ONE CHANCE

Part 1
It's almost been a year since I've seen my best friend Klaire Douglas.
It was at the beginning of our senior year that she moved away. Her parents thought she'd be better off if she went to live with her aunt in Orlando, Florida. To me, it just wasn't right, making her spend her senior year at a new school. Unfortunately, the decision was not up to me.
In an hour she was going to be in town. I was so excited to see her. I wanted for her to see my whole family, but I just got all moved into my new apartment in Memphis, and my family lived in Seattle.
* Ring *
"Hello?" I said picking up my phone.
"Hey, Rachael, just wanted to let you know that I'm on my way to your apartment. I got a taxi cause my flight got in early," Klaire said.
"You could have called. I would have came and got you," I said.
"It's alright. Too late for it anyway. Boy, do I have a surprise for you.
You don't mind if I bring a couple of friends with me to you place, do you?"
"Friends?"
"Yeah, my boyfriend and a friend of his."
"Boyfriend? You've got some stuff to tell me, girl. What's his name?" I asked.
"Justin. Clean up, we're all going to go out to dinner as soon as we get there. Wear something nice."
"Alright
" I said with a slight pause, "why?"
"Just trust me. Hot!"
"The guy is?"
"Yes, very. Remember, nice," Klaire said and hung up her cell phone quickly.
I hung up my phone with a smile on my face. I tried to picture what the guy Klaire had for me looked like. I could not believe my best friend didn't tell me about getting a boyfriend.

Part 2
* Ding Dong *
My doorbell rang, and right away I knew it was Klaire, and the two guys.
I had decided to go with my black spaghetti-strap dress that hung mid-leg.
I opened the door
only Klaire was there.
"Where are the guys?" I asked.
"Don't worry, they're meeting us at the restaurant."
"Wow, you look great, Klaire," I said hugging her.
Since the last time I saw Klaire, she had lost some weight, either that or she got clothes that fit tighter. I couldn't decide, but whatever it was, she looked great. She had, however, dyed her long hair a light blond, but she still had her gorgeous green eyes. She stood at 5'5" still, however, not taller than me at 5'7".
"Thanks, so do you. The only thing that's changed about you, Rach, is you hair. It gets shorter and shorter all the time. Next time I see you, you'll probably have shaved it off!" she said jokingly.
"Nah
I'm not going to go that far."
"Well lets hope not. We better go. We don't want to keep the guys waiting."
We got into my black jeep Cherokee and drove to the restaurant we were meeting the guys at.
"Hey, Rachael?" Klaire asked.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"What would you say if I told you I got us tickets for the August 28th 'NSync show here in Memphis?" Klaire asked.
"You didn't? Aren't the tickets sold out?"
"I did, and yes, they are sold out."
"What row are they in?"
"First row, center section, seats 7 and 8," she said.
"Oh my gosh! No way! I don't believe you."
"Will this convince you?" she asked showing me the tickets she pulled out of her purse.
"Aha! Klaire, you rock. You know that don't you?" I said.

Part 3
We soon arrived at B. B. King's Blues Club.
"May I help you, miss?" A waiter asked Klaire.
"No, I've found my party. Thanks anyway," she said grabbing me by the arm and pulling me along with her.
I couldn't quite tell what the two guys looked like. Their backs were facing towards us, and I don't usually judge someone by the back of his head. We got to the table.
"Rachael, I'd like to introduce you to my boyfriend Justin Timberlake, and his friend JC Chasez. Guys this is Rachael Stuart, my best-friend."
"Hey," the two of them said in unison.
I couldn't say anything, because I couldn't believe who Klaire had just introduced me to. I didn't want to look completely stupid so I said something, "hi," I said in a soft voice.
"We've heard a lot about you," JC said.
"Oh, great," I said.
"No, it wasn't anything bad at all. It was all good," JC said standing up, "here have a seat," he said pulling out the empty chair that was across from Justin.
He pushed my chair in as I sat down. While JC was up, Klaire went over and took his seat, forcing him to sit by me.
"So, Rachael, how old are you?" he asked.
"I'm turning twenty in two days. How old are you?"
"I turned twenty-three on August 8th. Your birthday isn't that far away from mine. The 20th of August is your birthday?" he asked.
I knew he knew the answer, but I still replied, "yep."
I had to take a quick glance over at Justin quickly, because I could still not believe I was eating dinner with JC Chasez, and Justin Timberlake from 'NSync. It was too unbelievable. I felt like if I pinched myself, I would wake up from this wonderful thing.
"This is the first time we've had more than two days off," JC said.
"Why? How long do you guys have off?" I asked.
"Till our show here on the 28th of this month. Is it alright for us to hang out with you girls for that long?"
What else was I going to say, 'no'? Why in the world would I say 'no'?
"Yeah, that would be fine," I replied.
"Great! We've got something special planned for you."
"What?" I asked half-nervous, half-excited.
"I'm not going to tell you. It's a surprise, but I promise, babe, you'll like it," he said as he put his arm around me and smiled.
'Babe'? I could not believe what I was hearing. What kind of surprise did 'they' have for me, and who was 'they'?
Questions kept going on through my mind. All through dinner, I felt as if I moved wrong I'd wake up, but nothing like that happened.
We all enjoyed our wonderful dinners. Justin and JC paid for Klaire's, and my dinner. They were such sweet guys, and better looking in person than in any pictures I had ever seen.

Part 4
"Where are you guys staying tonight?" I enquired as we started to get into separate vehicles.
"The Raddison Hotel, why?" JC asked with a smirk on his face.
"Do you guys, all of you, want to crash at my apartment tonight? I don't have any roommates yet, so I've got a couple extra beds."
"Sure. That would be great," JC said.
"We'll have to go get Lance, Chris, and Joey," Justin said.
"Okay. Well, Klaire, you ride with Justin, and JC, you ride with me," I
said.
"Alright," JC said as he walked over to my jeep, and Klaire and Justin went to Justin's Mercedes.
JC got into the passenger's side. Not long after we had left the restaurant, JC slid his hand over to mine and held my hand until we got to the hotel that the others were at.
Outside the hotel, there were about fifty girls screaming. I didn't know why at first, but quickly realized what they were screaming at after looking at JC. All the girls were about 15 years old, and they all wanted to catch a glimpse of the guys.
"Stay here," I said opening my door, "Me and Klaire will go get the others.
Take my jeep around to the backside."
"Alright," he said.
"What room are they in?" I asked.
"202 and 203."
"Okay. I'll be right back."
I got out of my jeep and went to get Klaire out of Justin's Mercedes, which was parked on the road, so no one would see him.
"Hey, Klaire, I got an idea," I told her as we walked inside the hotel to the elevators.
"I want Chris to come with me!" Klaire exclaimed after I told her about my plan to have the guys come out holding our hands.
"Okay, I'll take Lance, and we'll have Joey go out the back way," I said.
"Sounds good."
We soon reached rooms 202 and 203. I told Klaire that it would be better if she knocked since she knew them and I didn't. She agreed.
* Knock, knock *
"Who's there?" A voice asked from inside room 202.
"It's me, Klaire."
"Hold on."
It took a moment before the door was opened. Chris was the one to open the door.
"Hey, Klaire," Chris said as he hugged Klaire, "who's your friend?"
"Oh, sorry, this is Rachael. The one I've told you about. We've come to get you guys to take you back to her place."
"How are you going to get us out of here? Did you see how many fans are in the lobby and outside?" Chris said.
"Just trust us," I said.
"Oh, by the way, it's nice to meet you, Rachael," Chris said.
"Nice to meet you too."
We got Lance and Joey from their hotel room and filled them in on our plan, too. The guys thought it'd be a great plan. Joey was going to take the fire escape stairs out to the jeep.
Klaire, Chris, Lance, and me all went to the elevators into the lobby. The screams grew louder as more girls saw Chris and Lance.
As we walked by some of them, they cursed at Klaire, and me. They were so jealous that we were with them.
"Lance, Chris, where are the other guys?" one girl asked.
"Yeah," another added, "like Justin?"
We all ignored the girls and went outside where more girls cursed at us. We went to the back of the hotel where JC and Justin had the vehicles.
"Rach, hold on," Klaire said.
"What are you going to do?" I asked more than ready to go already.
"Just watch. Chris, come with me. Just play along."
"Alright," he said.
I watched as Klaire went back over closer to the screaming girls. She waited to make sure most of them were looking. She got their attention when she grabbed Chris and kissed him. My mouth dropped open. I could not believe she was doing this.
More curses came from the fans. She came back to Justin's Mercedes after a few seconds of kissing Chris.
"Klaire, I don't believe you," I said, "Quit taunting the fans."
We both laughed and got into the two vehicles.

Part 5
We got to my apartment in a couple of minutes later. Luckily, none of the teeny fans followed us. Of course, most of them were only about 15 or younger so they couldn't drive anyway.
We all got out of the vehicles and started walking towards my apartment.
"Klaire, you know that all those little girls will think that I have a girlfriend," Chris said.
"Chris, you do have a girlfriend, don't you?" Klaire asked.
I have to admit, I myself was shocked to find out any of them had girlfriends. They always say how they're 'single and ready to mingle'.
"Yeah."
"Amaya, right?" Klaire asked knowing the answer.
"Yep. My lovely Amaya Emelie Cooper."
Lance laughed.
"Lance you shouldn't talk. What about Nikole?" Justin asked.
"Yes, Nikole McSweeny is my girlfriend. What about it?" Lance said.
I opened the door to my apartment and turned on the living room light. We all grabbed chairs.
I had two couches, well more like loveseats, two recliners, and one rocking chair.
Klaire and Justin sat down on one of the couches. Joey sat in the rocking chair. JC sat down on the other couch. Lance started to sit down next to JC.
"No. This seat is for Rachael," JC said to Lance.
I blushed and watched Lance and Chris sit in the recliners. I walked over to the couch and sat next to JC.
JC put his arm around me, as I was about to talk. I paused, but quickly snapped back into reality, "you guys want to watch a movie?" I asked.
"Naw, Rach, let's just chill and put some tunes on," Klaire said.
The room was quiet with Klaire half-asleep on Justin's shoulder. I was so glad to see Klaire so happy, and with such a great guy.
I got up from the couch; JC's arm slowly fell off of my shoulder. I went over to the CD player and put in my Jewel CD, on random. "Absence of Fear" was the first song that played. It was my favorite song on her CD. I sat back down next to JC.
"I love this song," I said to him noticing that everyone else was asleep,
"look their all sleeping."
"Do you want to dance?" he asked.
"I'd love to."
We got up and danced to the song. My body was firmly pressed against his. I rested my head on his shoulder. I wanted to have this song last forever. He was so amazing. He looked so good in his short sleeve white shirt and gray cargo pants.
"Rachael, you are so beautiful," he said to me.
A single tear ran down my cheek. JC was quick to take his hand and brush the tear away. We stopped dancing and just stood there looking into each other's eyes.
He brushed his hand on my face again. He leaned in and kissed me.
"I'm so glad I met you, Rachael. You're amazing," JC said.
I felt like crying again, but I didn't, "JC you're amazing too. I really like you. I'm glad Klaire knows you guys. By the way, how did you guys meet her anyway?" I asked.
"In Orlando, where we're from, we went to do a benefit concert at a hospital. Klaire was there volunteering with the kids. She helped them all out of bed and everything, just so they could come see us. Justin saw her while she was doing this and went to help her. They talked for a while before we went on. Things just clicked between the two of them. We all met her later on after the show. She's came with us to a few of our shows and did the announcing of the opening bands and us. She wanted to see Justin as much as she could," JC told me.
"Wow. She never told me all of this. That is so cool though. You all are such great people. I don't want to loose you guys."
"Don't worry, you won't. I don't want to loose you either."
"I'm so glad you like me. I never thought I'd meet someone as great as you," I said.
"We should get some sleep. It's already 2 o'clock in the morning," JC said as he grabbed my hand.
"Yeah, here I'll show you which room you can have."
We walked down the hall to the room right across the hall from mine.
"Well, goodnight, my dearest," he said kissing my hand.
"Goodnight," I said smiling as I walked into my room and got into bed.

Part 6
"Hey, lazy, are you going to sleep all day?" Chris asked as he came into my room to wake me up.
"Huh?" I said still half-asleep, "What time is it?"
"One o'clock in the afternoon. Everyone else has been up for two hours already."
"Even JC?"
"Surprisingly, yes."
"How come he didn't come and wake me up?"
"He went out quick. He'll be right back though."
I got out of bed; "well I'm going to take a quick shower."
"Alright, we'll just be in the living room," Chris said as he walked out of my room.
I quickly took my shower and got dressed in blue jeans and a white tank top.
"Klaire?" I said wondering where everyone was.
I saw a note lying on the table. I picked it up. It read: meet us at the park outside. I got my shoes on and went outside down to the park a block away.
"JC," I said as soon as I saw him in the distance.
He came running over to me.
"Hey, sweetheart," he said.
"Hey, where's everyone else?" I asked.
"You'll see," He said covering my eyes with a blindfold. JC took my hand and put his arm around me, helping me to the place he was taking me.
"Okay. We're here," JC said letting go of my hand. He reached around and untied my blindfold. My mouth dropped open when I saw what was in front of my eyes.
"So where is everyone else?" I asked looking at a single red rose in a vase on the table surrounded by candles. He had two places set and a picnic basket on the table.
"They went out. I'm not sure where. I think they were going to lunch or something," he said escorting me to the picnic table.
"This is so sweet of you, but why me?" I asked.
"You're worth it. I like you so much, Rachael. I wanted to do something special for you."
It was all so amazing. It was still hard to believe this was happening to me.
"I got a favor to ask you," I said.
"Yeah, what is it?"
"Will you sing for me?" I asked.
"Sure, anything for you. What do you want me to sing?"
"How bout your guys' song 'God Must Have Spent'?"
"Sure. 1-2-3-4. In all of creation all things great and small, you are the one that surpasses them all. More precious than any diamond or pearl, they broke the mold, when you came in this world. I'm trying hard to figure out, just how I ever did without. The warmth of your smile, the heart of a child, that's deep inside. Leaves me purified," he sang.
"You have such a beautiful voice. Thank you."
"Do I get the pleasure of hearing you sing?"
"Me?" I asked.
"Yeah, I'd love to hear you sing for me," JC said with a smile on his face.
"I don't know what to sing," I paused, "give me a song."
"Umm
how about 'Genie in a Bottle'? Sound good to you?"
"Sure," I said kind of nervous. I cleared my throat; "If you want to be with me, baby there's a price to pay. I'm a genie in a bottle; you gotta rub me the right way. If you want to be with me, I can make your wish come true. Just come and set me free baby and I'll be with you. I'm a genie in a bottle baby, gotta rub me the right way, hunny. I'm a genie in a bottle baby, come, come, come on and let me out."
"Wow. That was great."
"No, it wasn't. You were so much better"
We sat there talking for about another hour before we decided to go back to my apartment.
