Many people think of herbalism, as an alternative to conventional medicine, as used in North America. They interpret the use of synthetic drugs, as the standard and anything other than this is alternative. However, most hebalists think opposite of this theory, since herbs have been around for centuries. As estimated by The World Health Organization, two-thirds of the world's population, apporximately four billion people, use herbs as their primary medicines. The majority of the tools and drugs used today, have been existence less than a hundred years. In essence, herbalist feel historically speaking, that the alternative medicines are the synthetic drugs that are in use today in North America. |
