My Heart - His Hand
by Lynn H . . . R . . . - 1998

I know not what's around the bend,
or what's across the way,
I know not what tomorrow holds,
though be it come what may.

Though I long to live till very old,
and walk with easy stride,
I hope to stroll through forest deep,
with a close friend at my side.

I long to stand on a sandy beach,
and gaze out at a rumbling sea,
And place my hand inside of his,
though wrinkled it may be.

Will he love me when I am aged?
Will he know me when I'm old?
Will my darkening vision still know his face,
that my heart aspired to hold?

And should our paths grow far apart,
Unwittingly he shall stand,
as I quietly leave this world in peace,
with my heart still in his hand.
