Walk Through Part 2

NEW! Poetry and Doll Maker with Galleries!     [Learn About Our Ecommerce]
Graphics Gallery!

Route 12 is crowded with fishermen eager to test their newly captured water-type pokémon out on you. On your way you'll find Iron and a TM16, but you won't be able to get the TM until you can Surf. Eventually you'll run into Snorlax, be sure to catch him or else he'll run away for good (there are only 2 in the game). Next you'll find a house with a fishing guru inside. He'll give you his Super Rod! Get ready to drown some worms, we're going fishing!! During the course of the game, you'll be able to catch almost every type of water pokémon with this rod. Be sure to fish often and everywhere and you'll eventually catch all that you need to finish with all 150 pokémon. Route 12 runs into Route 13, 14, and 15 where a whole slew of trainers and new pokémon are to be found. These include Gloom or Weepinbell, Venonat, Ditto, and Pidgeotto. The entrance to Fuchsia has one of Oak's aides who will reward you with and Exp. All if you have 50 pokémon. Fuchsia is a very active town which should be fully explored so take your time.

The Route 18 entrance found at the far left of Fuchsia has a trainer inside who will trade you Lickitung if you have a Slowbro. Another fishing guru lives in the bottom-right house who will give you the Good Rod. With this rod you can catch Goldeen and Poliwag. The local gym leader, Koga, is a push-over and he'll give you a TM06 and the Soul Badge which will let you Surf and increase your pokémons' defensive power.

The Safari Zone should be your next stop and you'll find yourself coming back quite a few times in order to catch all of the pokémon inside. You'll find tons of items including the Surf HM and the Gold Teeth which need to be returned to the warden. He lives beside the fishing guru and will reward you with the Strength HM.The surf HM can be found in the secret house at the end of area 3.New pokémon inside include Kangaskhan, Nidorina, Nidorino, Rhyhorn, Venomoth, Exeggcute, Parasect, Scyther or Pinsir, Chansey, and Tauros. New water-type pokémon include Psyduck, Slowpoke, Krabby, and the very hard to catch Dratini. Now that you have the Surf HM, you can get to the Power Plant for even more pokémon!!!

Perhaps you may not remember that stream running down Route 9? Well, now you can Surf down it to the Power Plant. Be sure to collect all of the items inside, some of them turn out to be Voltorb's evolved form Electrode! The other new pokémon are Magnemite, Magneton, Raichu (Blue Version), Electabuzz (Red Version), Eevee (Red Version), and the 1st legendary bird Zapdos. Make sure you have plenty of Great and Ultra balls when you are ready to fight him. Most of all, be sure to save your game before fighting incase you accidently kill him in the process. Remember, you only have one chance to catch any of the legendary birds, and don't use the Masterball on them!!! After this, you should head down Route 19 towards the Seafoam Islands.

Route 19 is nothing but water as far as the eye can see. You get to it by going to the bottom of Fuchsia and Surfing. The water is populated by Tentacool and swimmers eager to show off their pokémons' skill. There are so many Tentacool that I advise buying some type of Repel item before venturing out. A little known fact is that you can fight Safari Zone pokémon here. If the Safari Zone was the last place you visited, you can fight them off the shore of the Seafoam Islands!!! To do this, Surf until you get to the shore of the Seafoam Islands. Then, surf back out up and down the shoreline. Eventually you'll run into Safari Zone pokémon which will not run away and may be caught normally. Before you enter the Seafoam Islands, be sure one of the pokémon you have in your group knows Strength, you won't be able to get through without it.

Don't worry about finding items, there aren't any. Your main concern is to make sure you push all of the boulders into their perspective holes in order to get through the water without getting swept away by the current. There are too many new or hard to find pokémon to name them all, but here are a few. You'll find Seel, Golbat, Shellder, Horsea, Slowbro, or even Golduck. There are 5 rooms in all, and the 2nd legendary bird, Articuno, is in the last room. Once again, use Great or Ultra balls to catch him. To leave, climb up the ladder at the top-right corner in room 2 by falling through the far-right hole in room 3. Route 20 leads to Cinnabar Island and your next badge!

There's more trainers and Tentacool along Route 20, but not to worry, it's very short. Cinnabar is right ahead and there's plenty to do for its size.

The pokémon lab here is full of surprises. You can trade a Venonat for a Tangela, Raichu for Electrode, or Ponyta for Seel. I don't recommend doing this since you can easily catch these yourself. You will also find a TM35, and best of all, transform your fossils into pokémon!!! By leaving the fossil with the professor here and coming back a little later, you'll receive Aerodactyl and Kabuto or Omanyte, depending if you chose the Helix or the Dome Fossil. Since this will take a little time, explore the Fire Mansion next to the local gym. Inside you'll find the gym key and new pokémon.

Inside the pokemon mansion you'll find pokémon statues like the ones found in gyms. Right at the beginning you can find a 5th Moonstone! Find it in one of the Pillars on the right side. Each one has a switch that when pressed will open doors. By hitting the switch more than once, you will open different doors on that floor. New pokémon include Ponyta, Muk, Koffing, Grimer, Weezing, and Magmar (Blue Version). Make sure you get all of the items and fight the trainers for experience. After recovering the gym key, return to the lab to pick up your revived prehistoric pokémon!!!

After getting your pokémon from the lab, its time to pay a visit to Blaine, the local gym leader. When you enter the gym, you will notice that it is filled with a series of doors, each guarded by trainers. You can either open them by answering pokémon questions at the computers next to them or by defeating the trainers. I suggest defeating the trainers, otherwise you'll be missing out on a lot of experience points. They use fire-type pokémon, just like their gym leader. After defeating Blaine, you'll receive his Volcano Badge and a TM.

Next, head up Route 21 and walk around in the grassy area at the end, you'll eventually find Tangela. Route 21 leads back to your hometown of Pallet.

What an exciting and exhausting journey this has been. You've finally come full circle, but don't pat yourself on the back quite yet. Where's that final badge? Remember that empty gym in Viridian, it's there. Inside you'll find an old and unwelcome face. No, not Gary but that of Team Rocket's leader, Giovanni!!! You should easily win the Earth Badge and TM27. After reforming Giovanni's old ways, head back to Route 22 and the entrance to Victory Road!

Along your way, Gary will stop you to fight for the last time...or is it? He uses the same pokémon and will prove to be a tricky opponent. It will not be an easy fight. After winning, head onto Route 23, the entrance to Victory Road!

To progress all the way through Route 23, you must have all of the gym leaders' badges. You must have pokémon with Surf and Strength abilities to make it through both Route 23 and Victory Road.

There are many trainers inside Victory Road which will pose serious threats to you and your pokémons' well-being not to mention tough wild pokémon. You'll find Marowak, Machoke, Graveler, Venomoth, and Moltres, the final legendary bird. This place is the worst maze in the game. My only advice is to make sure you cover each switch with a boulder using Strength to progress all of the way through. To get to Moltres, climb down the top-left ladder in the 3rd room to level 2. There you will find him awaiting your arrival. Once you make it through Victory Road, you'll find Indigo Plateau, home of the Pokémon League and the Elite Four!

Indigo Plateau has both a Pokécenter and Pokémart inside so regroup, recharge, and restock before heading off to your final challenge. The road to victory leads you through the Elite Four without a break in between fights. You may not backtrack to the Pokécenter when you start fighting them so have healing items handy. You may think the game's over, right? Wrong! Yep, Gary beat you to the punch and now you'll have to open a can of you know what and dethrone his smelliness.

The Cerulean Cave must be surfed to from the bridge in Cerulean City. It is home to the most powerful and rare pokémon in the world! There aren't any trainers inside, but there are items and pokémon to be had.

There are 3 levels in all and a certain supreme, almighty, wonderful, powerhouse of a pokémon waiting for you at the end. That's right, Mewtwo is here, the reason for saving your Masterball! You did save it didn't you? Well, if you got overly excited and used it, not to worry. It'll just be harder to catch him using Ultra and Great balls.
