CHRISTIAN POETRY
by Calvin Hart
Father Please
Peer Pressure
Marriage
No Greater Love

  • Calvin Hart is my favorite Christian Writer. I first used his "The Ultimate Hero" on my Hero Page but he has touched me deeply in many ways. So I have selected a few that mean a lot to me. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

  • Father Please
    By Calvin Hart
I stand on the brink of a miracle,
An event that will change my life,
The greatest gift of love, that our Lord above,
Can bestow on a husband and wife.

I stand on the brink of creation,
A father I soon will be,
    A position of great importance,
    And responsibility.

    Charged with the physical well-being,
And spiritual needs of my family,
I ask for wisdom and guidance,
I ask for Thy help, Father please.

I ask that my child be healthy and whole,
    Free from sickness and disease,
I ask that both mother and child,
Live long fruitful lives, Father please.

I ask for patience when my day is long,
And my mind is a raging sea,
I ask to be tender, loving and mild,
When I handle my child, Father please.

I ask for courage and power,
    To defeat my enemies,
To protect my family in times of danger,
I ask for Thy strength, Father please.

I ask for the Holy Spirit,
To help teach my child about Thee,
As I teach her Thy way, and how she should pray,
I ask for Thy love Father please.

I thank Thee dear Lord for Thy blessings,
For Thy grace and tender mercies,
I ask for the shelter of Thy mighty hand,
I ask, keep us safe, Father please.

I ask Dear Lord that You help me be,
A fraction as good a Father as Thee.
I humbly ask on bended knee,
In Christ Holy name I ask, Father please.
    Calvin Hart

  • Peer Pressure
Sometimes in life it's hard to tell,
What we should or should not do,
Just because my friends do something,
Does that mean I should do it to?

I want so much to be accepted,
I want so bad to just fit in,
Should I join in and follow the crowd,
Although what they do might be a sin?

If I say no, will they laugh at me?
Or no longer be my friend?
Will they think that I'm a coward,
If I don't go with the trend?

    When they run the streets,
    And smoke and drink,
    And generally act a fool,
If they invite me to go,
    And I say no,
Will they think that I'm uncool?

If someone hands a joint to me,
    And says.."everyone's doing it",
Will I turn and leave like I know I should?
Or will I take a hit?

I'm under a lot of pressure,
To let loose and go with the flow,
It's often easier to go along,
Than to stand and just say no.

    On the other hand ....

If I asked them to go to church with me,
Do you think that they would come?
Or would they roll their eyes at me,
And act like I was dumb?

If I should ask those friends of mine,
To kneel with me and pray,
Would they shake their heads and laugh at me,
    Then go their separate ways?

Would they laugh at me, if I tried to tell them,
How Jesus died for their sins?
If they do, then I think it is time,
That I found some better friends.

But I will still try to talk to them,
    About Jesus and His love,
    I'll tell them of salvation,
    And of Heaven up above.

And when temptation comes to me,
And I feel pressure, lust or fright,
I'll try to do what the Bible tells,
    That Jesus said was right.
    Calvin Hart

  • Marriage
The start of a brand new family,
Is like the dawn of a brand new day,
With hopes and dreams and promises,
Of what may come your way.

Some problems in life will give you trouble,
    And make you very sad,
    But bare them together,
    Share them together,
And you'll see their not so bad.

Now you've stood before the Lord,
Took your vows hand in hand
    And became of one Heart,
    One mind,
    And one soul,
In God's union Now start your walk through life together,
    Walk it side by side,
    And always remember,
    A home of love,
Is a home where God abides.
    Calvin Hart

  • No Greater Love
They say there is no greater love,
Than when one gives their life for another,
Would you be willing to lay down your life,
For a child, a loved one, or other?

Would you be willing to go to your death,
Would you be willing to face the grave,
Would you willingly draw your last sweet breath,
So that another might be saved?

Is there enough Christian Love in your heart,
    To make the ultimate sacrifice?
Would you walk in the very same footsteps,
As our Lord and Kind, Jesus Christ?

Would you have left the splendor of heaven,
To be born unto mortal men,
    Knowing that torture awaits you,
To die in the cross for all sin?

Would you willing stand and be beaten,
Until your flesh was torn to shreds?
Would you stand quietly, while others spit on you,
And shoved a crown of thorns on your head?

Would you allow yourself to be nailed to a cross?
Would you willingly suffer and bleed?
Then pray to your Father in Heaven,
To forgive them of the deed?

    Jesus did.

He willingly faced a certain death,
    He made the ultimate sacrifice,
A debt was owed that I could not pay,
    So Jesus paid the price.

With blood from the veins of the Savior,
    Salvation was bought for me,
As sure as the angels sing praise to His name,
No greater Love can there be.
    Calvin Hart
