the leader with their eyes. The guesser gets three tries to identify the right person.
Catch the Flies - This is a game that everyone can play together, and there is only one winner. The object of this game (which can be played either in the pool or on land) is for the "spider" (the person who is "it") to try and tag the passing "flies" (everyone who has not yet been caught). When the spider catches the flies they become part of the web. The flies still buzzing around must try to avoid the web as well as the spider. Set up an area with boundaries (if the boundaries are crossed then the fly who crossed them automatically becomes part of the web). The flies line up at one end and the spider stands in the middle and cries out, "I am the spider, of this web I am king. Try to get past me and feel my sting." The flies try to float/run across the web as the spider tries to tag them. If tagged, they become part of the web. Keeping one foot planted, everyone who is part of the web tries to reach out and tag the flies running by, turning those players into the web as well. Once the flies reach the other side, the spider and flies say the chant and everything is repeated all over again. The game ends when all of the flies become part of the web. The last fly tagged becomes the new spider.
Water War Without Guns - Use everything from giant sponges and spray bottles to turkey basters, cups, water balloons, and a garden hose to soak the members of the opposing "team". The team to cry "uncle" first is the loser.
Target Challenge - Use white spray paint (make sure it washes out with water) and draw a very large bullseye with 6-7 concentric circles on the grass. Give each ring a point value. Have the teams stand about 40-50 feet away from the target and let each team take a turn trying to throw a tennis ball at the target. Add up the points as each team member throws the ball, and the team with the most points wins the game.
Scavenger Hunt - This is a game that is usually relatively inexpensive and time-consuming (good for both kids and adults). Give both teams clues that take them from place to place. Perhaps this game could begin at the camp ground, and the final clue could lead to that evening's dinner (make sure to cover the food well (leave it in a cooler) so that animals can't get to it). The team that arrives at their dinner first gets dessert as well!
Dress-up Relay - Make 2 piles of the same type of clothing. Divide the group into teams and have the first players race to dress up in all the clothes from one pile. When finished, he/she must take all the clothes off and have the next player dress up. The team that dresses and undresses first wins the game.
Lay an Egg - Divide the teams up into pairs. In each pair, the partners stand with their backs to each other. Placing a raw egg between their backs, the object of the game is to lay the egg on the floor without breaking it. The team with the most "couples" to successfully place the egg on the ground without so much as a crack in it is the winner.
Belly Burst - Everyone must divide into random pairs (Just as in the "Lay an Egg" game). Each couple has to hold a balloon between their stomachs. The couple who is able to burst the balloon first using only their stomachs is the winner.

Game Girl I am going to have a big Slumber party and I want it to be great. I would like you to send me some games and tips for a teen party at my email I think you already have if you dont have it it is heeler@gate.net >
The Game Girl says:
Try some of these: If you are having a video, make up a Trivia contest for after the movie and see who can remember the most. Here are some new ones to try: Grabbit: Set some small prizes on a table, such as a box of chocolates, a single CD, a paperback romance, a deck of cards, a blank book, and so on, enough for each player. Let each player name a favorite card game, such as rummy, fish, spoons, war, hearts, etc. Gather the players around the game table and remove all but one prize, setting the others aside. Play your favorite card game and let the winner keep the gift on the table. Replace the prize with each new game. Pop star Trivia: find out lots of interesting details about some popular teen stars using teen magazines. Write down questions using the information, then have a trivia quiz to see who knows the most about each star! Panic Word: Write down 100 single words on index cards, such as blink, stairs, death, lint, computer, any words you like. Stack the cards and place them in the center of the room. Divide the players into two teams and seat them opposite each other. Set the timer or stopwatch for 1 minute when it's time to start the game. Have Player 1 from Team 1 draw a card from the pile and give clues to the word to her teammates before the timer ends the play. If the word is "blink" she might say "What you do if dust gets in your eyes." Players from Team 1 try to guess the word, and if they are successful before the time is up, they get a point. If the timer runs out and the word is not guessed, the other team gets a point. Take turns until all the cards are gone, then add up points to see who wins. Have a Makeover Party! Send unique invitations made from clear plastic make-up bags, with the party details written on the outside in permanent felt- tip pen. Fill the bag with make-up goodies and mail to guests. Ask them to bring the make-up bag to the party, then do makeovers on one an |
