Heres a stradegy guide someone emailed to me for yellow version!Pokemon Yellow Strategy Guide I did not make this
The best Pokémon in the game are (in my own opinion?found the most
success with these):
#10: Jynx-Very underrated. Since it is Psychic/Ice, its only
weaknesses are Fire, Bug, and Fighting. It is also very quick with a
very high special. I taught mine Psychic and with Blizzard, it is unstoppable.
#9: Ninetails-Surprised? So was I when I first used it. It is
extremely quick with a high special. I consider this to be the best
Fire around. Besides, Confuse Ray, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, and Body
Slam are very helpful. (hah, you thought Charizard was the best)
#8: Electrode-Teach it Thunder/Thunderbolt to accommodate its high
special. Since it is so fast, it almost always attacks first. Also,
if you get in trouble, Explosion comes in handy. (hah, surprised huh?)
#7: Starmie-Water/Psychic. Very quick with a high special(sounds
familiar). Probably the best Water around. Because of the part
Psychic, it can learn Psychic, part Water yields Blizzard, and it can
learn Thunder for some reason. I like this one. (thought of Blastiose, huh)
#6: Jolteon-The best Electric. Weak against only Ground. With a wide
variety of moves (Double Kick, Pin Missile, Thunder) it can defeat a
lot. Very fast with a high special.
#5: Exeggutor-The fact that it is part Psychic boosts this one's
special very high. The only drawback is that it is slow. Probably the
best Grass (yes, even better than Venusaur).
#4: Rydon-Definitely the most powerful Ground/Rock. It has a lot of
HP, a high attack/defense, and very little affects it. My 2nd favorite
Pokémon is this one.
#3: Gengar-Since very little even remotely effects it, it's a good one
to use. Also has the ability to learn a wide variety of moves, plus
learns the dreaded Confuse Ray.
#2: Dragonite-Extremely powerful. I taught mine a wide variety of
moves. It also has a very high special/attack. I have found the most
success out of this (besides Mewtwo).
#1: Mewtwo-Big surprise. Very high special, fast, good
defense/attack, and the ability to learn almost any move make this one
the best. WALKTHROUGH -----------Here's what I know so far:Pallet Town
-----------Just like red and blue, you walk out into the grassy area north of
Pallet Town. Again, Professor Oak stops you but instead of you going
directly back to his lab, a Pikachu attacks you. Professor Oak simply
throws a Poké-ball and catches it. After you go back into the lab, you
see a Poké-ball sitting on a table. Professor Oak tells you to take
it, and when you try to, Gary runs in and snatches it. It is an Eevee.
So, Professor Oak gives you the Pikachu instead. Gary challenges you
as well. If you lose, shame on you. If you win, Pikachu levels up.BATTLE: Gary
Pokémon: Eevee, Lv. 5
Just keep using Thundershock. This battle is ridiculously easy.
Route One (North of Pallet Town)---------Items: PotionPokémon: Pidgey, Ratatta
Trainers: None
Just a place to level up. Don't worry about catching those Pokémon
yet, since you don't have any PokéBalls anyway. I suggest leveling up
Pikachu to 12 or so. Yes, 12. If you can't be patient enough to take
up about 10 extra precious minutes to level up, then stop, take the
game out, and sell it right now.Route 22 (West of Route 1)--------Items: None
Pokemon: Spearow, Nidoran(m.), Nidoran(f.), Mankey, Pidgey, Ratatta
Trainers: Gary
You'll want to catch a Mankey here and train it until it learns Low
Kick. That will come in handy when fighting Brock.BATTLE: Gary
Pokémon: Spearow Lv.9 Eevee Lv. 8
Use Pikachu's Thundershock on Spearow and Mankey's Low Kick on Eevee.
Viridian City-------------
Go to the Mart and get Oak's parcel. Bring it back to Professor Oak in
Pallet Town and he'll give you a Pokédex. GO back to Viridian City and
buy some PokéBalls and some Antidotes for good measure. When you're
ready, head north to Viridian Forest.Viridian Forest---------------
Items: PokéBalls, Potion, AntidotePokémon: Pidgey, Pigdeotto, Caterpie, Metapod
Trainers: There are a couple of bug catchers here. No big deal.
Nothing much to do here, except catch and level up. Pidgeottos are very rare.
Route 2-------Items: None
Pokémon: Pidgey, Rattata, Pidgeotto, Caterpie, Metapod, Nidoran (m),
Nidoran (f.)
Again, just catch what you don't have. Make sure Mankey is level 12 or
so. Pikachu should be about 16 or so.Pewter City-----------
Nothing to do here. Oh, wait, sorry, it's the first Gym battle. Time
to get the Boulder Badge!!The Boulder Badge:
There is one Jr. Trainer here with a Diglett and a Sandshrew. Fight
him, then it's off to Brock!BATTLE: Brock
Pokémon: Geodude Lv. 10 Moves-Tackle, Defense Curl
Onix Lv. 12 Moves-Tackle, Screech, Bide
No problem if you leveled up Mankey like I said to. Low Kick kills
them very fast. When you win, you get the Boulder Badge and TM 34,
which is Bide. The Boulder Badge increases the defense of all your
Pokémon a little and lets you use FLASH anytime.GYM LEADERS-----------
I'm really lazy about finishing the walkthrough, so here's a little
guide to hold for the Gym Leaders until I eventually finish the walkthrough.
BrockLocation: Pewter CityBadge: Boulder Badge
Effect: raises defense a little, use FLASH anytime
Pokémon: Geodude Lv. 10 Tackle, Defense Curl
Onix Lv. 12 Tackle, Screech, BideTM Prize: TM 34-Bide
I advise a Mankey with Low Kick or a Butterfree with Confusion.
Actually, Nidoran (both) learn Double Kick very early this time, so
that will work too. Just a note-In the grassy area just south of Mount
Moon, you can find a Sandshrew. I advise you catch it and level it up.Misty
Location; Cerulean CityBadge: Cascade Badge
Effect: all Pokémon up to level 30 obey, use CUT anytime
Pokémon: Staryu Lv. 18 Tackle, Water Gun
Starmie Lv. 21 Tackle, Water Gun, Bubblebeam, Harden
TM Prize: TM 11-Bubblebeam
Staryu is nothing. Starmie can be a pain if Pikachu isn't high enough.
You CAN be killed with Bubblebeam easily if you are too low. Be
prepared. DO NOT USE MANKEY. Catch an Oddish before you leave for
Vermillion City and level it up on the S. S. Anne. Lieutenant Surge
Location: Vermillion CityBadge: Thunder Badge
Effect: raises speed a little, use FLY anytime
Pokémon: Raichu Lv. 28 Mega Punch, Thunderbolt, Mega Kick, Thundershock
TM Prize: TM 24-Thunderbolt
If you caught and trained a Sandshrew like I said to, this fight is a
piece of cake. You should have a Sandslash by now. If you have TM 28-
Dig, teach it to Sandslash. If you don't have it or want to save it,
no big. Just use Slash. Don't forget to get Squirtle from Officer
Jenny. Blastoise will be a big help later on.ErikaLocation: Celadon City
Badge: Rainbow Badge
Effect: all Pokémon up to level 50 obey, use STRENGTH anytime
Pokémon: Lv. 29 Tangela Mega Drain, Vine Whip, Bind, Constrict
Lv. 32 Weepinbell Acid, ?, ?, ?
Lv. 32 Gloom Acid, Petal Dance, Sleep Powder, ?
TM Prize: TM 21-Mega Drain
By now, you should have a Wartortle, Primeape, Sandshrew, Gloom, and Pikachu.
Teach Wartortle TM 13-Ice Beam and use it on Erika until it dies.
Primeape will work from then on out. At this point, I traded a Magmar
over form my blue version and used it as my fire. If you can't do
that, then buy a Vulpix at the Celadon Game Corner. Evolve it at level
35 when it learns Flamethrower. Teach Gloom Mega Drain.Koga
Location: Fuchsia CityBadge: Soul BadgeEffect: Use SURF anytime
Pokémon: Lv. 44 Venonat ?, ?, ?, ? Lv. 46 Venonat ?, ?, ?, ?
Lv. 48 Venonat ?, ?, ?, ?
Lv. 50 Venomoth Toxic, Double Team, ?, ?TM Prize; TM 06-Toxic
I killed the Venonats too fast to see their moves. Venomoth wouldn't
do anything else. Use fire on each one, no problem. You should have
Ninetails by now if you don't have Magmar. You should also be getting
ready to evolve Gloom soon with the Leaf Stone and you should have Blastoise.
SabrinaLocation: Saffron CityBadge: Marsh Badge
Effect: all Pokémon up to level 70 obeyPokémon: Lv. 50 Abra FLASH, ?, ?, ?, ?
Lv. 50 Kadabra Kinesis, Psybeam, Psywave, Reflect
Lv. 50 Alakazam Psychic, Psywave, Reflect, Recover
TM Prize: TM 46-Psywave
Do NOT USE VILEPLUME. It is weak against Psychic. Use anything you
can. This battle is VERY frustrating. Use Ninetails or Magmar with
Confuse Ray. Also Blastoise's Ice Beam helps; you may end up freezing
them. Pikachu's Thunderbolt and Thunder are effective as well.Blaine
Location: Cinnibar IslandBadge: Volcano BadgeEffect: raises special a little
Pokémon: Lv. 48 Ninetails Confuse Ray, Flamethrower, Tail Whip, Quick Attack
Lv. 50 Rapidash Growl, Stomp, Fire Spin, ?
Lv. 52 Arcanine Fire Blast, Take Down, Reflect, ?
TM Prize: TM 38-Fire BlastUse Blastoise. 'Nuff said here.Giovanni
Location: Viridian CityBadge: Earth BadgeEffect: ALL POKéMON OBEY!!!
Pokémon: Lv. 50 Dugtrio Sand-Attack, Earthquake, ?, ?
Lv. 53 Persian Slash, Screech, Fury Swipes, ?
Lv. 53 Nidoqueen Thunder, Tail Whip, Earthquake, ?
Lv. 53 Nidoking Thunder, Earthquake, Thrash, Leer
Lv. 55 Rydon Fissure, ?, ?, ?TM Prize: TM 27-Fissure
Blastoise can defeat them all, but Thunder from Nidoking and Nidoqueen
WILL take him out. Use Psychic or Ground moves on them. I will not
lie to you. This battle is TOUGH.STRENGHTS/WEAKNESSES--------------------
