| PHOLWITAYA BILINGUAL SCHOOL |
In 1954, with the licensing and approval of the Thai Ministry of Education, Pholwitaya Elementary school was formed and opened. It was located in a small part of the current day premises, and initially started teaching children at Kindergarten and Primary 1 levels. Since then the school has grown; it now covers an area of 12 rai and has, as it's student body, over 4,000 students. The school currently teaches all age levels, from Kindergarten through Primary year 6.
As the needs of a child's education changes, then so does the nature of schooling. In 1997, the school desired to offer an alternative children's education program, and after considering the options, it was decided that a bilingual program, that would ultimately include Secondary education as well, should be started.
The new school was called Pholwitaya Bilingual School, and the first full semester started in 1998, in accordance with Ministry of Education stipulations, and subsequently completed the full academic year as well as a 'Summer Camp' semester. Presently, the school occupies it's new purpose built premises and runs as a totally seperate entity to the regular school. For the academic year 1999-2000, the school is teaching Kindergarten years 2 and 3, and Primary years 1 and 2.
The facility consists of 4 floors plus a gymnasium and a grass playing field. There are 32 classrooms, as well as a library, a computer room, a music room, a science room, a teachers' room and all the other neccessary offices and canteen areas. The teachers room and the library are are equipped with a full range of teaching and learning materials and tools.
Each classroom contains all the needed furniture to accommodate two teachers and the students, and there is a full set of activity games in each classroom. The walls are decorated with up-to-date posters depicting language and math skills, science, technology and geographical facts etc.,and a students'display board is attached to one wall. |
