This is a copy of a leaflet I recieved from a local diet center on the effects of chromium on your diet.

Chromium is present in American Cheese, liver, wheat germ, and brewers yeast ( not Torula yeast). It is also available as chromium picolinate, chromium chloride, and "Chromate", which is a patented yeast-free niacin bound chromium polynicotinate.

Chromium is a co-factor for insulin. It help maintain proper blood sugar levels. it lowers LDL cholesterol, and lowers triglicerides (all good steps). It helps metabolize cholesterol, fats, and protein. It prevents and lowers high blood pressure, improves cellular up-take of trace minerals, and lessens risk of age-related diseases. It increases strength and muscle mass, and may extend human life span by slowing the primary aging processes. It assists in weight loss by helping to build muscle at the expense of fat mass. It can eradicate existing cholesteral deposits in arteries, thereby, reversing arteriosclerosis and reducing chances of heart disease and stroke. Chromium may even help prevent some cancers. Non-toxic.

It is essential for diabetics as it improves glucose tolerance. Chromium is used to retard aging and delay the appearance of age related heart disease, adult-onset diabetes, and strokes. It helps prevent hypo- and hyper- glycemia. Athletes use it to prevent loss of chromium reserves during strenuous exercise. During pregnancy, its use protects the mother from depletion of her reserves. It is used to replace loss after surgery, and the stress of extreme heat or cold. Sugar and stress cause chromium loss. It is part of the Glucose Tolerance Factor (GTF), helping to bvreak up and dissolve excessive cholesterol adn triglycerides. The USDA reports that 90% of people get less chromium than they need.
