MAHOGANY TOWN

Trouble in Mahogany

There's trouble in Mahogany! Team Rocket has the Gym blocked, and has the path to Route 44 shut down. (The guy who blocks your path will offer to sell you candy bars for 300 bucks, but he won't let you pass through whether or not you buy them.) So you're left with no choice but to head North to Route 43 (and the Lake of Rage).

The Unusual Item Shop

This Item Shop sells rather odd items like Slowpoketails and Tinymushrooms. Both have no real use and resell for the same price. When all the Team Rocket madness has cleared up the shop will go back to a normal store.

Route 43

Team Rocket has taken over the Guardhouse on the east side of Route 43. They'll let you pass for 1000 bucks. If you don't pay you'll have to head west. This may be for the best because the grassy areas along Route 43 are the only place you can catch a NEW, very cool Pokemon. When you have crushed the Rockets the Guardhouse will fall back into friendly hands, and you can then pass freely. And the new guard will thank you with TM 36 (Sludge Bomb), an awesome Poison-type attack. Head on North from the west side of Route 43 to go to the Lake of Rage.

Following the path to the Lake of Rage you'll come to this man's home. He will give you TM10 (the very odd Hidden Power skill). Continue on east for TM 43 (Detect), a skill that lets you avoid your opponent's next attack.

Lake of Rage

You don't need to capture the Gyarados to proceed, but you might as well. You will need to battle it. Whether or not you capture it you'll get the Red Scale when the battle is over with. Take this to Mr. Pokemon on Route 30 and he will swap it for an EXP Share. When you make it back to shore, you'll meet Lance. Follow him to the Item Shop and down the stairs and battle Team Rocket together.

Team Rocket HQ (level 1)

Each time you pass one of the gold Persian statues, a pair of Rockets come dashing out to attack. You'll have to fight the same two Rockets every time (but only the first time you pass each statue. Make it down to the computer room and turn off the security system completely.

Team Rocket HQ (level 2)

Lance is waiting for you at this point, and he will heal your Pokemon just this one time before you move on.

Team Rocket HQ (level 3)

Here Lance says you need to get 2 passwords from the Rocket members to unlock the doors on this level. The first member is the girl facing the computer. The other member is the guy near the 2 Pokeballs. After you battle him, talk to him and he will give you his password. Then follow the stairs until you get to the locked door. Your rival will come to talk but he won't battle. Unlock the door and fight the Rocket Executive. After he leaves, talk to the Murkrow and it will give you the final password, "Hail Giovanni." Then head on back to the second floor and unlock the second locked door.

Deactivate the Radio Signal. After unlocking the door, two Rocket Executives will come and gang up on you. Lance will come and fight one of them, while you fight the other. After that, Lance will tell you that the radio signal needs to be stopped. There is no switch, so you'll have to battle the Electrode and make them faint. When you defeat the Electrode, Lance will reward you with HM 06 (Whirlpool).

Battle Pryce for the Glacier Badge

Getting to the master of this Gym can be difficult. Once you set foot on the ice you slide from one wall to the other. Pryce has Ice Pokemon and are fairly easy to deal with, but some of the secondary types make things a bit tricky. Electric Pokemon would be probably the best pick for you to deal with these Ice types. After you defeat Pryce, you get the Glacier Badge!

Back to Goldenrod

Prof. Elm calls you and wants you to return to Goldenrod. Seems Team Rocket has taken over the Radio Tower and has the director hostage.

RADIO TOWER

Infiltrate and fight Team Rocket

Pick a roster of strong fighters and prepare to battle your way through several floors of Rockets.

You'll see a locked door on the third floor, but this will be opened later. Beat the Fake Director on the top floor for the Underground Key. This is the key that will unlock the blue door to the Underground Warehouse.

Battle the Rival

Your Rival has been following you and now wants to fight. Sneasel is one of those new Dark type Pokémon (Psychic has no effect).

Evil Puzzle

Next you will have to press switches to open doors and remove walls. To get to the Female Rocket leader you must push the switches in this order: the Left switch (#3), then Middle (#2), then the Right one (#1).

Save the Director

You'll encounter more Rocket Grunts until you finally enounter the Director of the Radio Station. He'll give you a Card Key that'll unlock the 3rd Floor shutter that was locked before in the Radio Station.

Go back to the Radio Station and unlock the door. Beat the rest of the Rockets including the male and female Rocket Executives.

Get the Rainbow or Silver Wing

After defeating the Rocket Executives, the Director will come and thank you. He'll also give you a special Wing (Silver version: Silver Wing, Gold Version: Rainbow Wing). These wings will let you get Ho-oh (Gold) and Lugia (Silver).

Gift for Saving the Tower

Before exiting the Radio Tower, go around and talk with the people pictured. They will give you something for saving the Radio Tower.

Eevee

Don't forget to stop by this house in Goldenrod City to get your own complimentary Eevee from Bill. Have a slot open for it though or you won't be able to get it. You could also buy an Eevee at Game Corner (for 6,666 coins). Next head back to Mahogany Town and enter the Ice Path.

ICE PATH

Route 44

Take Route 44 from Mahogany Town to Ice Path. Along Route 44 there's a thin strip of grass and here you can find a super-rare Max Revive. Also it is the only place you'll find a Lickitung. A Lickitung will come in handy for a future event. You can pick up a Tangela here as well. Also talk to Wilton the Fisherman (trainer #6) about Swarms. He'll inform on getting one of these strangely adorable little creatures.

Ice Mazes

You'll have to get past a very hard obstacle to get the HM07: Once you reach the ice part of the cave(where you slip and slide), do this in the following order; go up, left, up, right, up, right, down, left, up, left, down, right, down, right, up, right. Now go right and get that item ball and you get HM07. This HM lets you ride up Waterfalls.

A couple of New Pokemon you might want to pick up while at Ice Path are as follows. Swinub: At level 33 evolves into (Piloswine, shown below left), the powerful Ice/Ground Pokemon. There's also a shy bird called Delibird (shown below right) in the Silver version.

Now it's off to Blackthorn City to get the Rising Badge

BLACKHORN CITY

Getting rid of Unwanted HMs

Finally you can get your Pokemon to forget HMs. This is the place when you need to free up move shots on a favorite Pokemon. There is a guy in Blackthorn City that will erase TM's or HM's from your Pokémon. Just talk to him and he will ask which move you want deleted.

Santos on Saturday

Hey, there's Santos! (on Saturday of course). Santos will give you Spell Tag after talking to him. Spell Tag will increase the power of Ghost moves of the Pokemon that have it.

Battle Clair for the Rising Badge

To make your way to Clair you need to go to the second floor and push down the blocks (similar to the puzzle in Ice Path). Clair's Dragon Pokémon can be taken out with Ice attacks. After you defeat Clair, she still won't give up the Badge, or TM 24 (Dragonbreath). First you must surf behind the gym and enter a cave called the Dragon's Den and get an item called the Dragon Fang.

Get the Dragon Fang- Dragon's Den

Bring a Pokemon with HM06 (Whirlpool) and swim into the Dragon's Den behind the Gym. Just grab the Dragon Fang and go. Then Clair comes along and gives you the Rising Badge, and TM24 (Dragonbreath).

When you exit the Dragon's Den, Professor Elm tells you he's got something for you. Go back to New Bark Town and talk to him further.

Back to New Bark Town

Receive the Master Ball

When you get back to New Bark Town, talk to Prof. Elm. He will give you the Master Ball.

Catching Ho-oh (Gold Version)

Ho-oh is relatively easy to find compared to Lugia. Go back to Ecruteak City and go inside the northern house. Take all the stairs and eventually you see a Tower. Go inside and go to the top. There you will find Ho-oh. It might be wise to save your game before fighting Ho-oh, because, like Mewtwo, there is only one. Using your Masterball isn't recommended. Ho-oh is only level 40.

Catching Lugia (Silver Version)

You need a Pokemon with Surf, one with Whirlpool, and one with Flash to get Lugia.
Go to Olivine City and surf south trying to stay as far to the right as you can. There are 4 entrances to the cave where Lugia is, so if you follow the wall, the first enterance you come to is the one you should enter.

Once you are inside, go to the right and choose the top path when it comes to a fork. Now you will make your way to the waterfall, go down it, then surf up and you should find Lugia swimming in the water.
Lugia, like Ho-oh, is only level 40, so using the Masterball isn't recommended.

Pokémon League

Now head back to New Bark Town and get ready to advance to the Pokémon League.
But first make sure you have a Pokémon with Surf and Waterfall. And heal all your Pokémon in Elm's Lab.
Next it's time to surf east from New Bark Town to Route 27.

ROUTE 27

Map Card

Talk to the fat guy when you reach dry land. He'll give you a new map card expansion that has the map of the original Pokémon World from Red, Blue, and Yellow (Kanto).
Next you enter a cave that has a waterfall. Surf up it and then down the other side to get out of the cave.

TM 37- Sandstorm

Once you exit the cave you'll find a house. Inside the house, there's an old lady that will give you TM 37, Sandstorm, for talking to her.

TM 22- Solar Beam

On Route 27, you can Surf off the bridge to find TM 22. Make sure you bring a Pokemon with Whirlpool along to get it though, because, there is a whirlpool blocking the path to get to it.

Route 27 and Route 26

Next you surf east some more and encounter more trainers when you reach land. There's new Pokemon to catch and trainers to fight.
Before heading onwards, there is a house with a woman who will heal all you Pokemon for you.
Then head North and you eventually reach Victory Road.

YOU ARE SOOOOOOO CLOSE COME ON YOU CAN DO IT

VICTORY ROAD

Dungeon- Level 1

Take the ladder shown on this first map to get to the next level. (Also notice on this level: Max Revive and Full Heal

Dungeon- Level 2

There's only one ladder going up which you can access at the moment, so take that one to get to the next level. (Also notice on this level: TM 26, Full Restore, and X Special.)

Dungeon- Level 3

The Exit is obvious. You can fall down the hole on the left to get TM 26 below.

Another Rival Ambush

After a long grueling dungeon, as you approach the exit, you're greeted with another Rival Ambush. Your Rival has 6 Pokemon, and their level is quite high.

The Pokemon in Victory Road are great for leveling up your Pokemon before encountering the Elite Four. The Graveler gives you experience points in the 600's, Onix in the 500's, Rhyhorn in the 600's, Golbat in the 700's, and Ursaring/Donphan in the 800's.
When your Pokemon are about level 50, or so, now go take on the Elite Four at the Indigo Plateau.

INDIGO PLATUE

Preparing for the ultimate battles

Just like in Red, Blue, and Yellow, you will fight the Elite Four and Pokémon League Champion one after another with chances to heal your Pokémon in between. So I suggest before you go up the stairs to the first battle, buy plenty of healing items and Revives, because you might need them, and they definitely come in handy.

Will

Will is your first match. He is a Psychic Trainer and uses a new Pokémon called Xatu. It is a Psychic Bird that evolved from Natu. Electric attacks should do the trick on everything except for Exeggutor. A fire Pokémon can take out Exeggutor easily.

Koga

It looks like Koga has moved from being a Gym Leader to an Elite Four member. He still uses Poison type Pokémon. If you have a Kadabra or a Pokémon with Psychic, it can easily wipe out all of Koga's Pokémon.

Bruno

Bruno is back and he's using his favorite Pokémon types: Fighting and Rock. Hitmontop is a Hitmonlee/chan relative. It's the one where it spins on its head with three feet in the air. You should have a strong water Pokémon that can take out all of Bruno's Pokémon. If not, a psychic like Kadabra can do.

COME ON YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Karen

Karen likes to use a variety of Pokémon, but mostly Dark ones. Umbreon is the Eevee evolution that you can get if you level up Eevee at night (Espeon, the Psychic one, by leveling up Eevee during the day.) Use a powerful attack to knock out Umbreon. Vileplume can be taken out with a fire move. Murkrow is a crow Pokémon. One electric attack should knock it out quickly. Gengar doesn't like Psychic. Houndoom is a devilish looking fire dog. Use Hydro Pump or Surf.

KICK SOME LANCE BUTT

Lance

Looks like Lance beat you to being the Pokémon League Master. Like in Red, Blue, and Yellow, Lance likes to use his Dragon type Pokémon. Lance uses basically the same lineup as in Red, Blue, and Yellow, except for the fact that he has 2 Dragonites in place of his 2 Dragonairs. But that makes it even easier. Gyarados - Electric attack. Dragonite - part flying - Ice or electric attack. Dragonite - Ice or electric attack. Aerodactyl - Hydro Pump or Surf. Charizard - Hydro Pump or Surf. Dragonite - Ice attack.

The End

Congratulations you have become a Pokémon League Champion. Professor Elm and an interviewer named Mary will come and congratulate you. Lance will save you from the interview, and will take you to the back room where he'll enter them in the Hall of Fame. Then you will watch the credits and see "The End".

GOOD JOB YOU DID IT, I KNEW YOU COULD!!!!!
