Chapter 15
Friday night....
Tallia was a bundle of nerves. Kristina sat on Tallia’s bed trying to calm her down.
“Why did I say I would meet him? What if he
doesn’t like me? Why
can’t I find anything to where?” Tallia’s room looked
like a hurricane
hit it. There were discarded clothes everywhere.
“Lia, calm down! You’ll be fine. I’ll be there
with you. You look
beautiful, just slow down!” Kristina laughed. Tallia gave her friend a grateful look.
“I’m sorry, Kristina. I’m so nervous. He’s really a nice guy, and he’s so funny!!” Tallia said.
“Why don’t you put on the black skirt and the blue
top, that looked
really cute,” Kristina suggested. Tallia did as her
friend suggested, then
finished her makeup and hair. She glanced at the
clock.
“We’d better go, before we’re late!” They headed
out to Kristina’s
car. Once inside, Tallia asked, “Are you sure Chris
doesn’t mind me
stealing you away for the night?”
“I’m sure. He said he was doing something with
JC,” she said.
When they pulled up outside the ‘Jade Palace,’ Tallia
took a deep
breath and opened the car door. Kristina came around
to her side of
the car. She grabbed Tallia’s hand and gave it a
reassuring squeeze.
“You ready?”
“As I’ll ever be,” Tallia said. They walked into
the restaurant.
“I’ll be right back. I have to use the ladies
room,” Kristina said.
Tallia nodded. She surveyed the room, looking for a
guy holding a
white rose. Something caught her eye. She walked
over to the table.
“Chris? What are you doing here?”
“I’m here with JC. We’re meeting one of his
friends,” he said.
“Oh. That’s nice. I’m here with Kristina,” she
said.
“Where is she?”
“She’s in the ladies room.”
“So, just a girls night out?”
“No, actually I’m meeting someone for the first
time, and I brought
Kristina along as my bodyguard,” Tallia said, with a
smile. “Do you
see a guy here with a white rose?”
Chris just stared at Lia. No, it couldn’t be. JC
just went to buy a
white rose for the girl he was supposed to be meeting.
What are the
odds, that the girl will be Lia? he thought. He
shook his head and
smiled. “What’s the guy’s name?”
“Josh,” she said.
That confirmed Chris’s suspicions. He didn’t say
anything to Lia.
“Why don’t you sit down, I wanna go and surprise
Kristina.” He got
up and headed for the restrooms. When Kristina came out, he grabbed her and pulled her aside.
“Hey,....” Chris put his hand over her mouth. Then
he turned her
around to face him. “Chris, what are you doing here?”
“I’m here with JC, we’re meeting his friend here.
You’re not gonna
believe this.”
“Try me,” she said.
“His friend is none other than, Lia,” Chris said.
Kristina just looked
at him, stunned.
“You mean all this time, Lia has been talking about this guy and it has been JC?” she asked.
“Yeah. JC has been talking about this girl, Tally.
He didn’t want to
be set up with Lia, because of Tally.”
“Her real name is Tallia. Oh, how funny!” Kristina said. Chris led Kristina over to the table.
“Hey guys! I don’t see a guy with a white rose, do
you?” Tally
asked. She hoped she wasn’t being stood up.
“Why don’t you go and look over in the other side
of the restaurant,”
Chris said. Tallia got up and walked to the other
side of the restaurant.
It was divided for smokers and non smokers.
JC rushed into the restaurant, knowing he was late.
He had wanted
to pick the perfect white rose to give to Tally. When
he reached his
table, he saw Chris sitting with Kristina.
“Hey Kristina. What are you doing here?” he asked.
“I’m here with Lia. She’s meeting a friend,” she
said, with a
secretive smile.
JC glanced around. “Where is she?”
“She’s looking for him.” Kristina looked up and
nudged Chris. This
was their exit cue. “Uh, I have to uh, go put change in the parking meter.”
“I have to uh, uh, go to the bathroom,” Chris said.
They both got up.
They barely made it outside before they started
laughing. They looked
in the window, so they could see the reactions of
their two friends,
when they realized what had happened.
Chapter 16
Tallia walked back into the other side of the
restaurant. She spied a
guy sitting at a table, with his back to her. He had
a white rose sitting
beside him. She walked up to the table.
“Josh?” JC heard a familiar voice ask him. He
picked up the rose and
stood up. When he turned around, he was dumbfounded.
There stood
Lia.
“Lia? What are you doing here?”
“JC?” Tallia looked at JC. “You’re Josh?”
“That’s my first name. Your Tally?”
“Lia’s one of my nick names,” she said.
“This is for you,” he said, handing her the white
rose. She took it
and brought it to her nose.
“It’s beautiful. Thank you,” she said. JC pulled out her chair and she sat down.
“I can’t believe it,” JC said.
Outside....
Kristina and Chris laughed at the expressions on
their friends’ face.
They looked at each other, then walked to Kristina’s
car. They didn’t
think that JC and Tallia would mind if they left.
“I can’t believe you’re the girl on the phone that
I...” he stopped.
“What? That you what, Josh?”
“That I fell for. It was so hard when I met you at
Davette’s house,
you were so beautiful, but I already liked ‘someone
else,’ or so I
thought,” he smiled. “Who would have thought that the
wrong number
that I call, that was actually the right number, would
lead to this?”
“I’m glad. I tried to tell myself not to fall for
you on the phone, but it
didn’t work. I’m really wary of guys, after Mike.”
“Speaking of which, have you had any more trouble
with him?”
“Nope. The trial is in a week and a half, though.
I’m glad the girls
are gonna be there for support,” she said.
“I would like to come, if that’s ok with you,” he
said.
“Are you sure? You don’t have to,” she said.
“I want to be there for you,” he said. They were
interrupted by the
waiter, with their food.
“I would love to have you there, then,” she said.
They talked
through the meal, when they finished they paid and
left the restaurant
hand in hand. When they got to JC’s car, they finally
noticed that Chris
and Kristina were gone. JC offered to give Tallia a
ride home. She
didn’t hesitate to get in and give him directions to
her house. She knew
instinctively that she could trust him. When they got
to her apartment,
she invited him up. They hadn’t noticed the car following them from the restaurant.
When they got to her apartment, Tallia went into
the kitchen to get
something to drink. “Do you want something to drink, Josh, I mean JC?” she asked.
“You can still call me Josh. No one else does, and
I like it when you
do,” he said. “I’ll have whatever you’re having.”
Tallia grabbed two
drinks and went into the living room. JC was seated on the couch, so she sat down beside him.
“Do you want to watch tv?” she asked.
“Sure, what have you got?” he asked. Tallia got
down on the floor
and looked at her movie collection. JC followed her.
“How about ‘Titanic’?” he said. Tallia gave him a
funny look.
“I can’t believe you picked that one. Most guys would have picked something else,” she said.
“It’s the longest movie you have,” he said. He
ducked his head. “I
want to spend as much time with you tonight as I can.”
He leaned in
towards Tallia. She leaned forward and shut her eyes.
His lips met
hers and she felt a jolt. She knew, somehow, that
this kiss would be
wonderful. When they pulled apart, they were both
breathing fast.
Tallia put the movie in. JC laid down on the couch
and Tallia laid in
front of him. He put his arm around her and settled back to watch the movie.
“I’m glad you picked this movie, Josh,” she said.
He leaned over and
kissed her. They were interrupted when the phone rang. Tallia got up to answer the phone.
“Hello?”
“How’d your date with Josh go?” asked Kiera.
“I don’t know, it’s not over yet,” she said.
“He’s there? Now?” Kiera asked.
“Yeah. Have you talked to Kristina?”
“No, why?”
“Well, I was wondering if she told you what
happened when Josh and
I first met?”
“Not a clue,” Kiera said.
“Oh, you’re gonna love this. Josh turned out to be
really cute! He
goes by a different name around most people though.”
“Um, ok. I’m not following you.”
“Just listen. Josh is actually JC,” she paused to
let it sink in.
“Huh?”
“Josh and JC are one and the same. The same guy.”
Tallia heard
Kiera burst out laughing.
“This is unbelievable!” Kiera said. “This is
awesome! JC is a really
nice guy! I’d better let you go, so you can get back to Josh/JC. Justin is gonna love this!”
“Good bye, Kiera,” she said.
“Bye, hun. Be good!” Tallia hung up the phone and
went back over
to the couch.
“Who was that?” JC asked.
“Kiera. She got a kick out of the whole JC/Josh
thing. At least you
know I’m not with you for your looks!” she teased.
“They’re just an
added bonus,” she said, and leaned over and kissed
him. They settled
back and watched the rest of the movie
After the movie was over, they sat up and looked at
each other.
“Well, I should probably get going,” JC said.
“I don’t want you to leave,” Tallia said. “But, I know it’s best if you do.”
“I’ll call you tomorrow,” he said. Tallia got up
and followed him to
the door. When they reached the door, JC turned
around and pulled
her into his arms. He bent his head for a gentle
kiss. He pulled back
and looked into her eyes, “I can’t believe how lucky I
am.”
“Me either,” Tallia said. JC opened the door and
Tallia watched as
he disappeared down the hallway.

Chapter 17
The day of the trial....
JC was sitting on Tallia’s couch with her cradled
in his arms. He
didn’t want her to have to go through this, but if it
would put Mike
away, then he knew she had to.
“Tally, it’s time to go,” he said. He was driving
her to the
courthouse. Tallia’s friends were meeting them there.
When they got
to the courthouse, JC got out of his Cherokee and went
around and
opened Tallia’s door. He took her hand and gave her a
comforting
squeeze. Tallia took a deep breath and entered the
courtroom. Tallia
went got through her testimony of how Mike had beat
her. When she
returned to her seat, she felt a weight lift off her
shoulders. JC just
glared at Mike, the hatred shining in his eyes. The
trial was a short
one.
Since this was Mike’s third assault offense, the
judge was tough on
him. He was ordered to serve five years. He turned
around and glared
at Tallia. She felt a shiver go through her body.
She knew she was
safe for the time being. Mike was going to jail,
where he belonged.

Chapter 18
Two and a half months later, on tour with JC and the
guys....
Tallia hugged her friends, they were going back to
Orlando. They had
to start college, again. Tallia would be staying with
JC until they
returned to Orlando in two weeks. Over the last two
months Tallia and
JC had gotten closer. All of the guys were wonderful.
They all had so
much fun together. Tallia felt so safe with JC, she
knew she could trust
him. She was in love with him. She hadn’t said the
words out loud
yet, but she was sure he knew how she felt.
The concert that night was energy packed. When JC
came off stage
and hugged her, he was completely drenched in sweat.
She kissed him
on the cheek then sent him to his dressing room to
change.
When they got back to their hotel room, the message
light was
flashing on the phone. Tallia picked it up and dialed
the front desk.
“Front desk, this is Charlene.”
“Hi this is room 208. We have a message?”
“Yes. You are supposed to call Kiera,” the
operator said.
“Thank you,” Tallia said, and hung up the phone.
“So, what was the message?” JC asked.
“I’m supposed to call Kiera,” she said.
“Oh. Well, I’m gonna go and take a quick shower,”
JC said, and he
leaned down to kiss her.
Tallia picked up the phone and dialed Kiera’s
number.
“Hello?”
“Hey Kiera. What’s up?”
“Oh, hi Lia,” Kiera said, hesitating.
“Is something wrong, Kiera?”
“I want you to sit down.”
“I am,” she laughed, nervously. She didn’t know
what was going on,
but Kiera was making her nervous.
“When we got back, we found out that Mike’s
conviction was
overturned on a technicality. He’s out of jail.”
“What?” Tallia asked. She began to shake. “How
did this happen?”
“I don’t know, something about police error.”
“Oh, my god. What am I going to do? You know he’s
going to be
looking for me,” she said. “I have to go, Kiera.
I’ll call you later.”
She never let Kiera respond, she just hung up the
phone. She sat on
the bed in shock. She was still sitting there when JC
came out of the
bathroom with only a towel wrapped around his waist.
“Tally? What’s wrong?” JC asked. She was
completely white and
staring off into space. JC went over to her and
pulled her into his arms.
“I’m sorry JC. I should never have let you get
involved in this,” she
said. JC looked at her, confused.
“What, Tally?”
“Mike’s out of jail. His conviction was overturned
on a technicality,”
she said. “How can this happen? I know he’s guilty.
I was there,
when he was beating me. Where’s the justice in that?
Apparently the
criminals ‘rights’ were violated. What about my
rights? I can’t believe
this!” JC wrapped his arms around her and held her
tight. She
wrapped her arms around him and cried. It was all so
unfair. Mike
was let go, because of some mistake someone had made.
It didn’t
mean he didn’t commit the crime. She didn’t
understand how the law
worked.
“I’m sorry, JC. I never wanted to drag you into
the middle of this,”
she sniffled.
“Hey, you didn’t drag me anywhere I didn’t already
want to go,” he
said.
“What am I going to do?”
“Hey, you aren’t in this alone. You have me and
the guys and your
friends. We’ll always be here for you,” he said.
“Thanks, Josh,” she smiled, weakly. She felt so
safe in his arms. She
didn’t want to be any place right now, other than his
arms.

Chapter 19
The last night of the tour....
Tallia told herself that tonight she was not going
to think about Mike.
This was her and JC’s night. After the concert,
Tallia and JC went to a
late supper. Tallia knew tonight was going to be
special. After dinner,
they went back to the hotel. Even though Tallia and
JC had been
sleeping in the same bed for the last two weeks, they
had never gone
beyond kissing and touching.
JC turned to her when the entered the hotel room.
He took her in his
arms and ever so gently, kissed her.
“I want to put something on, that I bought today,”
she told him. JC
kissed her, again, and then watched her walk into the
bathroom. He
walked over to the stereo and turned on some music.
He was still
messing around with the stereo when he heard the
bathroom door
open. He turned around.
“You’re so beautiful,” he said. Tallia walked
towards JC and he met
her halfway. They spent the rest of the night making
love.

Two weeks later....
Tallia had started to relax, a little bit. She had
been home for two
weeks, and she had not had a run in with Mike.
Tonight she and JC
were going to dinner for their four month anniversary.
Tallia had no
idea what JC had in store for her. He was being
really secretive. All he
told her, was to dress up. She didn’t mind, though,
as long as she got
to be with JC, she would be happy.
JC would be here any minute, now. Tallia gave
herself one last look
in the mirror. The buzzer rang.
“Yes?”
“It’s me, Tally,” she heard JC say.
“I’ll be right down.” She grabbed her purse and
walked out the door.
When she got downstairs, she saw JC holding four white
roses. She
walked over to him and he handed her the roses.
“They’re beautiful. Thank you,” she said, and gave
him a kiss.
“Shall we go?” he put his arm out and tucked
Tallia’s hand into the
crook of his arm. They walked out to the car.
Neither of them noticed
the car across the street with the occupant staring at
them.
The evening flew by. JC had taken Tallia out to
dinner at an
exclusive restaurant, then he took her dancing. By
the time they got
back to Tallia’s apartment, it was late. Tallia had a
feeling of
something being not quite right, but she shook it off.
She was just
nervous about Mike being out of jail. She didn’t want
anything to ruin
this night.
Tallia let herself and JC into the apartment.
“Hello, Tallia.” Tallia felt the color drain from
her face. She
squeezed JC’s hand.
“M-m-m-mike, how did you get in here?” she asked.
“I have my ways,” he said. His voice was eerily
calm. “Get over
there.” He pointed to the couch. Tallia noticed, for
the first time, that
he held a gun. JC and Tallia went and sat down on the
couch. “So,
this is who you’re fucking now. You slut!” he yelled.
“She’s not a slu...” JC tried to say, but was
stopped when Mike
slugged him.
“Stop it, you bastard!” Tallia screamed. He turned
on her and
slapped her across the face. He went to slap her
again, but was
stopped, when JC grabbed his arm. He turned and
shoved JC across
the room.
“Stay down, fucker, or the next time, I’ll shoot
you,” Mike said. JC
just looked Mike in the eye and stood up. Mike lifted
the gun and
pointed it at JC. Tallia lunged at Mike, right as he
fired the gun. The
shot missed JC. Mike shoved her aside and took aim
again. Tallia
lunged for him again, but this time, she was too late.
JC’s body lurched
when the bullet hit him.
“Noooooo! Josh!” Tallia made a move to go to JC,
but Mike held
her back.
“I don’t think so, bitch.” He grabbed her arm and
spun her around to
face him. He backhanded her.
“Stop it. I hate you! Why are you doing this?”
she asked.
“It’s your fault. You brought this on yourself,”
he said. Tallia knew
he had completely lost his mind. Mike made Tallia sit
on the couch,
while he figured out what he was going to do. It
wasn’t long before
Tallia heard someone knocking on her apartment door.
“This is the police, open the door!”
“Help me!”
“Open the door! We will break the door down if you
don’t open it!”
Silence. Tallia heard her door cracking and Mike
grabbed her and held
her in front of him. He pointed the gun at her head.
She looked over
at JC laying on the floor and allowed a tear to fall.
She had never said
how much she loved him. She was so sorry for not
saying the things
she should have when she had a chance. She felt the
tears running
down her face, freely now. The door finally gave
away, and two police
stood in the doorway, with their guns trained on Mike.

“Let the girl go.”
“Back off, or I shoot!” he yelled.
“Come on, don’t make it any worse on yourself. Let
her go and we
can talk about this.”
Tallia had so many things running through her head.
Suddenly, she
had an idea. “Oh, god,” she mumbled. She went
completely limp.
Mike turned his attention to Tallia and took it off
the cops for a split
second, but it was long enough for them to get a shot
in. Mike looked
at the cops, stunned, then he looked at the blood
coming out of his
chest. He dropped the gun and fell to the floor.
“I only wanted to love you,” he said. Tallia
scrambled over to where
JC was laying. She took his limp body into her arms.
“Oh, god Josh! I’m so sorry. I love you! I never
wanted you to get involved in this. I never got to tell you how much I
loved you!” Tallia sobbed. She felt the police officers pull her away
from JC. “No!
Josh!” She turned to the cop who held her and cried.
She couldn’t hold back the tears.
