| Final Fantasy X: Release date |
After being delayed from March to July, Square has officially stated that their very first next-gen Final Fantasy game will ship on the 19th of July (7/19/01) in Japan. BUT! The game will ship in two different packages, one of them is a standard package of Final Fantasy X that includes the game in its DVD-Rom based form. The second will be a special edition of Final Fantasy X, that will be released on two CDs. This special edition will also be a limited edition that will include higher quality FMVs among a list of other yet to be announced features. The original copy of FFX will sell for 8,800 yen ($60), the special edition will ship for 10,800 ($71).
More so, Square added that they will be releasing Final Fantasy XI (Online) only on Windows and Playstation 2. So it is uncertain whether or not XBox will get it, but seeing as how Square stated they have no intention on developing for the XBox, I am led to believe that a PC version of FFXI will ship not a XBox version. Be aware that the PS2 will be the first system to get the Online Final Fantasy game, and we all should have our PS2 hard-drives and broadband adapters by that time so there's no need to worry.
In related news, Square also plans on shipping over 3 million copies of Final Fantasy X in Japan alone, and nearly 6 million worldwide. Seeing as how there will be over 14 million PS2 owners in July, and 20 million by November (US and European date of FFX), Square's numbers are quite accurate if not underestimated. We will try to bring you an import review of Final Fantasy X as soon as we get our hands on it. Currently over 31 million Final Fantasy games have been sold.
