People seem to think that Rats can and will eat anything. Well, they have the "will" part right.
Your Rat will live 2 to 4 years, so you will want to keep your Rat healthy and eating the right kinds of foods to ensure that. Never replace every day water in bottles for juice. Water is a must, juice is a treat.
Here is a list of foods that your Rat can eat and stay healthy with:
1.Small Animal Mix
2.Curly Noodle (to keep their teeth shaven down)
3.Granola
4.Dried Fruit
5.Dry Veggies
6.Soft fruit (once a week)
7.Soft veggies (once a week)
8.Jerky (once a month)
9.Cheese (once every 2 weeks)
10.Fruit Juice (once every week or two as a treat)
11.Applesause (once every 2 weeks)
12.Vegitarian Puppy Kibble
If I accidently run out of Rat food I give my Rat some of my Dog's kibble. This is okay ONCE IN A WHILE, but the kibble is full of fats that your Rats do not need and should not have.
Also, Rats do get bored with the same kinds of foods every single day, so try to be creative with their diet. DO NOT feed your Rats sugars and chocolates as treats. This is bad for them. The only time sugary foods should be used is if you are giving your Rat medication such as pills or liquid. You can mix liquid medication with sugar-water, but fruit-juice works fine, and you can hide a pill in a piece of chocolate or soft candy. |
