"If we say that we have no sin,
we deceive ourselves,
and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins,
he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins,
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If we say that we have not sinned,
we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."

Dido,

Why are people too afraid to face the consequence of their actions? How come they are afraid to face the music? If they were brave enough to disobey God, they should also be brave enough to endure due punishment. Why ask for forgiveness? That's a yellow badge of cowardice. You may express your remorse or regret, and that's about it. Forgiveness is actually what encourages the tribe of criminals to increase. Together with their disbelief in the existence of hell, God's forgiveness (as professed by certain religions) is what makes them bold.

I believe in God and try to do my best in obeying his commandments and following the right path in life. I also believe in the existence of hell and purgatory for the punishment of sinners, and in heaven for the reward of the virtuous. Like Wm. Ernest Henley, I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul (lifted from Invictus). I shall always worship and love God but I shall not ask for forgiveness in whatever sins I may have committed. If I deserve punishment, then so be it. I am at his disposal and I'll have to pay for it. While I have humility in being his humble servant, before others I have to keep my dignity. Shame on those transgressors that wantonly broke his commandments and then come begging for forgiveness.
Luckily, we have a just God, the Creator of heaven and earth, whom we all can trust.
His divine justice which comes to every person at the end of the latter's journey is what makes us say, "How great thou art!" Praise be to Him in the Highest!
