Anger. Bitterness. Disillusionment. Mix these elements with athletic precision and you have the core of Shane Douglas. The self proclaimed "Franchise" of WCW has had a career unlike any other. From '80s teenybopper to '90s radical, Douglas has turned the wrestling world on its ear with his great ring skill and controversial mouth. One thing to be said about Shane Douglas -- You never know what to expect.
Career History
Shane Douglas began his career under the guidance of wrestler Dominic Denucci... Douglas first joined the then-NWA as a member of The Dynamic Dudes with Johnny Ace. The team had a classic feud with The Midnight Express during the 1980s... Douglas soon grew frustrated with the "teeny-bopper" role he was playing and left the promotion... He would return several years later to team with the great Ricky Steamboat. The duo won the WCW Tag Team Titles, beating Barry Windham and Dustin Rhodes. The team had a series of matches with the legendary Hollywood Blondes. The matches were so good that they were bumped to the main event on several house shows... Following an injury, Douglas left the promotion and, he thought, wrestling altogether... Two years later, on the condition that he wrestle as a heel, Douglas debuted for ECW... He adopted the "Franchise" persona that he carries to this day... Douglas became famous for his vocal opinions on the state of the wrestling industry (not to mention his thoughts on Ric Flair)... Douglas would return to WCW several years later as the leader of The Revolution. The short-lived unit would give Douglas a rough introduction to the new WCW... It wasn't until the return of Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff that Shane Douglas truly felt at ease with his WCW character... His feud with archenemy Flair helped bring Douglas back into the WCW limelight, where he as remained ever since... Today, Douglas is united with the lovely Torrie Wilson in a true case of beauty and the beast.
Wrestling Style
The ring work of Shane Douglas can be summed up in two words: Scientific Brutality. Douglas began his career as a consummate technical wrestler with a small arsenal of aerial moves... He developed a Belly-To-Belly suplex that served him well in the early '90s... It was when Douglas arrived in ECW that his skills developed into a '90s hybrid style... Douglas now mixes in fierce brawling with his mat work... The Pittsburgh Plunge suplex has emerged as his go-to move, and he executes it with great precision... After several health setbacks, Douglas is now in the best shape of his career... His athleticism is now at a height almost unparalleled in WCW.
