CHAPTER 13
The tour finally ended and after a lot of discussion Haley and JC decided not to move in with each other. Their houses were right across the street from each other so whose ever house they slept at the other would just walk across in the morning. Everybody mostly hung out at the girls' house so Haley and JC usually slept there. When he had to go on some promoting trips she would always find one of his socks lying around somewhere. These little things made Haley laugh, strengthening her relationship with JC.
JC started to notice Haley's complexion fading. Her rosy cheeks were suddenly pale and her eyes didn't twinkle. Her appetite changed and so did her moods.
One morning JC felt Haley rush out of bed. He though nothing of it until he noticed she was gone for a long time. He sleepily climbed out of bed making his way slowly over to the bathroom. He opened the door to find Haley hovering over the toilet.
"What the.."Halley waved her hand at JC. She finished and looked up, grabbing some toilet paper to wipe her mouth. "Babe are you okay?" JC asked her.
Hal shrugged and looked at herself in the mirror. "God...I fuckin feel bloated..." She picked up her toothbrush and began brushing her teeth because her mouth had a flavor she didn't want to taste. She leaned up against the wall and slid down to the floor.
"Maybe we should take you to the doctor." JC said as he knelt down next to Haley. She simply nodded her head as the tears started to flow. "What's wrong babe?" Haley shook her head and mumbled something. "I don't know? I feel fine at night but in the morning I'm always in here. I hate throwing up." JC took Haley in his arms rocking her gently until Sarah walked into the bathroom. She was wearing Lance's translucent wifebeaters not thinking anyone would be in the bathroom at this hour in the morning. When JC and Haley looked up she quickly covered her chest and walked into her bedroom to change into another shirt. Minutes later she walked in again her face still red with embarrassment.
"What's wrong Hal?" Sarah asked as she knelt down in front of her and JC. As Haley explained how she was all of a suddenly commonly in the bathroom at five in the morning Lance groggily walked in. His senses were sparked awake when Haley's symptoms reminded him of his sisters.
She can't be pregnant! No not Haley. She is too young. I know her and JC were having sex but no she can't be.
The thoughts fled from his mind when Sarah lips brushed his. "Hey babe. Do you think Haley should go to the doctor's? They don't call you Scoop for nothin' right?" Lance looked at Sarah and then at Haley. She looked so small on the floor in JC's arms. Her face was defiantly very pale and thin but her body wasn't. Her appetite was remarkably different and the fact that she was throwing didn't help.
"You should call today Hal." Lance said as he wrapped his arms around Sarah's waist.
"I'll take you when I get back from practice ok babe?" JC whispered as they rocked back and forth. He felt her head move and assumed she shook it head yes. He kissed her head and looked up at Lance and Sarah. "I'll call and see if I can get an appointment after 3:00. That will give us enough time to get there. I'm gonna put her to bed now. Lance meet me downstairs at 6." Lance shook his head as he and Sarah walked into their room. JC picked up Haley and carried her into their room. He tucked into the covers and kissed her head. Her eyes were closed but she smiled when she felt his kiss. "Sweet dreams babe." JC whispered as he walked into the bathroom for a shower. Haley snuggled tightly into the covers smelling JC's scent in them. She sensed only JC as she drifted off to sleep.
When her head finally lifted off the pillow it was 11:00. Haley rolled out of bed and took a shower as she felt a headache coming. She had a couple hours before JC arrived home at 3. She slowly got dressed pulling on jeans and one of JC's huge sweatshirts. She skipped down the stairs as her stomach grumbled loudly. A note had been tacked on the fridge addressed to her. Lauren and Kelly were at Trans. Con and Rachel and Sarah had gone with the boys to practice. Haley sighed as she fixed herself a bowl of cereal. As she sat down at the couch she heard the front door open.
"I'm up." Haley called to whoever had entered the house. When no one answered she lifted her head over the couch to see who it was. A man's figure stood in the doorway, his broad shoulders and built body was vaguley familiar. "Can I help you?" Haley asked as she jumped off the couch. As soon as the man walked into the light Haley's heart beat skipped.
"Hey Hal. Haven't seen you in a while." Only two people called Haley Hal that way, that loving way. JC and
"Mike!" Haley yelled as she backed away. "W-What are you doing here?"
"I came back for you Haley. I love you so much and I can't stand seeing you with JC." Mike edged his way closer to Haley. "He treats you well. I have to say that the puppy and the flowers was a unique touch for Valentine's Day."
"Mike leave. You're not supposed to be here. Leave and I won't call the authorities." Haley said as she pointed towards the door. She couldn't help but notice her hand shaking. She took a deep breath to calm her nerves as she stared at Mike. He hadn't moved and a treacherous smiled was on his face. "Leave MIKE!"
"Haley, I can't leave. Not until I know one thing. I need to know that if I can't have you then no one will. It's actually very simple. Either you come back to me or well I'll just have to get rid of JC." The words flowed from Mike's lips so easily. He didn't even flinch as he threatened JC's life. Haley was shocked that he would do something but by the way he was looking at her she knew he was dangerous.
"I'm never going to go back with you Mike." Haley snapped. She had to be strong in front of him so the situation didn't get out of control.
"Ok." Mike said shrugging his shoulders. "I see how much you love him Haley. It would crush you if he was killed, but eventually you would move on. That's too easy. But if you had to leave, now that would be perfect. You love him too much to stay with him knowing that I'll kill him sooner or later so that's why your gonna leave. You're already thinking about it. I can see it in your eyes. You've almost planned everything out." Mike turned around and walked towards the door Haley was still pointing at. Before he left he turned around facing Haley. "Haley just think when your kissing JC you'll be kissing me. When you hold JC you're holding me and when you see JC I'll be right behind him waiting for you. If I can't have you Haley, no one will!" With that he left slamming the door behind him. When Haley heard his car speed off she fell to the ground in tears. She had to cry, she couldn't be strong any longer. Still crying she rushed upstairs into her room. Quickly she threw clothes into her suitcase thinking of what she would need. She grabbed her portable phone and called her cousin Anna.
"Come on pick up pick up!" Haley muttered nervously.
"Hello?"
"Hello Anna? Hi this is Haley. Hey can I ask a big favor of you?"
"Sure Hal. What's wrong?" Haley's voice was choked as she held back the tears. "Did something happen between you and JC?"
"No. It's Mike. He came back." Haley heard Anna gasp on the other end of the phone and continued talking. "He said that he wanted me back and that if he couldn't have me no one would. He threatened to hurt JC."
"Haley so where do I come in handy?" Anna asked confused.
"Haley he'll hurt JC unless I leave. I love JC so much and I can't see him getting hurt or even killed. I have to leave quickly so can I stay with you and Adam?" Haley asked as the tears poured down her face.
"Oh Haley of course you can but I still don't see why you have to leave."
"Anna I'll tell you when I get there ok?
"Ok? See ya in a bit girl." Haley hung up the phone and stood up to leave. She surveyed the room making sure she didn't forget anything when he eyes landed on the dresser next to her bed. On top were pictures of her and JC. She walked over to the dresser and picked up the picture of JC. It was her favorite picture of him that she had taken while in Europe. He was standing up against a wall with a single rose in his hand. She smiled as she remembered the day when he surprised her. He had written her a note that had told her to meet him behind the venue. He was there waiting with the rose and she just had to take a picture. They walked into the woods behind the venue to the edge of a cliff. The view was beautiful, overseeing the whole town. It was one of the most romantic things JC had ever done for Haley and a tear slipped down her cheek as she placed the picture next to her. Another picture was of Haley. JC had taken it when he had seen one of Haley's soccer games. Haley hated it because her hair was being blown all over the place. The ball was resting on her hip and she was yelling at the people. JC always told her that she looked beautiful in the picture but Haley would always disagree. She placed the picture frame back on the dresser where she had found it. The last picture was of Haley and JC. Joey had taken it when Haley and JC had arrived home from their night alone in Paris. They were smiling and looking at each other. Joey had snapped the picture secretly only telling them about it after it had been developed. Haley had had it blown up and put in a really nice frame. She grabbed the other picture of JC and with both pictures in her hand she left the room. As she walked down the hall she passed Sarah's room. She walked in and looked around. She couldn't leave her friends with out telling them where she was. They would not tell JC, Haley trusted them. She fished through Sarah's desk pulling out a pencil and paper. She quickly scribbled down a note explaining where she had gone and Anna's phone number. She left it on Sarah's bed and quickly left. She couldn't endure all the memories that were rushing into her brain as she left the house. She locked the door and sped off in her car.
CHAPTER 14
JC walked up to the house not noticing Haley's car gone from the driveway. He was surprised to find the door locked but thought nothing of it. As he skipped up the stairs he finally noticed the awkward silence that hung in the air. When he reached Haley's room he realized she wasn't there. Linking her missing car, and the locked door he figured that she had left somewhere. Then he noticed the missing pictures. Those pictures were so special to Haley and JC's heart started to beat fast. He walked over to the closet and opened the door. His worst fears came true when he saw the missing suitcase and clothes. He frantically raced down the stairs running into a confused Justin.
"Hey JC, what's wrong man?" Justin asked as he shifted out of JC's path.
"She's gone!" JC yelled as he ran through the house.
"What?" Lauren asked as JC ran past her and Kelly. They had arrived home just in time for JC's rampage through the house. Rachel and Sarah pulled up it their car with the rest of the guys. They pilled out and were equally puzzled.
"Haley, she left." Justin said as he started to panic as well.
"WHAT!" Sarah raced upstairs into Haley's room with Rachel, Lauren and Kelly close at her heels. "She left! She really left!"
"Hey Sarah look at this." Rachel called as she skimmed Haley's note. Sarah walked into her room as Kelly and Lauren crowded around Rachel. "Close the door."
"What is it?" Sarah asked as she shut the door behind her.
"Haley wrote us a note and she left a number for us to call her." Kelly said as Lauren started to read the note aloud.
Babes,
Sorry I had to leave like this. I don't want to but something or someone is making me. I will tell you more when I talk to you in person. I'm staying at Anna and Adam's in Miami. The number is below. Please don't tell JC! This is really important for his safety. Trust me! I know, I hope, what I am doing.
Love,
Haley
The girls sat there stunned on Sarah's bed. The new information sinked into their brains and they didn't know what to say. Sarah broke the silence with a sigh.
"We should call her." She said as she reached for her phone. She dialed the number and waited for someone to pick up.
"Hello?"
"Hi is Haley there?"
"Sarah? This is Haley. Is this Sarah?" Haley asked weakly.
"Haley this is Sarah. You have to explain girl NOW!" Sarah yet her anger show through her voice and she heard Haley sigh on the other end. "NOW!"
"Sarah while you guys were gone Mike came back." Sarah gasped on the other end of the line as Haley choked down a sob. "He said that he wanted me back but I told him I had moved on. Sarah he followed us on tour through Europe. He knew about JC and me. Sarah I was so scared by the look on his face. He said that if he couldn't have me, no one could. He said he would hurt JC unless I left. I love JC so much Sarah you have to believe me. Sarah do you believe me?" Haley let the tears flow, impeding her speech.
"I believe you Hal but are you sure he was serious?" Sarah asked. She knew Haley was weak when it came to Mike, he had hurt her so much.
"Sarah you had to have seen his face. It was angry, so angry. He would hurt JC and he told me. I was so scared Sarah, I had to leave. I can't even think about JC getting hurt and this seems like the only way."
"Ok Hal, you're right but you can't run from JC forever. You love him! He loves you too." Sarah reprimanded.
"I know." Haley sighed. "But this seems like the best thing to do now. Sarah I'll manage I have to." Sarah was confused at Haley's statement but shrugged it off.
"Hal did you at least go to the doctors?" She heard Haley sigh at the other end.
"Yes and it only makes things worse."
"Why Hal?" Sarah asked anxiously.
"Sarah, I-I'm pregnant." Sarah started hysterically coughing. The other girls looked at her their faces begging her to tell them about Haley. She waved them off and controlled the coughing.
"When Haley? Tell me when?" Sarah spit out.
"Remember when JC and I went out to dinner in Paris and then stayed at the hotel?" Haley said smiling as she remembered the night. It was the most magical moment of her life, embedded in her memory forever.
"Then?" Sarah exclaimed as she hit herself. She had never asked Haley about that night respecting her privacy.
"Sarah it was the best moment of my life. Finally I could really express all my love for JC."
"Yes Haley but now you are 20 yrs. old and pregnant! JC should have known better." Sarah replied exasperated. She heard Haley sniffled and frowned regretting her choice of words. "Hal, I'm sorry. I know you love JC. I'm sorry. But now you have to tell JC, you definitely can't run away now." Haley sighed loudly and placed a hand on her pounding head.
"Sarah my head is spinning. I'm always thinking but now I can't stop. My mind won't rest until I figure out the answer to this awful mess. I'm a wreck. Before when I was like this I would just let JC hold me but now that's a little out of the question." Sarah frowned as Haley's logical, emotional side started to talk.
"Haley rest and we'll think of something. I can tell by your voice and how upset you are and that Mike was serious so I think that leaving was a good idea but you can't run forever ok?"
"Ok. I'll talk to you later Sarah. Thank you so much for understanding and comfort JC for me ok? Please!"
"Ok I promise." Sarah hung up when she heard the click on Haley's end. She turned around to three confused faces. They had only heard Sarah's side of the conversation making them very confused. Sarah explained everything to them and they talked for awhile. Kelly's stomach started to grumble reminding everyone how late it was. They silently made their way down stairs afraid to see JC's face. He was sitting on the couch and all the guys were trying to comfort him. His head was in his hands and his sobs were soft but prominent.
"I'm sorry JC." Sarah whispered as she sat next to him on the couch rubbing his back. "I'm so sorry."
"I loved her so much." JC whimpered as he threw himself into Sarah's hug. She was stunned at how badly he was taking this. He loved Haley more than she thought.
JC walked up the stairs like he did every time he came home. He went straight into Haley's room. When he didn't see her sitting there, smiling on the bed, his heart sunk. Ever since Haley had left JC always hoped she would be in her room, waiting for him and every time she wasn't he missed her more and more. He lay on her bed and pressed her picture against his chest. He wanted to cry but no tears would come, he had cried so many times before."JC." Kelly whispered as she knocked on the door. She knew she would find him there, in Haley's room. No one bothered him when he went up there. Some were used to it and other's just tried to ignore his hurt face when he finally walked miserably down the stairs. "JC this came for you in the mail today."
"Thanks." JC mumbled, as he stayed slumped on the bed. Kelly placed the package on the bed and walked silently out of the room.
"I can't believe I lied to him." Kelly muttered as she walked into Rachel's room.
"It's just a fib." Rachel explained. "Just so that Haley can tell JC about the baby."
"He is so cute." Lauren said as she pounced on the bed. She held a picture of Haley's baby boy, Parker, in her hand.
"He looks so much like JC." Sarah pointed out. She frowned as she saw how great the resemblance was. Haley had had Parker two months ago. She had contacted the girls to see if they could be there for his birth but they couldn't. Haley had said that she wanted to tell JC about Parker secretly incase Mike was still watching her. She had video taped her and Parker and sent it to JC with copies of his birth certificate, foot prints and numerous pictures. It was all in the package that was on the end of Haley's bed.
When JC woke up from his nap he accidentally kicked the package still on the bed. He picked it up and remembered Kelly giving it to him.
