Chapter 1
"A Friend in Need"
As James walked out of his home in Pallet Town, he looked around him and felt sick for
the ten-thousandth time he could remember. He looked across the street at the PokeZoo,
and that made him feel worse. He had visited it once, and saw how horribly the Pokemon
there were treated.
Since before he was born, Team Rocket had been confiscating any Pokemon they
considered dangerous, so if you were lucky enough to find a wild Pokemon, you had
better pray that it is weak.
"Mom, Im going to the old lab for the afternoon!" he yelled.
"Be back by 4:00!" was the only reply. He was surprised. Usually she would ground him
if he even asked to go to the lab. Well, he wasnt one to question authority, so he left and
walked the few blocks to the run down lab in the southern part of town.
Before he was even halfway there, he could see the old building looming in the distance.
He had reached the main gate, when a Rocket came walking down the street, on his
patrol. At his side he had a large and very mean-looking Arcanine. He realized that he
only had a minute until the Rocket caught him. James didnt want to even think about
what would happen if that happened. As he rounded the corner, he noticed a gap in the
wall that was surrounding the place. James jumped through it just as the Rocket passed
by.
As he walked up the hill, James realized that he was the first person to visit the lab in
years. The path was overgrown, and the grass was knee high. Just as he reached the door,
James looked up into the sky, and saw a Fearow carrying a Rocket who was also on
patrol. He was soaring through the permanently overcast sky. This made him want to
move inside very much, for obvious reasons.
The old building was very dank and musty, yet it seemed hardly touched by the years of
neglect. Besides the broken windows and lack of electricity, the place looked pretty good.
James was having fun exploring the place when he heard a crash from behind him. Two
Rockets and their Arcanines were staring right at him! He knew he was doomed, since he
didnt have a Pokemon to protect him. As a last ditch effort he picked up an old piece of
pipe and tried to protect himself.
"Ha ha ha! You think youre gonna beat my level 20 Arcanine, and his, with some stupid
pipe?!?!" one of the Rockets sneered. James didnt reply, and lowered the pipe in defeat.
He closed his eyes and waited for the inevitable, when he heard a loud screech.
"MEW!" He looked up. There was a funny-looking creature that looked like a cross
between a squirrel and a cat with a very long tail standing in front of him.
"What the
" The little thing was beating up the two Rockets, and their Arcanines! It
didnt look like it was having a hard time at all!
After only a few minutes of this, the Rockets and their Pokemon ran off.
"Thanks little guy, whatever you are." The thing looked at him, and then nudged a little
parcel towards him. He opened it and found two things. A piece of paper and a little
machine. He read the paper first:
THE LAST WILL AND TESTIMENT OF ASH KETCHUM
To Whomever Finds This Will:
I hereby leave this lab and all contents herein, namely my Pokedex, "Dexter," as well as
my best Pokemon, Mew. This Mew is the only one of its type, and should be treated
accordingly. If it has been left alone since the writing of this will, it will be at Level 10.
In closing, I would like the new owner of Dexter to complete my goal, and finish my
Pokedex.
James dropped the paper with a stunned look on his face. He had heard of a Mew before,
but only in stories. All he knew was that they were extremely powerful. He noticed that
Mew was activating a Poke Ball with his nose, so I didnt worry about him. I picked up
Dexter, and introduced myself.
"Hello, James, I see you have found Mew. By the way, after the battle with those
Arcanines he grew to Level 11. My current status is 56 Pokemon seen, 34 Pokemon
owned. There are several Poke Balls in that cabinet, so I suggest you get them and leave
immediately."
Chapter 2
"Battling the Bomb"
James didnt stay in the lab for long; he gathered all of the useful items he could find.
When he left the lab he had 4 Potions, 2 Antidotes, and 10 Poke Balls. He slipped home
as quietly as possible, and didnt have any problems with any Rockets on the way. Upon
bursting into his house, his cheery mood was dampened by his mother, who was sitting at
the kitchen table with a forlorn look.
"Whats wrong, Mom?" James inquired.
"Giovanni has blocked all exits from the city, and is going to firebomb us. He says that
Pallet is giving his empire a negative image, and plans to start over from scratch."
"Thats horrible!" James felt sick for a third time that day. "Oh, I almost forgot! Go!
Mew!" Mew came blasting out of his Poke Ball.
"Is that
your grandfathers
Mew? I thought Team Rocket took it when they took ov-"
"Grandfather?! Ash Ketchum is my grandfather?! Why didnt you tell me?"
"If the Rockets found out, they would have killed us
"
"What is that noise?" James yelled. He looked out his window and saw a tiny pinprick of
light headed for the town. "The bomb! Ive gotta stop it!" James grabbed Mew and ran
outside.
"Wait!" his mom yelled after him, but her effort went to waste. James was already out
side.
"Dexter! Quick! What are Mews moves?"
"A normal Mew of this level has only POUND and TRANSFORM, but it will soon lear-"
"Thats all I need, thanks! Mew, TRANSFORM into that rocket! Then take off!" Mew
did as he was told, and headed on a collision course with the real rocket. Seconds later,
Mew smashed into the rocket, and there was a huge explosion up in the sky.
"Mew! Dexter, what do I do?"
"Call him back with his Poke Ball."
"OK, Mew! Return!" As he said this, a beam of red light shot out of the Poke Ball and
into the sky. It got to a point and headed back down to James. As soon as Mew was back
in the Poke Ball, James called him out. Mew looked horrible. James covered him in
Potions, but he knew that unless he did something more effective soon, Mew would die.
Then he remembered the PokeCenter in Viridian City. They were greatly neglected by
the Rockets, but were kept open to heal the Rockets own Pokemon. Just then his mom
ran out of the house cheering, and then most people in the town did likewise, but James
ignored them. He noticed a Rocket who was coming to check on the noise, and he was
doing so on a prototype Hover-Board. He ran up and smashed the Rocket on the back of
his head with Dexter. His attack worked, and the Rocket fell to the ground unconscious.
This prompted even more cheering from the crowd, but James just jumped onto the board
and sped off. He was amazed that he stayed on, because he was pushing the boards
limits.
After what seemed like ages, James arrived in a dingy old town. He looked around until
he noticed a run down building with a faded old sign proclaiming: "PokeCenter." He
burst in, and gave the nurse Mew. The nurse was obviously well trained, because she
didnt ask any questions, and just started healing Mew.
Once Mew was set, the interrogation began.
"What is that thing, and why is it hurt so badly?" the nurse, who had introduced herself to
be Joy, asked.
"Its my Mew, and it just prevented Pallet from being destroyed." Joy seemed to
understand, and didnt ask any more questions.
James waited in the PokeCenter for almost 4 hours, until Joy appeared behind the
counter. He stood up, hoping for some good news. His hopes were crushed when he saw
the look on Joys face.
"Im afraid Ive got some bad news about Mew
"
Chapter 3
"Rehabilitation Begins"
"Whats wrong with Mew?" James asked.
"His arms, legs, and tail were all permanently injured in the blast. Now before you say
anything, there are two options. One is to get those limbs amputated, and the other, more
desirable alternative is to get them bionically reconstructed.
"Mew, do you want to go on?" Mew slowly nodded its head. "Were gonna get him
reconstructed."
"OK, you can go home and wait, and Mew will be ready in about two weeks." James
agreed and headed home.
He went home and was treated like a king for the two weeks it took for Mew to heal, but
all of the time Mew was on his mind. At the end of the two weeks, James rushed to the
Viridian PokeCenter to pick up Mew. When he got there he saw Mew hopping around
the waiting room.
"James, Mew may not battle under any circumstances until he has completely recovered.
Oh, and the implants will not interfere with Mews TRANSFORM."
"Thanks so much, Joy! I promise Ill repay the favor someday!" Then without waiting for
a response, James ran out the door and into a world that was more dangerous and
exciting than anyone could have imagined.
