One of the new features in gold and silver is that you can breed pokemon.

In order to breed you must have a male and female pokemon.

When you get a male and female pokemon you goto the day care right before GoldenRod city you give the lady the female pokemon and the man the male pokemon. Some pokemon cannot be breeded such as porygon,porygon 2, mew, mewtwo and others. The only pokemon that can be breeded with all pokemon is ditto. When you breed ditto they have no gender but if you have a male pokemon you must give ditto to the lady, and when you breed that pokemon and ditto if the pokemon is a 2nd or 3rd evolution you will get in egg with the first evolution. The time it takes to breed pokemon is very hard to tell but if the 2 pokemon have 2 differents ID no. then it will get an egg faster. The egg will hatch after a certain amount of steps. The steps it takes to hatch depends on the egg. Keep checking the egg and when it says it moving inside soon it will hatch so all you7 have to do is keep walking.
