October 16th

Its all go for next weekends FA Vase for the majority
of Northern Counties East League clubs, however this
weekend it was the bread and butter league to play for.
Leaders Brigg sustained their position with a fine 3-0
win at Staveley, whilst chasing Hallam could only
manage a 2-1 home win against bottom club Buxton.Third
placed Nth Ferriby dropped two home points against the
improving Bradford based Thackley.
Sheffield scored a superb 3-0 away win at Selby,with
Cartledge 9 mins, Vine 35 mins, and Tomlinson on 62
minutes wrapping things up.
Denaby United won 3-2 at luckless Harrogate Railway,
the goals coming from the head of Watt, a debut goal
for Kenny, and an own goal, the Railway scorers were
Shaw and Gray.
In division one Goole lost this time at Mickleover
Sports 2-0, ans Winterton lost at home to Bridlington
Sports then sliding up to third place.Worsborough
Bridge pulled up to 4th with a 3-0 win against Hall
Road who are now 6th, whilst two goals from Billis
plus one each from Brown and Fox gave Harfield Main
a 4-1 win over Parkgate,Heywood scoring the Parkgate
goal.
Tye and Flynn were on terget for Yorkshire Amateur
against local rivals Tadcaster Albion.

October 23rd

FA Vase
Well we expected a shock somewhere and we got one, in
the shape of Hall Road Rangers who pulled off a great
victory against Armthorpe Welfare Palmer scoring in 92
and 102 minutes, after Richards had put Hall Road 1-0
up on 55 minutes, only for Smith to equalise on 72.
Smith pulled another back for Welfare on 104 minutes
but Hall Road hung on well.
A first half header from Paul Given saw Goole to the
good, against Castleton Gabriels, and Eccleshill took
care of former Vase winners Bridlington after extra
time the winner from a Sutcliffe penalty on 104 minutes.
Brigg Town romped home against Barrow Town Roche and
Ward scoring 2 goals each, Buckley adding the other.
Premier League
Liuversedge take top honours this week as they hit 6
against Harrogate Railway Carter and Toronczak putting
Liversedge 2-0 up at half time, Toronczak scored his
second and further goals from Glover,Dyson and Chris
Birkinshaw finished off Railway.
Sheffield continued their improvement with a 3-2 win
against Brodsworth Godber,Vine and Wood scoring for
clubPhillips and Radford netting for the visitors,
whilst Garforth let slip a 3-0 lead again this time
Portrey,Bray and Arkle scoring, but then let Hallam
back in with goals from Green and Owen, and even with
Burrows sent off Hallams Worsfield scored the third.
At Denaby Newey scored on 41 minutes to give them the
lead, but Cheetham equalised on 43, and Hopkinson put
in the winner on 51 minutes.
Ossett Albion went into a lead against Maltby through
Cowlett, but Main hit an equaliser in the second half
through Hawke.
Division One
Hatfield opened the scoring against Yorkshire Amateur
through Crudwell, but then a hatrick from Beardshaw &
two from Flynn gave Yorks the 5-1 win, whilst Tadcaster
raced to a 3-0 situation Duckworth 2, Watt one scoring,
Louth fought back through Appleyard a penalty, and
Jones but Albion hung on for the three points.

An interesting draw as so many of our sides compete with
Northern League sides, the big one ? Selby T v Beddlington
the heroes in the FA Cup and FA Vase last season, and at
least we will have a guarantee of two sides through to
the 3rd Round as Arnold meet Brigg, and Nth Ferriby take
on division one Pickering.

November 1st

Liversedge take top place this weekend with a 10-0 demo-
-lition of Harrogate Railway.Danny Toronczak hit six
goals and was substituted on 50 minutes,but the best
effort must go to Kenton who slotted the 10th goal, he took
the ball up in his own box,played 4 one-twos, then calmly
stroked the ball past the Railway keeper.Brigg Town do
however stay top as Buckley, & Bartlett scored the two
goals against Maltby Main, Glasshoughton saw off Thackley
1-0 with Elliott netting, Hallam went 1-0 down against
Ossett Albion Riordan 18 minutes and, Holmes levelled
but then Albion took controlWilkinson 2, and Wilcock put
Albion 4-1 up,Bradley in the 75th minute made it 5-1, &
a Worsfold goal pulled it to 5-2, North Ferriby won 4-0
with goals from Annan, and Flounders before half time,
Van Nikoladis, and Morris scoring afterwards.
A 17th minute Bray goal gave Garforth the points verses
Selby Town whilst Denaby United can thank Hodgeson,
Newey, and Kenny for their goals against Borrowash
Victoria Sambrook scoring for Vics.Eccleshill scored
through Burnham Ryan and Buchan for a 3-0 win over
Armthorpe Welfare.
In division one Flynn netted twice,and Bolton once as
Hall Road fell against Yorkshire Amateurs 3-0.Sidebottom
and Hiscock scored for Pontefract Collieries in their
2-2 draw at Worsborough Bridge.
At the top its no change as the top 2 trounced their
opposition respectively.

November 7th

Harrogate Railway managed their first win in 10 games
with goals fromDavey and Darvill against Staveley MW.
meanwhile Glasshoughton move closer to leaders Brigg
who lost at home to Hallam, with a 2-1 win at Denaby
Bramfield put denaby 1-0 up, then Dickinson and Clough
hit back to take the points,Liversedge are just behind
as the 2 goals from Toronczak, and one from Dyson were
enough to secure the win but Holmes and Ashruff made a
close encounter in the end,Flounders gave Nth Ferriby
the lead against Maltby but the Maltby side came back
to share the points,Garforth once again let slip a lead
Bambrook and Bray gave them a 2-0 lead, then Cheetham
with 2 pulled it back to 2-2, Ossett Albions' new man
at the helm,Stephenson saw his side go 3-0 down Cygan,
Phillips a penalty, and Amos before Gommersall pulled
one back, and finally in the Premier Division a Smith
goal pulled Armthorpe back to 1-1 against Sheffield.
In Division One Yorkshire Amateur recorded their 7th
win with goals from Little,Sheriffe,Downes, and
Beardshaw against Louth 4-0, whilst Gooles O'Donnell,
and Gibbon gave them a 2-1 over Rossington, and Blair
netted twice as Pontefract beat Glapwell.Finally a
late effort from Duckworth salvaged a point for
Tadcaster in a 4-4 draw with Hatfield main, Taylor,
Watt and fenton putting them 3-0 up prior to Main
fighting back to lead 4-3.

Gerry Quinn spoke this week of the anguish at leaving
Ossett Albion for NPL side Ashton Utd, replacing John
King, saying "I'm very sorry to leave Albion, but it
is a great chance for me" Quinn lead the club to last
seasons NCEL championship,Spephenson is the temporary
replacement and chairman Wrigglesworth has stated that
the Albion will not rush to appoint a replacement.
Pontefract Collieries 7 day approach for the highly
rated Duckworth has been recieved by Tadcaster but
they hope to hang on to him, Thackleys young player
Muller is undertaking trials at Sheffield Wednesday,
whilst Bray is highly thought of by a number of sides
as Garforth consider contracting the player.Cornelly
is set to join Emley from Ossett Albion whilst Hurst
could make the reverse trip.
Finally don't forget to phone teams for Saturday kick
off times as many are altering for the Scotland v
England match.

News November 13th

Sutcliffe the Eccleshill penalty taker ended any
hope that Guisborough had for a replay in the
FA Vase calmly slotting in.
United twice came back Taylor, Dolan, & Newsome
netting the replys, Ward 2,& Fuller the Guisborough
scorers,Briggs Ward scored 2 with Grocock the other
to give them a 3-1 at Arnold T, Cygan was on the
mark for Selby who should of done enough to beat
Beddlington Terriers,Boon the away side scorer.
Bootham scored on 32 minutes to give Hall Road
a 1-0 win over Peterlee and guarantee the furthest
that they have ever been in the Vase.
Goole however slipped out at Heanor, goals either
side of the half doing the damage.
In the league cup 4 were sent off at Worsborough
Needham scoring 3 and Hooley the other for the
homesters,Hope and Flynn the Yorkshire Amateur
scorers- the sending off-Harrison GK Worsborough
was first to go for handling outside the area,
Needham for abusive language, Driver Worsborough
and Oates for Yorkshire for fighting, all in the
last few minutes.
Davy opened the scoring for Railway on 2 minutes,
then scored again on 13,then Darvill hit the other
two.
Liversedge won through 3-0 Goldthorpe 2, and then
Dodsworth scoring.

November 14th

On Sunday although Pickering fought well, Nth
Ferriby were much the stronger an won 3-0 in the
FA Vase second round tie.

November 21st

Not a great deal of change in the League this week
however some interesting stories occurred.
Garforth T lost it at home against Brodsworth,and
they lead three times,Bray opened for Town with a
solo effort on 11 minutes,Perkins equalised on the
30 minute mark for Miners,then on 51 minutes a
free kick from the right was headed across the
face of the goal by Stephenson, for Bambrook to
volley in.But once again Miners came battling
back and also from a free kick Radford scored.
A Bambrook laid ball saw Arkle put Town 3-2 up,
that on 66 minutes, however two quick goals
Sambrook in the last 9 minutes gave Brodsworth
the three points.Alfreton gave Ossett Albion a
scare at Dimple Wells taking the lead on 7
minutes Anson the hero, but Gilbertson 28,32
minutes put Albion 2-1 up.Dooley was shortly
later sent off for handball, but the spot kick
was saved by Hood.The extra man told in the end
as in the last minute Cheetham equalised.
Denaby United had two sent off,Watt,and Peach
who had given United a lead on 65 minutes,
Thackley made the shortage count with goals from
Richardson, and Ashruff,whilst Eccleshill had
Taylor,Heppinstall,and Newton to thank for the
goals against Harrogate Darvill scoring for the
Railway.In Division One Fellows,Blair & Baxter
overturned a 2-0 defecit against Mickleover for
Pontefract to grab another win.Watt and Taylor
took the points for Parkgate at Tadcaster.

It can be confirmed that Liversedge have applied
to enter the Northern Premier League, final
placing permitting.
Farsley Celtic are still chasing Jamie Riordan
from Ossett Albion, a seven day notice entered.
Ashton United with former Albion boss Quinn at
the helm however is also looking to swoop.
Former Guiseley man now at Otley Town,Michael
Jordan is the target of Gilchrist Liversedges
boss,Duckworth of Tadcaster appears unlikely
to move to Pontefract however, as Albion have
put the young player on a contract, however
Linighan the Ossett Town keeper looks likely
to become a Pontefract player this week, and
finally Jason Ryan Eccleshill Utd, has signed
Unibond forms with Harrogate Town.

December 1st

Sorry we're late with all the news, so better late
then never and here goes-
A cracking 350+ turned out at theNorth Ferriby v
Brigg Town match to see the Ferriby win 4-1,it
was Barnwell that gave Greens a 12 minute lead,
only for Elstun to grab the equaliser for Brigg
on 15 minutes, and the match remained a hard fought
duel up until half time.
Then Greens took control Stead restoring their lead
on 49 minutes, and added his second on 75.
Flounders ensured the points with a close range
effort on 80 minutes.
Hallam have a Holmes double to thank for their win
against Staveley,Pickess, Green and Oxley with
the other three goals, Clark, Cluxton & Welsby
replying for Miners who never gave up,Glasshoughton
won 3-1 against Garforth goals from Dickinson,
Elliott & Rickers scoring, but Town mounted a
second half come back and only the sending off
of Firth prevented a further goal, Bambrook the
marksman for Garforth.
Liversedge won well against Sheffield after going
a goal down to Godber onn 7, Carter equalised on 18
minutes, Lawford scored Liversedges second on 44.
O'Hara made it 3-1 on 55,Dyson 4-1 on 64 minutes,
Godber pulled another back on 75 minutes, but the
Club having one sent off were never in with a real
chance, and Gilchrist wrapped it up in the last
minute 5-2.
Radford gave Brodsworth a lead against Ossett Albion
Calvert eualised later but Guest restored the lead
Ossett ran the second half and when Bradley made it
2-2 on 88 minutes fans breathed a sigh of relief.
But Brodsworth weren't finished and Alunchi grabbed
the third on the whistle.
Wright scored 2 for Thackley who beat Buxton 3-0,
whilst Brown and Erskine scored the Armthorpe goals
in their 2-1 win against A;lfreton.
A 38th minute free kick gave Goole the points in
the match against Bridlington, Needham scored the
only goal for Worsaborough against Yorkshire Ams,
Dring scored four as Parkgate hammered Tadcaster
6-0, Blair, Sidebottom, & Hissocks hit the goals
for Pontefract as they won 3-1 against Glapwell.

December 4th
FA Vase
In the big match North Ferriby fell at Bedlington on a
freezing cold afternoon.Leading 1-0 through Nikoliadis
and in control of the match, a quick equaliser saw
the writing on the wall,Bond the Terriers scorer.
On 44 minutes a Walton OG didn't help things, and in
the second half with Wood sent off Middleton on 88
minutes wrapped it up for the dominant second half
Beddlington Terriers.
Meanwhile Ossett Albion were sweetly hammerring Anstey
Nomads, Gomersal took 3 goals, the first on 16 minutes
from a Trevit cross, the second a scrambled effort,the
third after Nomads had pulled one back to make it 2-1
on 73 minutes,whilst Bradley on 88, and Braime from the
spot after Gomersal was upended on time to ensure a
heroic 5-1 win.
In the Premier division Sheffield were the top scorers
ramming 5 past Thackley. Utley opened on 32 minutes,
marksman Godber hit in on 44 & 47 minutes, whilst Hawke
and an own goal completed the 5 goal rout.
Neighbours Hallam can thank Pickles, a goal on 83 mins
to move them closer to Brigg Town.
Liversedge substitute Coronczak scored twice in the
last 10 minutes to ensure Liversedge 3 points at
Garforth after Dyson opened.
In Division One Dring 59 mins, and Reynolds 70 minutes
secured the points for Parkgate v Worsborough Bridge
and this after a missed Bridge penalty.

December 12th
A weekend which saw much of the Premier Division
washed out, whilst the majority of the First survive.
In the Premier Division Armthorpe shook Brodsworth in
a 4-1 winBishop opened on 9 minutes for Brodsworth,
however goals from Johnson, and Brown gave welfare
a 2-1 advantage, a brace from Ridley settled things,
in the last six minutes.In the Harrogate Railway v Buxton
match Wright opened for the Rail, then with Hunter sent
off extra numbers helped Buxton into a 2-1 lead, before
Emptage pulled it back to 2-2.
Houghton, and Severn scored the Goole goals that kept
their top position intact against Tadcaster,Hall Road
did well at Parkgate drawing 3-3, Balmfield, Smith, and
Dring scoring for Parkgate,Wainman, and Palmer netting
for Rangers and an 89 minute penalty strike by Richards
ensuring a share of the spoils.As for Pontefract a Blair
effort ensured a 1-1 draw at Hatfield Main, and Gibson
scored twice for Bridlington Town in their 2-0 win over
Borrowash Victoria.

December 18th
Many postponements again this week but un the first
division rather than premier division this week.
Brigg went back to to pole position with a 2-1 win over
Liversedge Roache and Knight the scorers, whilst
North Ferriby pulled in closer to the top, a 3-1 win
ensuring the points against Staveley MW,Morris,
Armstead, and Sharpe the Ferriby scorers, whilst
Newton replied for the MW, Ossetts match survived
the weather thanks to help from the fans, and a 3-1
win ensured.
However Thackley lead on 19 minutes, Sayer the
scorer, but Joyce set up Hirst to score on 30 mins,
a lob/shot from Gilbertson just prior to half time put
Albion 2-1 up, and Whiteley made sure on 75 minutes.
James Gray the new scoring hero at Denaby hit the
winner against Garforth at Towns home patch, and
that sealed the win after 46 minutes.
In division one it was Taylor who hit a brace for
Tadcaster Albion in a 2-1 against PickeringTown.

Other News
Calls are going out for the county cups to be reorganised
as the interest is deminishing.Clubs such as bradford PA
and Frickley all lost money in the early rounds of county
cups, and plans are being drawn up on re organisation.
Paul Marshall Harrogate Railways boss will find out over
christmas if he is to be retained or not.
A boardroom decision will be made in view of the results
so far this season, many are lined up as possible as
replacement.

January 2000
The second half of the season kicks off this weekend with
most clubs at full strength, thanks to the christmas break.
Yorkshire Amateurs begin the second half campaign without
a manager as Fred Cliff quit over the break,
Meanwhile Ossett Albion,Eccleshill United and Alfreton Town
will carry the NCE League hopes into the next round in the FA
Vase on January 22nd.
