From Pokemon TCG Organized Play (Summarized Version):

Pokemon Organized Play strives to improve its programs while continuing to provide a fun, competitive tournament experience for players of the Pokemon Trading Card game. The following changes to the POP structure will take effect at the beginning of the 2006- 2007 tournament season, which begins September 1st, 2006.

Age Group Changes:

For the 2006-2007 tournament season, a player’s age category will be determined at the beginning of the season, based on their date of birth, and will not change over the course of the tournament season. The new age divisions will be defined as follows:

Junior Division: Born in 1996 or later

Senior Division: Born in 1992, 1993, 1994 or 1995

Masters Division: Born in 1991 or earlier

Battle Road:

Due to the change in the invite structure for the 2007 World Championships, the Gym Challenge series becomes unnecessary. Pokemon Organized Play will replace this series with a new event series. The Battle Road series will be similar in scope to City Championships in regards to the number of events, with a slightly smaller prize pool.

Premier Rating:

Pokemon Organized Play will only support one rating for the 2006-2007 tournament season. This rating will consist of any event that Pokemon Organized Play designates as a Premier Event. These events will include City, State, Regional, and National Championships, as well as the new Battle Road series. Additionally, markets which do not run all of the events listed above will be given consideration on a case-by-case basis to run additional events which can be flagged as Premier Events. Prereleases, while no longer considered Premier Events, will continue to be operated by Premier Tournament Organizers.

Each series will have a K-Value based on the size and importance of the series. The higher the K-Value, the more rating points there are to win, or lose. Having a higher rating will play an important role in who receives an invite to the 2007 World Championships. Non-Premier tournaments will still be sanctioned, and we will continue to support these tournaments with free prize support as we have in the past, though players will not receive rating points for playing in these events.

World Championships:

In an effort to give more of our players the “big show” experience, Pokemon Organized Play will be putting more emphasis on making each country’s National Championships a more premium event. The 2007 World Championships, held at the Hilton Waikoloa Village in Kona, Hawaii, will be a smaller, more exclusive event than it has been in previous years, with approximately 64 players participating in each age group. The invite structure for the World Championship will be modified to accommodate this goal. There will be no Last Chance Qualifier for the 2007 World Championships.

[Questions and Comments on This News Story]

some odd news
SEVIERVILLE - The little monsters fighting it out in the gymnasium of the First United Methodist Church in Sevierville weren't even disciplined afterwards. In fact, some parents even joined in the melee. No worries - the battle was not between juvenile delinquents but pretend monsters in a Pokémon Trading Card Game EX Crystal Guardians prerelease tournament. Matthew Myers, 16, came with his father, David, to play. "I've pretty much been playing since it began," he said. "We just come as a family," David said. "And friends," Matthew added, gesturing to some of his buddies in attendance. Pokémon, a Japanese word meaning "Pocket Monsters," is a collectible card game. Players battle each other using decks of cards representing monsters with various special powers to battle; However, the colorful subject matter disguises the fact that the game is mathematics-based. About 45 Sevier County players competed in the tournament Saturday, which provided the opportunity to preview and play with not-yet released cards from the upcoming game expansion. "Holy mackerel, a Blastoid!" said player Robert Keith Rogers, referring to one of the monsters featured in the game, while sorting through his new cards. Pokémon League Leader Kaye Kershner said that many people underestimate the challenges of the game. "Anyone who says Pokémon is not a sport is wrong," she said "It's a mental sport. They have to think really fast." Kevin Bolden brought his sons, Matthew, 7, and Joey, 10, to play. He said it's a bonding experience. "We play every night," he said. Bolden gave his sons some advice as they tried to decide what cards to use in their deck. "You need to do the best you can with what you've got," he said. " Players were divided into three age categories: 10 and younger, 11 to 14, and 15 and older. For an admission fee of $20, each player received six booster packs of the EX Crystal Guardians, from which each player will build his or her deck. Players kept the cards at the end of the event. Players who completed the tournament received two additional booster packs of cards and other merchandise.

Fateen (Japanese: ¥Ó©`¥Ç¥£ Biidy) is known as the "Mother of Pyrite Town". The old woman gets almost as much respect from the town's citizens as Duking. Everyone in town knows her and has asked for her advice at one time or another. Many Pok¨¦mon trainers ask her if they will win battles or tournaments. Others ask about romance.

Fateen runs a rather large fortune telling business at the very enterance of Pyrite Town, in Orre.

Fateen appears to have actual psychic power. She is the one who gives Wes and Rui the first clue about how to purify Shadow Pok¨¦mon and directs them to Agate Village.

She also later points them in the direction of the Under.
