| The Mets GM Steve Phillips and the Mariners GM Pat Gillick had a deal worked out that would send Griffey to the Mets.The trade was goign to be, Mets send Seattle, Roger Cedeno, Octavio Dotel, Armando Benitez, and Dennis Cook. The Mets would get Griffey and a minor leaguer. But Jr. has the ability, becuase he's been in the major leagues 10 years, and on the same team the last 5, to veto any trade that he's involved in. So Griffey said NO to the Mets-Mariners deal.Well, sorry Mets fans that Jr. said no, but look at it this way if we got Griffey, we would of never have gotten Hampton. Cedeno, Dotel are the key players in almost every deal the Mets were talking about. Right now it looks very, very hard for the Mets to get Griffey becuase the M's wanted a good startign pitcher (Dotel) and they needed speed and an OF to fill Jr.'s hole in CF (Cedeno).
