Squaresoft has recently stated that Final Fantasy X, the company's upcoming blockbuster RPG and first Final Fantasy title on Sony's PlayStation 2, will be delayed in Japan. The title, which was previously scheduled to hit retailers in March, is now slated for a July release (although even this has been deemed optimistic by industry experts). In a refreshing statement, however, Square cited quality as the reason for the delay, saying that the company is vehemently trying to further the tradition of greatness in the Final Fantasy series with its first 128-bit incarnation. Squaresoft currently has a sales goal of 2.5 million copies sold for Final Fantasy X.
