| On Jan 22, 2000 Mets signed free0agent reliever Rich Rodriguez. Rodriguez spent 4 years in the Mets season before being drafted in 1984. Rich, 34, will make $600,000 this year with the Mets, and will make $900,000 in 2001. Rodriguez will make an additional $50,000 if he appears in 60 games in each 2000 and 2001. Rodriguez played for the San Fransisco Giants last year and was 3-0 and had a 5.24 ERA in 62 games. I think that this was a good deal. The Mets get a quality reliever and will most likely be the set-up man. He only 34, so the Mets can keep him for about another 4 or 5 years. He has good stuff, and now joins a jammed pack staff of lefties, including: Dennis Cook, Turk Wendell, John Franco, jesse Orosco, Bill Pulsipher, Mike Hampton, Al Leiter, and Bobby M. Jones. I'll keep you posted. |
