Chapter One

Melissa took a deep breath as she stepped closer to
the bridge's edge. She sighed and took a deep, ragged
breath as the wind whipped through her blonde hair.

"Why does he treat me like this?" She quietly asked
herself as a lone tear trickled down her cheek. "One
more step, one more step and I'll be free. Free from
all the hurt and pain Dad has caused me, from the
lonliness, from everything." she whispered as the
tears feel freely down her face.

She again, stepped closer to the edge, as she grabbed
a hold of one of the support beams, and layed against
it and cried. Her life was a total wreck.
Her dad always found something to yell and scream at
her about, school was becoming a struggle, she was
having a hard time keeping her grades up, and she just
found out that they man that she had been dating for
over a year and a half, had been cheating on her for
more than four months. She had made the decision to
end all her pain and suffering.

She let go of the beam as she took a deep breath and
looked down.
"One more step and everything will be fine." She
whispered.

JC Chasez parked his jeep and walked towards the old
abandoned bridge.
It was the place he always went to when he needed to
think and to just get away from everything and
everyone. JC was having problems with his girlfriend,
and all of his emotions were raging inside. He kicked
a few rocks on his way, as he shoved his hands in his
pockets and shivered from the cold October wind.

As JC neared the bridge, something caught his eye, but
it was too dark and he couldn't really see what it
was. He stopped and strained to see what was on the
bridge. He still couldn't see, and he turned around
to walk back towards his jeep, thinking it was just a
bunch of kids or something.
JC stopped dead in his tracks when he heard loud sobs
coming from the bridge. He turned around and caught a
glimpse of a blonde haired girl standing on the edge
of the bridge looking down.

"Oh my god." JC whispered as he sprinted towards the
bridge.
******** being careful not
to scare her. As he was walking, he accidentally
kicked a rock, causing the girl to turn around in
suprise.
JC's heart broke when he saw the hurt and fear on her
face. He knew he had to help her, but he wasn't sure
how to.

The girl glared at him as the tears still continued to
fall, "What do you want? Can't you see that I want to
be alone?" She hissed.

JC ignored her harsh words, and continued to walk
towards her slowly.
"Whatever is wrong, it's not worth it." JC said
quietly as he looked up at her.
She looked down and was mesmirized by his peircing
blue eyes. She found herself unable to move or speak.
He looked back at her as he watched the hurt in her
eyes soften. She shook her head as the glare in her
eyes came back.

"There has to be some way I can knock her walls down
and get to her." JC thought quietly to himself, as he
sat down on the rail.

"Wanna tell me about it?" JC questioned as he looked
up at her. She looked down into his eyes again, and
felt like she was under his spell. She sighed and
decided to tell him everything that was going on,
maybe she would feel better if she got everything off
her chest.

"Wait wait, before you start, you have to tell me your
name. My mom always told me never to talk to
strangers." JC said, giving a small smile. He was
suprised when a smile crossed her face, and a tiny
laugh escaped her lips.

"My name is Melissa." she said quietly.

"Well I'm JC, and it's nice to meet you Melissa, I
just wish it were under different circumstances." he
said as he looked up at her.

"Me too, and I already knew who you were, I haven't
been living under a rock all my life." She whispered
as she looked away and sighed heavily.

"Well, here's how everything started. First of all,
my Dad and I fight all the time, he's always yelling
and screaming at me for something. It's like whatever
I do is never good enough for him. Then, school has
been a struggle, and my grades are starting to slip.
If I don't bring them up, Dad will find out, and that
will just give him another excuse to scream at me.
And just today, I found out that my boyfriend of over
a year, has been cheating on me for the past few
months."

JC sat there in shock as she finished her story. Here
he was thinking about how things were so bad for him,
and here was this girl with her whole life crumbling
down around her at once.

"I can relate to the last part, I found out that my
girlfriend has been cheating on me too." He replied
looking at the ground.

JC stood up and held his hands out to Melissa, "Come
on, let's get out of this cold weather. You can come
back to my house and meet the rest of the guys."

Melissa looked at JC skeptically, but when their eyes
met, she felt herself go numb again, as she reached
out her hands to his. He slowly walked towards her,
keeping one hand in his, as he wraped an arm around
her waist
and helped her down off the rail. He kept his fingers
intertwined with hers as they walked back to his jeep.
He walked her to the passenger side of the car, and
opened the door for her, before climbing into the
driver's side.

"JC be careful. Don't fall so easily like you did
last time." he told himself quietly, as he looked over
at her. She turned her head and looked at him, as
their eyes met once again. This time it was JC to
feel numb from staring into her soft green eyes.

"Just be careful." He silently told himself again,
before starting the car and taking off.
***********
Kelliey's waist. All of the guys and their
girlfriends were hanging out at their house. Things
got really tense after JC and his girlfriend Sammie
got into a very heated argument. Things were pretty
unstable for them right now, but for some reason, and
despite his friends' pleas, JC wouldn't break up with
her. He constantly kept telling them that they just
wouldn't understand if he even tried to explain it to
them.
After JC left, everyone tried to losen up and have a
good time. So Joey insisted on turning the stereo up
and having everyone dance.

Justin, Kelliey, Lance, and his girlfriend Catherine
were the only ones dancing at the time. Just when
things were getting very calm, JC walked into the
house, with a small blonde girl behind him.

"Thank goodness JC! You've FINALLY come to your
senses!" Chris yelled as he walked towards the pair.
Melissa looked at JC strangely as he was glaring at
Chris.

"Kelliey, would you take Melissa into the kitchen and
get her something to drink please? I have to talk to
Chris." JC said bitterly as he grabbed Chris by the
arm and started dragging him outside.

"Sure JC." Kelliey responded, as she motioned for
Melissa to follow her.

"What was that all about?" Heidi asked her boyfriend,
Joey.
"I don't have the slightest clue. But he keeps
telling us how he can't break up with Sammie, but less
than 2 hours after getting into a fight with her, he
brings some girl home with him. That's totally not
like him." Joey replied

**Back Outside**

"Chris, what in the hell is your problem?" JC stated,
his tone of voice harsh.

"JC, dude chill out! I just figured that you were fed
up with Sammie's little childish games, and you
finally found someone else, that's all." Chris said.

JC sat down on the steps and put his head in his
hands. He was still committed to Sammie, but there's
was just this strange attraction to Melissa that he
just couldn't shake.

"I found her about to committ suicide on the bridge.
I feel so sorry for her. Her dad is constantly on her
case, she's trying to keep her grades up in college,
and her boyfriend of over one year has been cheating
on her for the past four months. The girl's life is a
total wreck, and for some strange reason, I wish I was
a part of her life to comfort her and help her through
that. And I JUST met her!" JC cried, standing up in
frustration.

"Whoa." Chris said quietly, as he sat down slowly and
watched JC pace around the porch.

"And then there's Sammie..." JC trailed off before
Chris interrupted him, "Dude! You're one of my best
friends, and I'm tired of keeping this from you, so
I'm just gonna straight up tell you what we think of
Sammie. We think that she's just after you for your
money, I mean look at you! You're a member of 'N Sync
and you have more money than you know what to do
with!"

JC stopped pacing and looked at Chris. He opened his
mouth to say something harsh, and to defend his
girlfriend, but then it clicked. Maybe Chris was
right.

"JC, man look, you just found out that she has been
cheating on you. I mean, come on! Look at that, that
should tell you something."

Chris stood up and approached JC, about to say
something else, when an all too familar 1998 blue
mustang pulled up. "Well well well, speak of the
she-devil" Chris smirked.

"Damnit, this is something I really don't need right
now." JC groaned, as he watched Sammie get out of the
car, and run towards him.

"Hey baby!" She said cheerfully as she leaned up to
kiss his cheek, he backed away and avoided her eyes,
"Hey." he muttered.

"Yeah, well, I'm going back inside." Chris said,
before dashing back inside the house, before WWIII
started.

"Sammie, we need to talk." JC said quietly.

"Okay, about what?" she replied.

"I don't think that we should be together anymore." he
said, this time looking at her with hurt in his eyes.

"But....but....I don't understand." She said, shaking
her head.

"There's nothing to understand Sammie. You cheated on
me, and I won't tolerate that." He said, his voice
rising in anger.

"There's someone else, it's another girl isn't it???"
She demanded.

JC looked away, unsure of what to say. He was
incredibly attracted to Melissa, but he just met her
tonight, and he didn't think that she had accumulated
those feelings as fast as he did.

"No, there's no one else. Now if you will excuse me,
I'm going to go back inside. Have a nice life
Sammie." JC said angrily, as he turned to walk back
inside.

Sammie stood there in shock. "How DARE he break up
with me. Well, I know there is someone else in his
life now, and I will find out who it is. I'll make
him realize how much he needs me. And if he doesn't?
Well, he'll just be sorry he ever met me." she smirked
as she got back into her car and drove off.

"You just wait, Mr. Chasez, you'll get what's coming
to you."
*********** and slammed the door
shut, causing everyone to look at him. He ignored all
the questioning glances, and headed towards the
kitchen to look for Melissa. He found her and Kelliey
in the kitchen laughing. JC stood out of sight from
the girls, as he watched them talk back and forth. He
looked at Melissa, and saw a totally different girl.
Her face no longer carried the emotional strain of
heartbreak and frustration, instead she was vibrant
and happy. He was about to walk into the kitchen,
when he heard his name come up in the conversation.

"So, what do you think about JC?" Kelliey questioned
smiling.

"Oh my goodness, where do I start?" she replied, with
a big smile across her face.

"Oooh girl, you best start spilling." Kelliey laughed.
She, for some reason felt really comfortable around
Melissa, almost like she had known her for years.
They were instantly becoming close.

"Well, the first thing I noticed about him, was those
piercing blue eyes of his, and that warm smile, and
that perfect hair, and that perfect personality...."
Melissa said, as she stared off into space smiling.

"Hmmmm, sounds like someone has a crush if you ask
me." Kelliey smiled, as she nudged Melissa.

"Maybe you're...." Melissa started, before she was
interrupted by JC barging into the kitchen, "Well
hello girls" he said smiling.

Melissa suddenly stopped talking as she turned fifteen
shades of red, hoping that JC didn't hear anything
that she was saying.

JC grabbed a bottle of water out of the fridge. Where
Melissa was sitting, her back was to him. JC looked
at Kelliey and mouthed, "I heard EVERYTHING." with a
big smile across his face. Kelliey's eyes widened and
her mouth dropped.

"What's wrong?" Melissa asked, as she looked up and
saw Kelliey's expression. JC just stood behind her
smiling.

"Umm...uhh nothing, I just remembered that
I....I....forgot to tell Justin something that's
really important. I'll be right back." She stuttered,
as she jumped up and walked towards the living room.

JC reached down and took Melissa's hand and pulled her
up. "Let's go for a walk."

Melissa stood up, as JC intertwined his fingers with
hers and gave her a sweet smile. He led her out the
backdoor and started walking through the courtyard.
Melissa sighed deeply as she looked up at the
beautiful night sky.
They continued to walk down the countyard's pathway.
JC sat down on a bench-swing and motioned for Melissa
to sit down beside him.

JC turned towards Melissa so that he was facing her.
He watched her as she nervously fidgeted with her
rings. He reached down and took both of her hands in
his. She turned her head and looked at him, and
immediately got lost in his eyes again.

"Melissa, there's something I really need to talk to
you about, actually, something I need to confess to."
JC said quietly, while softly running his fingers over
hers.

"What is it?" Melissa asked.

"Well, I kinda eavesdropped on your conversation with
Kelliey."

"Oh my god, how much of it did you hear??" Melissa
asked, starting to feel her cheeks turning red.

"Well...all of it." JC said smiling.

"Oh this is so embarrasing." Melissa laughed quietly
as she turned her head away.

JC broke his hand free from Melissa's, as he reached
up and slowly turned her face towards his. Their eyes
locked instantly, and they both felt the adreanalin
(sp? lol) rushing through their bodies. There was a
chemistry there that neither of them could explain.

JC slowly leaned towards Melissa as their lips met in
a tender, soft, yet compassionate kiss. As JC wrapped
his arms around her waist, Melissa wrapped her arms
around his neck, as they pulled each other closer, and
intensified their kiss.

"You're gonna pay for this. BOTH of you, you're gonna
pay." Sammie muttered angrily, as she watched JC and
Melissa from her hiding spot nearby. "She'll never
know what hit her."
**********
When The Last Tear Drop Falls
Chapter 5

Melissa's eyes fluttered open slowly, as she looked
around she tried to remember where she was. "Oh my
god." she whispered, when she realized that her and JC
had fallen asleep outside, "my dad is gonna shoot me."
She sat there for a few minutes trying to figure out
how she was going to get out of this with her dad,
when JC started to slowly wake up. He groggily looked
at his watch.

"Damn, it's 9:00, I can't believe we fell asleep out
here."

Melissa got up and started pacing around the
countyard, she knew how much trouble she was going to
be in. She knew there was no way she was gonna fast
talk her way out of this one, and slowly her eyes
began to fill up with tears.
JC looked up and walked over to her and wrapped his
arms around her.

"Hey, what's wrong?" he whispered as he tilted her
chin up so that she was looking at him.

"JC, my dad's going to kill me for this. You just
don't....understand how.....he is." she said, choking
with tears.

JC pulled Melissa closer to him, as she broke down
into sobs. "Shhh, it'll be okay." JC whispered into
her ear, as he slowly rubbed her back. Melissa pulled
away quickly, and looked up at him, "You gotta take me
back to my car. I have to hurry up and get home."

JC nodded as he took her hand and led her back into
the house. He grabbed his keys off the table, and
they both walked out to his car.

On the way back to Melissa's car, the ride was filled
with silence, with an ocassional sniffle coming from
Melissa. Fear and dread building up inside her as
each second passed.
She could already hear her Dad screaming at her.

When the finally reached the abandoned bridge, Melissa
quickly opened the door and was about to jump out,
when JC grabbed her arm. She turned to face him, and
JC's heart broke at the look of fear in her eyes.
"JC, I have to go NOW. I'm already in enough
trouble." Melissa stated quietly, as the tears began
to build up in her eyes again. Melissa wanted to run
as fast as she could to her car. She had fallen hard
for JC in the short time that she had knew him, and
she had an errie feeling that she would never lay eyes
on him again, and that killed her. JC kept a hold of
her arm.

"Can I see you again?" He asked quietly.

"I don't think that's possible." Melissa stammered, as
the tears began free falling down her face. She
quickly jerked her arm away from his grasp and ran to
her car. JC watched her run and jump into her Ford
Mustang and quickly take off, never looking back.

Melissa sped home as fast as she could. She knew she
was in serious trouble, and part of her wanted to run
back to JC and have him hold her in his arms, but the
other part knew she had to face her dad, no matter how
strong the consequences.

When Melissa finally pulled up into her driveway, she
turned the car off, and got out of her car, slowly
approaching the door. She shakily reached for the
doorknob and turned it quietly, hoping her dad wasn't
in the living room, to where she could sneak up to her
room.
As she slowly opened the door, she felt a strong jerk
of the door that sent her flying into the house. She
looked up to meet her dad's eyes, blazing in fury.

"Where in the hell where you all night long?" Her
father snapped.

"I was at a friend's house, and I fell asleep there.
I'm sorry." Melissa stated quietly, as she looked at
the ground.

"That's it! I've had it with your irresponsible
behavior! I'm sending you back to Arkansas to live
with your sister. I just can't handle you anymore!"
Her dad screamed.

Melissa's heart shattered as she heard her dad say
those words. She now knew that she would never see JC
again. As the tears, once again, began to fall, she
ran up to her room as fast as her legs could carry
her. She packed quickly, and ran to the phone to call
her best friends Leslie, Katie, Natasha, and Laura to
tell them that her father was sending her away. Her
friends were as crushed as she was, and they had all
agreed to meet at Melissa's house to take her to the
airport. But what Melissa didn't know, was that JC
had followed her home, to make sure she got home
alright, and to also find out where she lived.
He passed her house to see 4 girls getting out of
Camero.

"I'm not gonna let her go." JC said to himself, as he
turned around to go back home.

The four girls walked quickly to the front door, as
Melissa met them, tears falling down her face.

"Hon, don't cry." Leslie said, as she wrapped her arms
around her friend, tears also coming to her eyes.

"I can't believe he is doing this to her." Laura
whispered quietly to Natasha, as she nodded her head
in agreement.

"We'll always be here for ya sweetie, we just want you
to know that." Katie said, as she layed a reassuring
hand on Melissa's shoulder. She nodded slowly, as she
grabbed her bags and walked towards the car.

One hour later, the 5 best friends were saying their
final goodbyes. Not knowing what fate had in store
for all of them.

"I'm gonna miss you guys so much." Melissa choked out.

"We'll miss you too girl." Katie said, as she wiped
the tears off her face.

Melissa hugged each of her best friends one last time,
before she turned to board the plane. A plane that
was gonna take her thousands of miles away from four
of her closest friends, and away from the man that had
so quickly captured her heart.
