| Chris Kanyon Height: 6'3" Weight: 270 lbs. Hometown: Queens, NY Pro Debut: 1995 AKA: Mortis, The Innovator of Offense Signature Maneuver: That's A Wrap "Who's better than Kanyon?" Usually the fans of WCW will shout out "everybody" just to annoy Kanyon, but that's not exactly true. Chris Kanyon is one of the most versatile wrestlers in WCW and true student of his craft, constantly looking for new styles to incorporate into his own. Lately, he's been studying the mannerisms of his long-time friend Diamond Dallas Page and has taken to copying him in the ring, even using his Diamond Cutter finisher, now re-named the Kanyon Cutter. Career History After years of working on the independent scene, debuted in 1997 as the masked Mortis, part of James Vandenberg's collection of Human Oddities... Feuded with Glacier, and teamed with Wrath, who is now Bryan Clarke of Kronic... When he ditched the mask and began wrestling as Kanyon, fans noticed his incredible arsenal of moves, and announcer Mike Tenay dubbed him the "Innovator of Offense"... Was briefly a member of Raven's flock... Became a part of the "Jersey Triad" with Diamond Dallas Page and Bam Bam Bigelow, winning the WCW World Tag Team Title... After working on the "Ready To Rumble" movie, fell in love with the Hollywood lifestyle and renamed himself "Champagne" Chris Kanyon. CCK, as he liked to be called, was always accompanied by beautiful women, and a bottle of champagne, which he would use as a weapon... Was instrumental in Diamond Dallas Page winning the WCW World Title from Jeff Jarrett... Assisted David Arquette during his brief title reign... Was thrown off the top of a steel cage through a ramp by Mike Awesome, but faked his injuries as being more serious than they were, so he could trick and turn on his former friend Diamond Dallas Page... Now copies Page's music, style and has even mocked DDP's autobiography, bringing out his own book "Positively Kanyon"... Is a threat to pretty much everyone with his Kanyon Cutter. Wrestling Style Tall and lanky, Kanyon is deceptively quick between the ropes... Tremendous student of the game, he is constantly adding new holds and moves to his arsenal... His primary finisher is the Flatliner, a reverse Russian legsweep that drives his opponent face first into the mat... He's also adapted DDP's Diamond Cutter into his arsenal, and claims that he actually invented the move and taught it to Page... Is just as comfortable wrestling as he is brawling, and is not above taking shortcuts. Did You Know? Kanyon has found quite an interesting side job as a stunt coordinator and fight choreographer for fight scenes in movies. In addition to working on "Ready To Rumble" he was also the wrestling advisor for a movie on the life of Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura... During his recent imitations of DDP, has claimed his book "Positively Kanyon" was co-written by WCW announcer Mark Madden... Although he hails from New York City, Kanyon has changed his hometown to New Jersey (when he was in the Jersey Triad), then California (when he was CCK) and now back to NYC. |
