Others have said so, and I'm reiterating it:
We don't hate the national language. But we
don't love it either. The feeling is just lukewarm
at the most. Even if it makes communication among us,
Filipinos, easier and thus "unite" us as a nation.
Even if it enables us to understand the early morning news
on TFC and watch Philippine movies as well.
We can't just love at all what is not our language.
But despair not.
For there is a way by which we may learn to love
it, or to like it, rather. Yes, there is a solution to that.
It is, as a matter of fact, a sure-fire formula.
And it is:
Remove such a language from its position as a national language.
Replace it with the local language as the medium of instruction in
schools. And behold: We couldn't probably help liking that language!
The feelings would be like how we looked at Japan when it invaded us
and was occupying our country. We hated it then.
Now that she is no longer there, she is one of our best friends.
