Introductory Exercises for Watercolour Painting

Flat Wash
Use a piece of inexpensive watercolour paper. Tilt the board slightly towards you. Mix a generous amount of rich colour. With a no.12 brush, soak up a quantity of colour, but don't have the brush sopping wet. Spread it deliberately and firmly from left to right across the top of your page. Now carry a second wash down the left side and follow a third on the right, all the while working rapidly.
