Wrestling Background
Mark joined WCW seven years ago as a 900# correspondent... He quickly added magazine writing and Internet duties to his WCW responsibilities... He was a key figure in WCW's groundbreaking Internet real audio broadcasts, the first of their kind in sports entertainment... He co-hosted the "Internet Insiders" PPV pre-game show with Gene Okerlund, did PPV and house-show webcasts, has made frequent appearances on WCW Live!, and has generally made himself into the Internet's golden god in rather short order.... Mark became a member of the TNT Monday Nitro broadcast team in January, 2000... His boosters have lauded him as wrestling's first true "heel" color commentator in several years. His critics can go to hell... Mark lists Bobby Heenan, Jerry Lawler and Paul E. Dangerously as his primary broadcasting influences. He lists Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Sean Waltman and Ric Flair as his influences when it comes to wrestling philosophy... Mark has taken to calling himself "the best-looking fat guy on television," and who can possibly argue with him?... Says Mark, "I really like what I'm doing. Tony Schiavone and Scott Hudson are great to work with every Monday, all the performers have treated me great, and I get to ogle the girls backstage every week. I'm working in a business I've always loved, a business I never thought I'd work in, at a job that puts me on national TV. What could be better?"... Before joining WCW, Mark wrote for several "insider" wrestling publications.
Personal Background
Mark has lived his entire life in Pittsburgh, PA, home of wrestling legends like Larry Zbyszko, "The Franchise" Shane Douglas, late WCW referee Mark Curtis, Mark Madden himself, and no one else of any significance... Mark previously covered high school sports, the NHL and the NFL for the "Pittsburgh Post-Gazette"... He broke into radio four years ago... His sports talk show on WEAE-AM 1250 is currently ranked No. 5 in its time slot in Pittsburgh. Mark uses Jeff Jarrett's theme music to open each show and frequently stirs wrestling terminology and catchphrases into his radio vocabulary... Pittsburgh Magazine recently named him part of its "Top 40/Under 40," a list of Pittsburgh's most influential and successful under-40 residents... He is the Western Pennsylvania spokesman for Coors Light.
