EACH TIME YOU LEAVE

Each time you leave me
I grow stronger.
I learn to abide the nights
once eerily long,
daybreak holding back
until I can no longer stand the darkness,
now a warm cocoon of dreams
held gently in a bed
that doesn't creak and bow
to nightmares of your world.
I chose the meals, the music,
the length and breadth of
traveling into the canyons
to hear the silence of my own heart.

And when you return,
the rightness of things
goes all topsy and turvy until
I can make the necessary adjustments:
of saying yes, when I mean maybe,
maybe when I mean no.

Each time you leave,
my protest of your absence
grows less strident.
"I miss you" is less real.
For each time you leave,
you leave me -- expanding
into who I am becoming
without you.

LOST LOVE

Everyday she thinks back,
The wonderful way he caressed her face.
The caring look in his eyes,
the way he smiled,
It took her breath away.

One day he was hers,
The next day he was gone.
In an instant she lost so much,
His last breath lingered in her memory.

So many tears, she cries,
As he watches her from above.
If she only knew he was looking.
If she could only feel his touch.
One more time, that's all she wants.

Finally that day arrived.
She fell into his arms again.
She felt his sweet caress
and it took her breath away.

DREAMS

The rain softly was coming down
Dark clouds hung overhead
It was a gloomy, sad sort of day
But inside of me the sun was shinning brightly
Wandering thoughts of someone so dear
One who has such beauty I want to hold
Often dreaming of making smile and laugh
Long talks of this and that and everything else
Laughing and crying we share so much
My heart aches when you are sad
When melancholy strikes think of our friendship
Like a seedling it can only grow stronger each day
Hoping and dreaming that you will smile
And open your heart just a little
Once you do the sun will shine for you as well

THE RARE MOON FLOWER
Sora le Cron

Next to my home in the Caribbean,
I sat on my candlelit patio
Listening to the warm, quiet ocean,
While sipping my sweet hot cocoa.
Then I felt a chill in the air.
I searched, feeling a little sour.
What was it that caused that feeling?
And then I saw a blooming Moon Flower.
No one could see it but a lucky few,
That flower so immortal, heavenly, pure,
As white as the moon, as shy as a child,
Yet as proud as a woman in rabbit fur.
I stared at the flower in silence.
I was full of mystery and pride.
Then I wept tears of sorrow
As the rare flower withered and died.
I watched as it withered and died.

WISHES

If dragons could make wishes come true
Only these wishes I would wish for you.
Happiness, health, a bountiful life,
free of all worries, free of all strife.

Knowing dragon cannot make them come true,
I wish from my heart all the best for you.
Life, love, happiness and more,
for the rewards you have given I have lost score.

Thank you for being a friend..
being there and knowing when..
to hold me close and say "it's all right,
things will be better at mornings light."

Dragons cannot make wishes come tree..
So my heart wishes all these things for you...

EACH DAY

Each day brings new beginnings,
Don't let your life drift by,
Visit friends, who share your thoughts,
And hold your head up high

Wear a smile upon your lips,
Carry love within your heart,
You'll make it in the outside world,
All you have to do is start.

Make some plans, set your goals,
Don't waste another minute,
Just use that hidden inner strength,
You'll see - the sky's your limit.

Move on ahead and don't look back,
Your strength will grow each day,
You'll find that peace within your mind,
You thought you lost one dismal day.

I'M STILL HERE

Mom, please don't mourn for me
I'm still here, though you don't see.
I'm right by your side each night and day
and within your heart I long to stay.

My body is gone but I'm always near.
I'm everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I'll never depart
As long as you keep me alive in your heart.

I'll never wander out of your sight-
I'm the brightest star on a summer night.
I'll never be beyond your reach -
I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach.

I'm the colorful leaves when fall comes around
And the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond,
The clear cool water in a quiet pond.

I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in the spring,
The first warm raindrop that April will bring.
I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
And you'll see that the face in the moon is mine.

When you start thinking there's no one to love you,
You can talk to me through the Lord above you.
I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
And you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.

I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
And the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I'm the smile you see on a baby's face.
Just look for me, mom, I'm everyplace!

WHAT I AM NOT SAYING

Please ... hear what I'm not saying

Don't be fooled by me,
Don't be fooled by the face I wear.
For I wear a mask, I wear a thousand masks,
Masks that I'm afraid to take off,
And none of them are mine.

Pretending is an art that's second nature with me;
But don't be fooled, for God's sake don't be fooled!
I give you the impression that I'm secure,
That all is sunny and unruffled in me,
Within as well as without,
That confidence is my name and coolness is my game,
That the water's calm and I'm in command,
And that I need no one, But don't believe me.

My surface may seem smooth
but my surface is my mask,
My ever-varying and ever-concealing mask.
Beneath lies no smugness, no complacence.
Beneath dwells the real me, in confusion,
in fear, in aloneness. But I hide this.
I panic at the thought of my weakness and
fear being exposed. That's why I frantically
create a mask to hide behind, A nonchalant,
sophisticated facade, to help me pretend,
To shield me from the glance that knows.
But such a glance is precisely my salvation.

That is, if it's followed by acceptance,
If it's followed by love,
It's the only thing that can liberate me from my self.
From my own self-built prison walls,
From the barriers that I so painstakingly erect.
It's the only thing that will assure me of what
I can't assure myself..That I'm really worth something...
But I don't tell you this, I don't dare...I'm afraid to.

I'm afraid your glance will not be followed by
acceptance and love.
I'm afraid you'll think less of me, that you'll laugh...
And your laugh will kill me.

I'm afraid that deep down I'm nothing,
that I'm just no good,
And that you will see this and reject me.
So, I play my game, my desperate pretending game,
And my life becomes a front.

I dislike the superficial game I'm playing,
the superficial, phony game.
I'd really like to be genuine and spontaneous,
and me, But you've got to help me.
You've got to hold out your hand...
Even when that's the last thing I seem
to want or need. Only you can wipe away from
my eyes the blank stare of the breathing dead...
Only you can call me into aliveness...

Each time you are kind and gentle, and encouraging,
Each time you try to understand because you really care,
My heart begins to grow wings,
Very small wings, very feeble wings, but wings.
With your sensitivity and sympathy,
and your power of understanding,
You can breathe life into me. I want you to know that.
I want you to know how important you are to me.
How you can be a creator of the person that is in me,
if you choose too...

It will not be easy for you.
A long conviction of worthlessness builds strong walls.
The nearer you approach me,
the blinder I may strike back;
It's irrational but despite what the books
say about man, I am irrational!!!

I fight against the very thing that I cry out for.
But I am told that love is stronger than strong walls
and in this lies my hope.My only hope.
Please try to beat down those walls with firm hands,
But with gentle hands--for a child is very sensitive.
Who am I, you may wonder?
I'm someone you know very well...
For I am every man or woman you meet.

AN ANGEL'S PLEA

Mama, mama, please don't cry.
I'm in heaven, looking down.
I watch you day and night.
I watch you smile.
I watch you cry.

We'll be together again one day.
But in your heart, I'm with you always.
Mama, mama, please don't cry.
You loved me then.
You love me now.

You played with me when I felt sick.
You read me stories and taught me to pray.
You held me when monsters entered my dreams.
Mama, I am safe in heaven now.
Mama, mama, please don't cry.
I loved you then.
I love more now.

I ONCE TOLD ...

I once told a man that I no longer voted.
He responded by telling me this.
The choice of whether I voted or not was why he waded through rice paddies,
toted guns, and fought battles.
It wasn't long afterward that I began to vote again.

I once told a man a lie.
He responded by telling me this.
All of the decisions that he made were based upon the words that I spoke.
I have long since told the truth.

I once became upset over a gift I received, because it wasn't what I wanted.
The giver saw the disappointment in my eyes and told me this.
He chose the most valuable gift he could find, because he felt I should have it.
I am since very joyful over each gift that I receive.

A man once told me a secret
which I quietly whispered in another friend's ear.
The man told me this, after hearing his own secret repeated.
The reason he told me the secret was because he trusted me, not my friend.
I no longer take trust so lightly.

I once gave a gift to a friend and she cried.
I told her it was just a small gift I had found.
Her response was that it was not the gift,
it was that I had thought of her.
I now give gifts often.

The shiny coin was not to be mine, so I had been told.
But on my way out the door, it found its way in my hand.
When it was discovered that I had stolen the coin,
I was quietly taken aside.
The owner of the coin told me this.
Integrity is given with a choice.
I have since chosen to stand with integrity.

Once I told a man of all of my dreams.
He smiled warmly and even chuckled
then asked if I ever planned on living any of them.
I now choose the spending of my days very differently.

I AM THE CENTER OF MY UNIVERSE

but I do not live here alone.
each move I make creates a ripple in someone else's ocean
each breath I take affects the air all around me
each word I utter falls on someone else's ears
that which I touch is felt by another
that which I do will certainly affect another
that which I do not, will also affect another
we never know how far reaching something we say or do really is
until it returns to us ...
and it always does
All things in life form a circle
whether we see the circle or not

DON'T LOOK BACK

As you travel through life
there are always those times
when decisions just have to be made
when the choices are hard,
and solutions seem scarce
and the rain seems
to soak your parade!

There are some situations
where all you can do
is to simply let go and move on
gather courage together
and choose a direction
that carries you toward a new dawn.

So pack up your troubles
and take a step forward,
the process of change can be tough
but think about all the excitement ahead
if you can be stalwart enough!

There could be adventures
you never imagined
just waiting around the next bend
and wishes and dreams
just about to come true
in ways you can't yet comprehend!

Perhaps you'll find friendships
that spring from new interests
as you challenge your status quo
and learn there are so many
options in life,
and so many ways you can grow.

Perhaps you'll go places
you never expected
and see things that you've never seen
or travel to fabulous,
faraway worlds
and wonderful spots in between.

Perhaps you'll find warmth
and affection and caring-
a "somebody special" who's there
to help you stayed centered
and listen with interest
to stories and feelings you share.
Perhaps you'll find comfort

In knowing your friends are
supportive of all that you do
and believe that whatever
decisions you make,
they'll be the right choices for you!

So keep putting one foot
in front of the other
and taking your life
day by day.

MY CUP HAS OVERFLOWED

I've never made a fortune, and I'll never make one now,
But it really doesn't matter 'cause I'm happy anyhow.
As I go along my journey
I'm reaping better than I've showed.
I'm drinking from the saucer
'Cause my cup has overflowed.

I don't have a lot of riches,
And sometimes the going's tough
But with kin and friends to love me
I think I'm rich enough.
I thank God to the blessings
That His mercy has bestowed.
I'm drinking from the saucer
'Cause my cup has overflowed.

He gives me strength and courage
When the way grows steep and rough,
I'll not ask for other blessings for
I'm already blessed enough.
May we never be too busy
To help bear another load.
Then we'll all be drinking from the saucer
When our cups have overflowed.
