The child like gardener, Chance, knows nothing of the outside world, other then what he observes on the television. His apartment in a D.C. townhome, has so many televisions in it, that he is able to watch one from wherever he is. There is even one in the green house! He often says "I like to watch."
When "the old man dies" (no! I will NOT explain the entire film to you... go rent it you fewl!) Chance is forced to leave the townhome. He doesn't know exactly what he is doing, but he walks around D.C., stopping to watch the TV in a store window. He backs up behind a car and stand there. When the car backs up into him, the man driving jumps out to help him. Chance end up being taken to Eve's house (woman in the back of the car). This house is really the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina (for real!) Eve's husband Ben, is dying, but Chance's uplifting presense makes him feel a lot better. They become very close friends.
When the president comes over, he asks Chance a question, and Chance responds by talking about a garden. He didn't really understand what the president was saying, so he just said something that he knew how to talk about. A garden. But Ben goes deep into what he says and finds a hidden meaning. This is where Chance's life takes an unexpected turn. He goes on TV, and becomes very famous. But he doesn't know it. All he knows is how to garden and how to watch TV. So what happens next?

This movie is sad, funny, and all the other possible things it can be. Peter Sellers was so wonderful! It wouldn't have been as good as it was if he hadn't played Chance. And to tell you truth, I wouldn't have rented it if he didn't. And it's got MAD FUNNY out takes! =)

In loving memory of Peter Sellers - this site is dedicated to him... the one and only Inspector Clouseau
