GOKU
Goku is a very kind and protective person. He is also the most powerful warrior on Earth and the first to become a Super Saiyan in over 1000 years. Having honed his skills and strengthened his spirit to a level never achieved by any being on Earth, Goku is able to fly, shoot energy beams from his hands, move at incredible speeds and, when in a pinch, power-up to a fighting level so high it creates an energy aura around his body and makes him turn blond with green eyes... becoming in effect a walking nuclear war. Goku hasn't learned these skills just for fun, his life is forced down this path as he battles the evil Saiyans in the final battle to save the Earth. When the Saiyans arrive on Earth it is a shock in more ways than one. Goku finds out the mysterious secret of his own past: he is Saiyan formerly known as Kakarot who was sent to Earth as a baby with the mission to conquer the planet. Luckily for Earth a near fatal head injury "scrambles" his programming and instead of becoming a destructive super-warrior he becomes an innocent pure-of-heart defender of Earth. Goku was raised by a peaceful, wise old man named Gohan, after whom Goku later names his first son. Goku is always there to help his family and friends and he is very protective of them. If he has a weakness, it is his trusting nature. Goku has many powerful fighting techniques including the powerful Kamehameha Wave and the Kaio-ken which he learns from King Kai. His last and most powerful weapon is an immensely powerful energy ball which garners energy from all sources on the planet, concentrates it into one sphere, and then releases it in one mighty swoop. This ball can be used only once and must be guided carefully for it can destroy the planet if used inappropriately.
KRILLIN
Krillin is Goku's best friend and the strongest human alive. Krillin met Goku in the Dragonball series when they both went to train with Master Roshi. At first, Krillin and Goku had a rivalry and hated each other, but then it developed into a strong bond of friendship. Krillin is a Buddhist priest determined to protect the Earth. He uses his great courage and fights against terrible odds to defend the Earth. However, later in Dragonball Z and Dragonball GT, he cannot keep up with the Saiyan warriors and takes a lesser role in the fighting.
Krillin first takes a meaningful role when he fights alongside Piccolo, Gohan, Tien, Chiaoutzu, and Yamcha to defend against the Saiyans : Vegeta and Nappa. After Yamcha falls to the Saibamen, Krillin bursts with rage and kills many of the remaining demon-like Saibamen. Then he helps hold off the Saiyans until Goku arrives. While this is happening, Krillin develops a strong friendship with Gohan.
When the Saiyans are defeated, Krillin, along with Gohan and Bulma, go to Namek to find the Dragon Balls. During this time, Krillin grows very strong as he is constantly battling. He fights with a lot of powerful fighters, including the Ginyu Force, and Frieza himself. Krillin meets Guru during this time, and he releases some of Krillin's inner potential. During the battle with Frieza, after Goku arrived, Krillin is murdered in cold-blood by Frieza. Goku is filled with such rage that his best friend has been killed that he turns Super Saiyan and consequently kills Frieza. After the Earth's fighters return home, there is much fear that Krillin will stay dead forever. The Dragon Balls would revive Krillin where Namek used to be, therefore killing him because there is a lack of atmosphere. However, they wish for Krillin's spirit to come to Earth, then revive him. Krillin is back alive and kicking.
Krillin's next challenge is a fight with a figure from the Earth's past. Garlic Jr., an evil being that tried to take Kami's position as Guardian of the Earth, is back for one more try. Krillin along with Gohan and Piccolo, fend off Garlic Jr. Krillin's next task is to help defend the world againt the Androids and Cell. Will he be able to compete?
GOHAN
Gohan, Goku and Chi-Chi's first son, was named after his adoptive grandfather. Physically, he resembles a young Goku right down to the tail and the propensity to become an uncontrollable raging Giant Monkey, while spiritually, he is good and pure of heart as well. Because of his protective mother, Gohan starts out as a wimp, but when the Earth is threatened, he reveals his tremendous potential as a fighter and uncontrollably "powers up" in order to rescue his father from a desperate situation. Because of this he is forced into training in preperation for the arrival of the Saiyans. Gohan's training is at the hands of Piccolo because his father is learning the fighting expertise of King Kai.
Piccolo and Gohan develop a special bond, which causes Piccolo to step in front of Nappa's mighty blast to save Gohan's life. Gohan's loss of nerve in the battle against the Saiyans cost all his friends dearly. But he is determined to make up for his cowardice by traveling to the planet Namek to find the Namekian Dragon Balls and wish his friends back to life.
Gohan's tremedous power is accounted for by the incredible mix between Earthing and Saiyan, which produces an even stronger being than either Human or Saiyan alone. Even though Gohan becomes the most powerful non-fused character, he never attains the love of fighting that Goku has.
PICCOLO
Goku's onetime arch enemy, Piccolo is the second strongest being on Earth. He wears an extremely heavy cape as constant training for his muscles, which he takes off when battling. He is renowned for his powerful energy blasts as well as his ability to split into two or four seperate entities. Green like a lizard, Piccolo has the ability to regenerate any limbs that he may lose in battle. This comes in handy more than once. Piccolo is a native of the planet Namek. He was reborn from an older, evil Piccolo, who in his last moments of life spat out an egg, which then hatched into this "new" Piccolo. He starts out fighting against Goku to rule the world, but when the Saiyans arrive Piccolo is forced to join forces with Goku and the others to defeat a greater more powerful evil.
At first the alliance with Goku is uneasy, but as the story unfolds, their bond becomes stronger. Piccolo even steps in to train Goku's son Gohan for the upcoming battle against the Saiyans. Piccolo is confused by the bond he sees with Gohan and by his own actions. Is he training an opponent who is stronger than him, and why does he risk his life to save Gohan's? Gohan sees the good within Piccolo and their relationship brings this good out of Piccolo. In the showdown with Vegeta and Nappa, Piccolo saves Gohan's life by jumping in front of an energy blast targeted at Gohan.
Piccolo, along with Tien, Yamcha, and Chiaoutzu, follow Goku footsteps and go to train with Martial Arts master, King Kai. At first, Piccolo does not take the training seriously, thinking catching a monkey is a stupid joke. But soon, he trains along with the others when they spar with each other. This is about the time that Goku has almost arrived on Namek. Gohan and Krillin have summoned the Eternal Dragon and are looking for guidance on what to wish for. Piccolo tells King Kai to tell them to wish him back to life with the first wish. Then with the second wish, move him to Namek. They immediately follow the commands. Piccolo is back in the game. Piccolo doesn't arrive right on the battlefield, instead he appears quite a ways away. Piccolo blasts off toward the battle, which now involves the evil Frieza. On the way, Piccolo sees a wounded, and dying Namek warrior. It's the heroic Naile, he tells Piccolo of an ancient Namekian fusion technique, he tells him of the increased power. Piccolo agrees to the merge, and Naile becomes a part of Piccolo. Piccolo loves his new power, he is a lot stronger now. He now heads out to the battle again. He arrives just in time to see a standoff between Frieza and Vegeta, Krillin, and Gohan. He tells the Z Fighters to back down, and that he will take Frieza alone. Piccolo and Frieza start duking it out, and suprise, Piccolo is kicking Frieza's ass. But before long, Frieza backs off and transforms into his 3rd form. In this form Piccolo is way overmatched and can't compete against the mighty Frieza. A combination of the Z Fighters hold the fort until Goku arrives and kills Frieza.
VEGETA
Vegeta is a Prince of Planet Vegeta, home of the Saiyans. During the Raditz and Saiyan sagas, he is the most powerful and feared of all Saiyans. Cunning, ruthless, and cruel in battle, he enjoys toying with any helpless creature who opposes him. His father, King Vegeta, was killed by Frieza when Vegeta was only a child. Frieza took Vegeta away and made him one of his minions. Vegeta served Frieza for most of his life, but secretly despised him. He had learned that Frieza was the one responsible for the destruction of Planet Vegeta. Vegeta, ever since learning about Planet Vegeta's fate, has planned to turn on Frieza. Although, he realizes that he doesn't stand a chance at his current strangth. He believes that if he can become a legendary Super Saiyan, he can defeat Frieza once and for all. So Vegeta fights as much as he can, battling to near death to try and reach Super Saiyan status.
Vegeta came to Earth along with his underling Nappa, another Saiyan. Their plan was to conquer the planet and take the Dragon Balls. With the Dragon Balls, Vegeta plans on wishing for immortality, this way he can fight forever. However, Vegeta and Nappa underestimate the Earth's fighters, and this is their downfall. When Goku arrives on Earth after his training with King Kai, the battle becomes a one sided affair for the Earth. Vegeta gets so fed up with Nappa that he mercilessly kills him. Vegeta looses the battle on Earth, but escapes death because of Goku's generosity. Vegeta has failed, he has not captured the Dragon Balls, and now he has been defeated by a lowly, unknown Saiyan. He plots to go to Planet Namek to find the Dragon Balls of the Namekians.
Vegeta flees the Earth in his Saiyan Capsule, barely hanging on to life. He arrives at one of Frieza's planets. He's helped into a healing tank. When Vegeta emerges from the healing tank, he finds out Frieza has left for Planet Namek to find the Dragon Balls himself. Vegeta follows Frieza to Namek hoping to get the Dragon Balls first. He discovers he cannot defeat Frieza alone, so he tams up with Gohan and Krillin, and then with Goku and Piccolo when they arrive.
Goku however becomes seriously injured and must be healed in a tank. Vegeta is basically left to fight Frieza alone, except for the occasional interference by Gohan or Krillin. Vegeta, devises a plan to win the day, he gets Krillin to shoot him through the stomach. Then he gets the Namek, called Dende, to heal him instantaneously. Because a Saiyan becomes much stronger after a near-death experience, Vegeta is stronger than ever. Now, with his new strength, he announces that he has become a Super Saiyan. But Frieza just laughs, he knows that Vegeta hasn't reached Super Saiyan yet. The two of them battle, and it appears Vegeta may be hanging in there, but he has not seen Frieza's full power yet. When Frieza powers up a small bit, Vegeta gets pummeled. His dreams of being a Super Saiyan have been smashed. Goku has finished his healing by now and emerges from the tank and on to the battlefield. But it is too late, Frieza kills Vegeta with a blast through the chest.
Vegeta is wished back to life by the Dragon Balls mistakenly. He finds out that Goku has reached Super Saiyan status though, and becomes angry with himself. Why can't Vegeta reach Super Saiyan? This question is rotting him.
GOTEN
Goten, the heir to Gohan's throne of kawaiiness, was one of few characters that actually had enormous potential (he probably could have surpassed Goku if he wanted to), seeing as how he had managed to turn Super Saiyan at a mere age of 7, before he even knew bukujutsu! He was always eager to help out during battle. He had a great sense of adventure, just as his dad did during the original Dragonball. He was always looking for someone to fight. In fact, when Videl told him and Trunks about Buu, they nearly pissed their pants with excitement. They couldn't wait to see him! But as time went on and Goten became a teenager, he gradually lost interest in training and fighting and concentrated more on getting dates. Quite the lady's man! Goten also was the only male member of his family that never reached the SS2 level. I personally would have liked to see Goten's character become more powerful, but the storyline didn't allow much opportunity for him to grab the spotlight, thus less chance for development of his character. What a shame!
Aside from looks and a sense of adventure, Goten also inherited Goku's "intelligence." Let's just say this kid's about as smart as a sack of bricks. He's even known for mispronouncing one of the most famous moves in DBZ, the "kameHameha," as "kameKameha." The lack of smarts also was probably due to the fact that Chi-Chi didn't put nearly as much pressure on him to study as she did with Gohan, and also wasn't as protective. It's okay, though, Goten. We still love you! Because Goku was dead for a while early on in his life (he had been killed fighting Cell), Goten had to learn to fight from Gohan, and even from his mom! Goten I think really looked up to Trunks, even with only the slight age difference, and he was also quite fond of Gohan. For instance, even though everyone thought Gohan's "Great Saiyaman" outfit was gay, Goten thought it was just the coolest thing in the world because it was his big brother wearing the costume.
Goten is all-around a really fun kid, even though he does have temper tantrums every now and then if he doesn't get his way... that's a little trick of his! He gets in trouble, he kicks ass, and he's just the cutest lil' thing you'll ever see, and he grows up into a total stud muffin! What's not to like?!
TRUNKS
Trunks is the first child of Vegita and Bulma. There are two Trunks in the DB universe; "Future Trunks" comes from a parallel universe 20 years in the future where evil androids rule the Earth. He goes back in time after the death of Frieza to prepare the Z warriors for the androids' arrival. So as not to prevent his own birth, he tells no one of his heritage, except Goku. "Chibi Trunks" is born a little before Future Trunks returns to his own time. He likes to hang out with Goten and they are very good friends. When he and Goten are together, he has a tendency to get them in trouble. Trunks is also sad that he does not have a brother like Goten does (Gohan). Trunks has purple hair and displays extreme levels of power, he reaches Super Saiya-jin when he is eight. Despite Trunks' ability to get Goten and himself in trouble, he means well.
