Cameron threw open the door to Chris's room.
"Hey, Cam... you know... you could have knocked. I mean, what if I were
dressing or something...?"
Cameron cut him off. "Did you tell Joey I have feelings for him?" She asked
angrily.
Chris looked as if he were a little boy caught with his hand in the cookie
jar. "...Cameron, I was only trying to help..."
"Help? How could that help?"
He fumbled through his words. "I didn't want you to be upset so I told him
that maybe he should lay off the talking about Victoria so much..."
"Great. That is just great!" She yelled. "Well, Joey just hit on me.."
"He WHAT?" Chris was shocked. "I didn't think he was going to do that! What
did you do?"
"Well, I yelled at him and then I left."
"But you told me that..."
"You know what gets me the most about this whole thing?"
"What?" Chris asked timidly.
"I never got a chance to finish. I mean... Joey walked in and I really
couldn't say anything else..... The thing is... I USED to have feelings for
Joey. For a long time, too, but that's over. I realized it the last time I
saw you guys. Joey's my best friend and that's all he's ever been... I don't
think I ever REALLY had feelings for him, it was more like he was my best
friend who just HAPPENED to be good looking..."
"You said you were jealous of Victoria, though?" Chris questioned.
"I was... at first... But I think that the reason I was jealous was because
I was worried that she would take my place.... and he wouldn't need me as a
best friend anymore."
"She can never take your place, Cam. I mean, who's he gonna talk to when he
and Victoria get in a fight? He can't tell her about it... He'll tell you!"
Cameron stared at the floor. 'He does have a point' she thought.
"So, you honestly don't have feelings for Joey?"
"No. I don't." She smiled halfway and walked back to her room.
Joey stomped into his room. "Chris.... What's going on, man?" He asked
angrily.
Chris pretended to laugh. "It's actually VERY funny... you see... You just
walked in too early and it turns out... Cameron doesn't like you... like
that."
"You're kidding me?" Joey said sarcastically.
"You wanna know what I think?" Chris asked.
"Probablly not considering that this mess happened because I listened to
what you THOUGHT!" Joey yelled.
Chris ignored the comment and continued. "I think that you always knew about
the crush.... you just never wanted to admit it. I think you always had
Cameron kind of waiting just out of reach in case things didn't work out in
a relationship.... But now she's over it, Joey. She's grown up. She's moved
on. I think you should too."
Part Four
JC knocked on Cameron's door. No one answered. He knocked a second time and
still there was no answer. Getting a little worried, he decided to open the
door and walk in. To his surprise, there was Cameron, frantically packing
her bags. She looked up at JC silently, then continued packing.
"What are you doing?" JC asked, almost angrily.
"What does it look like I'm doing, JC?" Cameron snapped.
"Well, it LOOKS like your getting ready to leave but that can't be..."
Cameron continued rummaging through her things. "And why is that?"
"Because you're staying here with us...."
Cameron cut him off. "I cannot stay here another day!"
"Why not?" JC was curious.
"Because JC..." Cameron began, angrily, "I have caused WAY too many problems
already and this is only my first day here! AND I don't want to stay here
and cause EVEN MORE problems for Lance, Chris... and you."
"What problems have you caused?" JC asked, sitting down on the bed that all
of Cameron's bags were laying on.
Cameron was very frustrated. "You wanna know about the problems I've caused
JC??? I'll tell you about the problems I've caused!!!" She paused only to
breath, then continued. "Problem number ONE: This morning, Justin comes into
my room and tells me about his girlfriend and how she wanted to say 'I love
you' but he wasn't ready.... SO, being the idiot that I am, I give him
advice..... and what does he do? He actually listens to it! When has Justin
ever listened to any advice I've given him, huh? Anyway, the point is that
she broke up with Justin because he followed my advice. So, It's really my
fault that they broke up..."
JC interrupted her. "Justin and Kat have been having problems for a while,
Cam. It was bound to happen sooner or later...."
"Wait, JC! I'm not done!" Cameron cut him off. "Problem number TWO: I tell
Chris that at first I was a little bit jealous of the fact that Joey had a
girlfriend, but I never got to finish what I was saying and Chris told Joey.
So, Joey hit on me! Not only does that cause problems between us, but it
causes problems for him and Victoria! And that's all my fault, too!"
plopped down on the bed across from JC.
"That wasn't your fault, either, Cameron. Joey shouldn't have done that, no
matter how you feel about him. He just wasn't thinking...not with his head
anyway."
"Does he ever?" Cameron said sarcastically.
They both snickered at that comment which was followed by an awkward
silence.
"The thing is... this all happened for nothing... I mean, I don't even have
feelings for Joey."
"Really?" JC asked, surprised.
"Really... I haven't for a while now."
"How come?" He asked softly, starting to lean in towards her.
Cameron hesitated. "....Because...there's someone else that I care about
like that..." She leaned in toward him.
"Who?" JC asked even softer. He leaned in closer.
Cameron leaned in and closed her eyes.
They were about to kiss when JC suddenly stood up. He began to walk towards
the door. Cameron stared at the ground, somewhat embarrassed and confused.
JC spoke softly, his back toward her. "Will you stay?"
Cameron nodded her head, not looking up at him.
"Cam..." He paused. ".....Joey's really confused and scared right now. What
he really needs is someone he can talk to about this. He needs someone to
help him figure things out. What he needs is his best friend."
Cameron walked into Joey's room.
"Hey." She said reluctantly.
Joey was sitting on his bed resting his head in his hands, his elbows
leaning on his knees.
He didn't look up at her. "I'm such a jerk..."
"Yeah, you are," Cameron stated calmly, "but that's the reason we're best
friends, Joey. I mean... whenever we let each other down.... we always make
it up to each other somehow."
Joey didn't say anything.
"We've been through a lot together. And as mad as I WANT to be at you right
now... I can't...."
Joey hesitated. "How can you forgive me so quickly, Cameron? I don't know
what I was thinking... but that still doesn't change the fact that.... that
I tried to take advantage of you."
"I know. Believe me, I do.... It's just that... we've been friends for
almost seven years now, Joe... and we've done things worse than this... we
can't let this ruin our friendship."
Cameron waited a few minutes for a reply, but didn't get one. She grabbed
the handle on the door to leave.
"....I'm glad that you never told me, Cam."
Cameron was confused.
Joey continued. "When I said we should just be friends back in high school,
I didn't mean it. I was scared and I didn't think you liked me like that
very much... That's why I broke it off. I didn't want you to do it
first..... But, I'm glad that I did... and I'm glad that you never told me
how you felt because if you did, we probably would have gotten together and
then we would have had to break up sometime.... and we probably wouldn't be
best friends now..."
Cameron smiled at him. "Yeah. I never thought of it that way."
She walked over to him.
"Friends?" He asked.
"Friends." She replied. "BEST friends."
They hugged.
"I just hope that Victoria can be as forgiving as you..."
Chris walked into the hotel room. Seeing Joey and Cameron hugging, Chris
yelled, "Woah! Woah! Woah! What are you two doing???"
Cameron and Joey couldn't help but laugh at him.
"We're not DOING anything." Cameron replied. "We were just hugging."
"Oh!" Chris said, feeling much better. "So, you guys worked everything out?"
Joey replied, "Yeah."
"Great! Glad to hear it. I'm going to bed. You guys can talk some more if
you want, just be quiet, okay?"
They nodded their heads and started talking again.
"How should I tell her?" Joey asked Cameron, referring to Victoria.
"I don't know, Joey. This is one time when I honestly have no advice for
you. I have no idea how she's going to take the news... Plus, the advice
I've been giving lately has, apparently, not been the best."
Somehow Joey and Cameron got into a conversation about all of the stupid
things they had done together before. They were talking loudly and laughing
hysterically. It was now three o'clock in the morning.
Chris was furious. "Will you guys please SHUT UP? I need my sleep! Joey,
we've got a photo shoot in the morning!!!"
They both nodded.
"Sorry." Joey replied.
They tried to talk softer but ended up talking louder and laughing again.
Chris was very grouchy. "I've had it!" He yelled and threw the extra pillow
from his bed at them. "I'm going to sleep in Justin's room!"
Chris stomped out of the room and slammed the door.
Joey and Cameron continued talking. Cameron found herself telling Joey about
what had happened when JC was in her room.
"Cameron... the thing is... it's been a while since JC has been in a serious
relationship. The last one he was in didn't turn out so well, either....
He's probably just scared to get into another serious relationship."
"Maybe I'm just not the one he wants..." Cameron said, sadly.
"Oh, please! What's there not to like? You're sweet, funny, loyal, caring,
pretty... He's an idiot if he doesn't."
Cameron shrugged her shoulders, still not convinced. "Thanks, Joe."
He nodded and looked down at his watch. "Wow! It's 4:30 in the morning!"
"You're kidding me! Oh, yeah, you've got that photo shoot in the morning.
You'd better get your sleep." Cameron replied, standing up.
"I'm not tired." Joey yawned. "Superman doesn't need sleep."
Cameron laughed. "Sure he does... Good night!"
"G'night."
Cameron opened the door and walked back to her hotel room.
Part Five
The next morning the guys had to be at their photo shoot at eight o'clock.
Chris, Joey and Justin were extremely crabby with huge bags under their
eyes. JC and Lance, on the other hand, were wide awake.
"You guys aren't TIRED, are you?" Lance joked.
"Hey! Don't mess with me this morning!" Justin replied. "It's not my fault
Chris woke me up in the middle of the night...."
"Well, it's not MY fault! Joey and Cameron were in my room just laughing
away and being as loud as they POSSIBLY could!" Chris remarked defensively.
"She's lucky. She's back at the hotel sleeping right now! It's all HER
fault!"
"Oh, sure! Blame Cameron. She's not here!" JC said sarcastically.
"Chill, JC! I was just joking...." Joey replied. It made him happy to see JC
get so defensive about Cameron.
They got back to the hotel around eleven and Cameron was still asleep in her
room. Joey went to the main desk in the lobby.
"Hi." He said to the desk clerk. "I think I might have locked my key in my
room by accident, you don't have a spare or something by any chance, do
you?"
"What room is it?" The woman asked.
"Ummm... room... 261." He replied with a sheepish smile.
"I'll make you a deal. My niece has the biggest crush on you. Could I get
your autograph for her?"
"Sure." He signed a piece of paper for the woman then grabbed the key and
ran upstairs.
Joey ran into his room and grabbed his extremely loud alarm clock that made
the sound of a rooster crowing when it went off.
He quietly unlocked the door to Cameron's room and set the alarm clock on
the night stand right next to her head, turning it up as loud as it could
go. After setting the alarm, he rushed out of the room and stood outside
next to the door.
Two minutes later the alarm clock went off. Cameron screamed and slammed the
"off" button. She ran out of the room yelling, "JOEY FATONE THAT WAS NOT
FUNNY!"
Joey stood in the hallway laughing hysterically. Cameron ran up to him,
jumped on his back, and gave him a nuggee.
"How do you like that, huh?" She joked.
Joey continued laughing. "Quit messing with my hair!"
Cameron jumped down and stood in front of Joey with her hands on her hips,
trying to look angry.
Joey laughed harder. "You should have seen your face when you came running
out here! It was HILARIOUS!"
"Oh yeah? Well, I'll get you back, Joey. Just you wait!"
"Hey, we're going to get some lunch pretty soon, so get ready alright? I
figured if I got you up now you'd be ready by one." He joked.
"HAHA." She said sarcastically.
"I don't understand why it takes girls so long to get ready!"
Cameron flicked her hair at him and went back into her room.
Joey walked over to Lance and Justin who had rushed out into the hall when
they heard the screaming.
They both gave him a funny look.
"What? Is my hair really messed up?"
They laughed at him.
"Guys, I've gotta look good. Victoria's coming in a few hours!" He paused.
"I have a feeling this is going to be the LONGEST day of my life."
They left for lunch at 12:30.
Chris wouldn't stop talking about how excited he was that Megan would be
there in a few hours. They had been friends since they were kids.
Joey was pretty quiet at lunch. He kept trying to figure out how he was
going to tell Victoria about his mistake.
JC was very quiet at lunch. He hardly said two words. He was trying to avoid
Cameron.
Cameron was her usual, talkative self but was also trying to avoid JC.
She was still a little embarrassed about what happened the night before.
Lance, Justin, and Cameron were playing six degrees of Kevin Bacon while
they waited for their food. Suddenly, Lance was silent, staring across the
room.
"Earth to Lance!" Justin waved his hand in front of Lance's face.
"It's the girl." Lance said quietly.
"What girl?" Justin asked.
"The one I saw at the hotel.... she's sitting in that booth over there."
"You should go talk to her." Cameron suggested.
"You think so?" Lance asked.
"Couldn't hurt." She replied.
"You know what? I think I will." He said, standing up from the table and
straightening his clothes.
He began walking slowly over to the table. Practicing in his head what he
would say.
Another guy walked in front of him and sat down in the booth across from the
girl. Lance turned around and walked back to the table.
"What's wrong?" Justin asked as Lance sat back down.
"She's got a boyfriend." He replied, upset.
"That's not necessarily her boyfriend... he could just be a friend or
something..." Cameron tried to help.
Lance looked over at the table.
The guy and girl stood up from their seats. He kissed her on the cheek, then
they walked out of the restaurant.
Lance gave Cameron an angry look. "That's not her boyfriend, huh?"
Cameron smiled at him apologetically.
"Maybe he wasn't..." She tried to change the subject quickly. "So, let's
see.... back to our game..."
They headed back to their hotel after lunch.
Joey and Chris frantically prepared for Victoria and Megan to arrive. The
others tried to stay out of their way.
Everyone was in the hallway to greet Victoria and Megan when they arrived
around 2:30. Victoria ran up to Joey and gave him a big hug. She went to
give him a kiss on the lips but he turned his head so that she would only
kiss his cheek. He felt terrible about what he had done and he didn't want
to kiss her until he told her the whole story.
Victoria was a little embarrassed that everyone had seen what happened but
she shook it off.
"So, how have you been, Megan?" Cameron asked as she gave Megan a hug.
"Pretty good. School's been crazy!" Megan replied.
"Yeah. For me too!" Cameron smiled.
"You must be Cameron." Victoria said happily.
Cameron tried not to make eye contact. She felt really bad about what had
happened, too. "That's me." She tried to sound as cheerful as possible.
"I'm Victoria, Joey's girlfriend."
"I've heard SO much about you. Joey hasn't stopped talking about you."
Cameron tried to help Joey out a bit.
Victoria replied, "Likewise."
"So, what have you all been up to?" Megan asked.
Chris cleared his throat loudly, trying to signal to Megan to be quiet.
"Lots of... stuff..."
Joey turned to Victoria. "Let's go to my room. I need to talk to you."
"Joey, I just got here. I kinda wanted to get to know Cameron better and
catch up with the guys for a little while."
"Believe me. We REALLY need to talk. You can do all that later...."
"Okay..." Victoria replied.
"I'll get you settled in." Chris walked Megan over to her room.
Cameron, Justin, Lance, and JC all headed to Cameron's room.
"We've all got... stuff to do..." They blurted out.
Joey sat Victoria down.
"Honey... there's something I have to tell you...."
