Pokémon Red and Blue, the first Pokémon games to enter the US, were a big hit. Released on September 30, 1998, they were probobly the most popular GameBoy games ever to come the the US.
This game originated in Japan... Pokémon Blue was not out first. Pokémon Red and Green came out first, but the Japanese called green the boring version. Therefor, the US got the Red, and Blue versions.
The games started off as one of the top selling games, and stayed that way for several months. Then came Pokémon Yellow, where your 1st Pokémon is Pikachu, and you must keep it happy to make it battle for you. They are all are very fun, entertaining, and are not just a walk in the park. You have to go through the entire game, defeat people, and catch and raise your Pokémon to be the strongest. Then, after you have done that, you can trade with your friends, or battle eachother to see who is the best trainer and Pokémon Master.
You get a choice of 3 starting Pokémon: Charmander (fire type), Bulbasaur(grass/plant type), and Squirtle (water type), or in the Yellow version, Pikachu (Electric type.) Your rival will choose the opposite type of what you chose, meaning that he will choose the one that can defeat you the quickest. Most starters take Bulbasaur, because its good for starters. The more advanced players take Charmander, because it gives a challenge for the 1st few bosses. And most people who dont want much of a challenge will take Squirtle, because it can put out a fire types flame in an instant, and it can learn ice attacks to defeat a grass type easily too.
On your journey, you will encounter people who will want to battle you, Gym Leaders, who you must earn badges from to complete the game, and various other people who might help you, or trade with you. You will also have to capture many Pokémon, or evolve them, in either version. There is one hidden Pokémon in Red, Blue, and Yellow. Most people have heard of it, and a few havn't. Its name, is Mew. The origin of Mewtwo. You can not get it in the American versions without a gameshark, or through Nintendo though. So most people can not get it. That is just about the only bad part of Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow. |
