It's the third run for this wrestling engine, but this time around Aki has thrown in a little extra magic to get the most out of THQ's newly acquired WWF license. WWF Wrestlemania 2000 is going to be a hot one and to keep the fire going we've thrown together a collection of movies showing off some of the keenest introductions. We're also presenting a king size monster of a movie that will answer many of your questions but will no doubt lead to even more inquiries about the game's realism. That's okay because we're prepared to answer what we can. For now, just start downloading because that Supreme Greatest Movie of All Time is a mother.

Preview Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, prepare yourselves for the latest addition to the booming entertainment that is the wide world of professional wrestling -- an entertainment that has carried its popularity over into the far less mainstream community of videogames without a hitch.
With a large library of wrestling games already available for Nintendo 64, you might be asking yourself, what makes this one so special? Well, it's developed by the Asmik/Aki Corporation for starters, the same software duo that brought us such classics as WCW Vs. NWO: World Tour and WCW/NWO Revenge. Ironically though, the latest from the Japanese developer won't be featuring the likes of Bill Goldberg or Sting, but rather Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. That's right, just as Electronic Arts has picked up the WCW license, THQ has nabbed the lucrative WWF license from Acclaim.
The game is called WWF Wrestlemania 2000, and it's scheduled to come out just in time for the holiday 1999 holiday season. While the ambitious title is extremely early on and THQ isn't willingly offering details to the press, at least a few goodies are guaranteed. IGN64 has thrown together a quick feature list of what to expect from the anticipated wrestler. Below are those features:
- "Lots" of official WWF wrestlers. Though THQ isn't commenting, it's a safe bet to assume that everyone from Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock to The Undertaker, Mankind, and HHH will make an appearance in the game.
- "Lots" of official rings and events. All your favorite pay-per-view shows and happenings.
- Create-a-wrestler feature. While it probably won't be as extensive as the one found in WWF Attitude, it seems almost a given that if THQ hopes to compete in the wrestling war, it's going to have to step up to the competition and deliver this option.
- Stat tracking.
- Arcade-style scores at end of match.
- Championship mode.
- Super enhanced wrestler entrances. This is already evident in the screen-shots we've provided. Asmik/Aki set the standard for videogame wrestling glitz with WCW Revenge. WWF Wrestlemania 2000 will no doubt expand upon what we've seen from the developer thus far.
- Full grappling system.
- Hidden weapons.
- Television-style instant replay feature.
- Realistic polygon models and real-life texture face-maps of athletes.
- Hugely improved crowd graphics.
- Combo move system.
- Rumble Pak compatibility.
- Four-player support.
- EEPROM save feature
The Game
WWF Wrestlemania 2000 runs on an enhanced version of the Revenge engine, which means the classic "grappling" system of old will be making a return for one more go-around. That means WWF fans who were jealous of the gameplay mechanics in THQ's WCW titles needn't fret any longer for that will all be remedied soon.
Unfortunately, because THQ is still trying to keep the wrestler under wraps, it's difficult to say for sure exactly what changes will be implemented to the engine. But a picture is worth 1,000 words, and the screen-shots provided speak loads. Looking at them, you can already see a number of features at work -- from an instant replay mode to totally tweaked crowd textures. And considering the fact that THQ knows it has to one-up Acclaim's WWF Attitude, you can bet Wrestlemania 2000 will boast a ton of options in the vein of character creation support -- but most of all, it will likely set out to capture the atmosphere of the WWF like no other wrestler before it.
Outlook
It's obvious already that WWF Wrestlemania 2000 will be a huge hit for THQ. The game, created by the same talented team that busted out the unbelievably popular WCW Vs. NWO: World Tour and WCW/NWO Revenge for Nintendo 64, is no doubt working feverishly to ensure that Wrestlemania 2000 one-ups its previous efforts by a significant margin. And honestly, we don't think the game-maker will have any problem doing just that.
Definitely a wrestler to look out for.
