GROWING DAILY
Pretty rings in a local shop
waterfalls of flowers with petals that drop
thoughts of him that keep her on the hop
for her love grows daily and will never stop.
will she burst with such overflowings
pictures that her mind is intricately sewing
he has them too she has a way of knowing
they share joy and pain with all these comings and goings
a need to be together is so strong that it hurts
they sometimes make light of it and giggle and flirt
oh they enjoy that too that is a cert
but their serious moments are like a sensuous dessert !!
embraces and murmurings give so much pleasure
moments remembered are ones to treasure
touching and holding ..time is not measured
kissing and sighing ... the things they so treasure

NOT EVEN THE WISEST
Sitting reading love poems
oh the power of the spoken word
verbal murmurings of love unleashed
to think they may never be heard
the strength of someones longing
captured on the page
still cannot convey the feelings felt
not even by the wisest sage
emptiness, longing and a need so deep
for the touch of a loved ones hand
only a desert flower could tell
of the parch and thirsty land.
but love has beauteous moments
when thirst is slaked at last
the pleasures of those precious moments
bury the sad and lonely past.

A CHILD, A WOMAN AND A DOG CALLED HONEY
As a child she ran and skipped
even giggled when she tripped
now she lives in a darkened world
can't even see a flower unfurled
as a child she watched both snow and rain
loved to make tiny daisy chains
now she just hears thunder and feels the sun
and yet admits that a new life has begun
for golden, agile Honey became her eyes
warns her against both shock and surprise
oh talented friend with silken coat
and warm moist breath,
your brought back life when she only wanted death

A POEM FOR A FRIEND - AND HIS GIRLFRIEND
It seems that we met, almost by chance
And I so so glad the we have
I am so pleased that I gave you a second glance
I hope that you are glad that we have
I caught a look in your eyes that day
That made me pause for awhile
and I felt a warmth that encouraged me
The moment that I saw your smile
we are closer now than we were before
And I am ever so glad that we met
your tender kiss makes me warm inside
leaves me feelings I will never forget

LOVEKNAPPED
she has woken up with thoughts of you
but that for her is nothing new
you are in her mind for the rest of the day
whether she be working or at rest or at play
he has kidnapped this woman
her body, soul and mind
his words and actions
leave other suitors far behind!
time spent together
is not often theirs
but when these precious moments materialise
they have learned to throw away their cares
fated to live apart
the two of them
make up those many miles
with loving thoughts
often provoking laughter
and uncontrollable smiles.

HER BLUSHING FACE
Oh ! he brought a twinkle to her eyes
and a smile on to her blushing face
the night they walked hand in hand
to their secret trysting place
Oh the stories that they shared
and the touches they exchanged
secret glances showed they cared
their lives now re arranged.
emotion was surely on his tongue
when he spoke to her of love
and he meant it when he called her
his precious turtle dove
and he is oh so whimsical
and she giggled at his jokes
but she noticed how they both changed
when sharing caresses and gentle strokes

AN EMPTY NEST
Some talk of the earth as a melting pot
I think of her as a great big nest
all of us fledglings in the beginning
protected by Mother Natures warm breast
some leave the nest early
not always because they choose the time
some fly off on their own
some stay awhile till they think its fine
birds in flight can fly together
instinct showing them the way
the loners too find their own routes
and they learn sometimes whilst at play
I think of two special birds
hatched far away from each other
and the winds of time and generous Fate
brought these two fledglings together
born in different countries
born in different years
but blossoming love makes sure
these two love birds are not indifferent
have no fear
the distance remains almost constant
for they are fated to live far apart
but the love of these two strangers
brings them close, a mere feathers breadth apart

A LIVING THING
She fingered his gift
as though it were a living thing
touched it gently
sentimentally
reluctant to let go
he had held it
kept it warm
and surrendered it to her
for her to share
and he was as precious to her
as any rare gem stone
might be to a collector
of fine artefacts
he brought freedom
to her in her confinement
refinement in the shape
of purest love
they both share a desperate need
to be close, embrace
be face opposite face
be one, entangled
and she knew him
and wanted to know so much more

A PONY'S TALE
I stood pawing at the ground
Desperate for someone to play with
I was but a foal alone,
When you came and ran away with me.
We stole away in secret
Made sure that nobody saw us
Then became lovers, friends
Oh, what a future lay before us.
You taught me how to run, to be free,
To let go, to have fun, to be me,
We loved, we laughed, we played.
Then everything went sour.
You didn't stay.
For days and weeks and months
I hobbled round
Tearful, missing the love that I had
So unexpectedly found.
I rummaged around memories
Of those Brief Canters I had had with you,
I thrust my chin, tossed my head
and mane and searched for pastures new.

ONLY IN THE FALLING RAIN
She stood and stared
He was no longer there
All her sighing was silent
So they wouldn't know she cared.
'The sun will shine again'
they said 'so do not shed your tears'
and only his shadow was to return
but only inthe falling rain
Autumn came and went
and through the dusky mist
different lips appeared
needing to be kissed.

SOUNDS
She used to long for the sound of music
music of any kind
now it was the sound of his velvet voice
that soothed her troubled mind
she needed to hear him speaking
she needed his voice so much
but most of all she yearned yet again
to feel his oh so tender touch
warmth can come from sunshine
from a fire or a candles flame
but she knows the warmth that comes
from simply hearing his name.
touched by his love and his caring
she has found a reason to start to live again
with the love she has discovered
life will never be the same

YOU AND ME
thinking of you
I think of you and me
the we
that we have become
you and me
me and thee
the very words
sound so gentle to me
it touches me
my very soul
with you my love
I have become whole
not a fractured
piece of surviving being
it happened
when we started you and me-ing

LOVE AT A DISTANCE
Love at a distance
her candle in the dark
oh for a hand in hand walk
with her sweetheart in the park
love keeps her breathing
a smile on her face :)
but her mind at least
can drift away from this place
love in abundance
winging over the water to her
returned to him tenfold
she hopes that he knows that she cares

TAKE ME IN YOUR ARMS
Take me in your arms
and kiss away my pain
help me face my problems
make me calm again
in your arms I can forget
my problems for just awhile
your tender loving eyes
will make my sad face smile.
only you can do it
you seem to understand
my problems all evaporate
when you take my trembling hand

YOU MADE ME SMILE TODAY
You made me smile today
And I am smiling still
My sky was grey and I was blue
but you removed the chill
You spoke to me of love in a way
that I have never heard before
your word have moved and warmed me
and left me wanting so much more.

HIM
In my mind I see him walking
in fields of poppies and wild grasses
at dusk we are together
sipping iced coffee
and gently clinking glasses
when the sun shines
he is stretched out on the sand
or staring out to sea
looking not at the frothing waves
for he searches the horizon
just for me.
we look for each other
in everything we do
it brings us closer
and wondrous things
come into view
magical things happen to us
even when we are far apart
we breathe the same air
love the same things
share the one pulsating heart

WHICH WAY
which way is the wind blowing
the sun shining
the moon glowing
we two can share
these three
which way is the river flowing
the snow falling
there is no knowing
but we two
can share
these too
the air that you are breathing
the sun beneath which
you are bathing
is the same for me too
for me and you.
and these very thoughts
keep me going
when thoughts of you
are too-ing and fro-ing
they keep me going.

Poets Who Care is an organisation whose motto is WORDS CAN HELP and whose aims are "charity fund raising and therapy through poetry". Over the last 25 years its founder, Merseyside poet Sylvia Lukeman and fellow writers have compiled more than 30 charity fund raising anthologies and audio cassettes of thought provoking poems by more than 400 poets. Some write for pleasure or even more important perhaps simply because writing has become therapy for them. Writers groups from all over the United kingdom have donated poems. For the last year many writers from all over the U.S.A have also been donating their verses because of an introduction over the Internet by 13 year old schoolboy poet Marc Waters from Maryland. In Winter 1998 Poets Who Care twinned with fellow writers in Tulsa Oklahoma, This vibrant talented group have added an exciting extra dimension to the work of Poets who Care. Sylvia was delighted to accept an invitation to Oklahoma, from their president, Alton Charles McCloud to meet the poets and work with them earlier this year.
GIFTS of unused British and American postage stamps and donations made payable to THE BOOK FUND are always welcomed..These may be sent to Alton Charles McCloud, President of the North Tulsa Literary Guild,Inc., P.o. box #6221 Tulsa, Oklahoma 74148-0221,U.S.A.
