If you haven't heard of this game by now, you must live in a cave somewhere! Pokémon TCG has been sweeping the nation since its release here in the states. Its developers are none other than Wizards of the Coast, the ones who created Magic: The Gathering, a CCG (collectable card game). This game captures the essence of Pokémon, the excitement of battling your friends one-on-one and the challenge to collect all of the different cards. Much like Magic, Pokémon separates the cards into different "types". Each type is played differently, with different Pokémon available for each type. There are electric, water, fighting, psychic, fire, grass, and normal (colorless) types. Each type must be played differently in order to win. This adds a whole new emphasis on strategy for Pokémon.

Trying to build the perfect 60 card deck will be tough and will take time and experience to fine tune. I'll tell you right now that all 150 Pokémon will not be available in the first series. As the popularity of this game grows here in the U.S., Wizards of the Coast will release more series, each with new Pokémon. Recently, the new 'Jungle' series has been released proving how popular this game is. Each card can be classified as either common, uncommon, or rare. Rare cards are usually the fully evolved form of a Pokémon such as Blastoise or Charizard. Starter and pre-constructed decks come with 60 cards and start at around $7.99 to $10.99 depending on where you look. Booster packs go for around $2.99 and come with 11 cards (1 rare, 3 uncommon, 5 common, and 2 energy cards).

There are 6 different pre-constructed decks (now counting the 'Jungle' series), each with different Pokémon types and strategies with which to use them. There's the Zap (Electric/Psychic), Blackout (Water/Fighting), Overgrowth (Water/Grass), Brushfire (Grass/Fire), Power Reserve (Psychic/Grass), and Water Blast (Water/Fighting) decks. There's also a 2-player starter deck that will help beginners get introduced to the basics of the Pokémon TCG. Each of these decks come with easy to follow instructions on how to get you started on your way to become a Pokémon TCG master. These instructions also come with checklists to help you "catch 'em all", so get started while you can cause these babies are getting harder to find each day.
