Drive Myself Crazy
Part Seven
**********************

Eppie spent her last two days of vacation locked in her room. It felt to her
like she was never going to be able to stop crying. She found herself waking
up in the middle of the night, tears running down her cheeks.
On the night before they left, Eppie's mom knocked on her door. "We'd better
get you packed. We're leaving tomorrow." She said in her most sympathetic
tone. "I know you're hurting, Eppie, but it really is for the best."
Eppie stared at the wall. HOW COULD IT BE FOR THE BEST? She turned toward
her mother. "Does the pain ever stop?" Eppie asked.
Her mother sat next to her on the bed and whiped the tears from Eppie's
face. "Of course. You'll meet someone new and you'll forget all about this
guy."
Eppie gave her mother a hug. "Oh, mom. I hope you're right."

*****************************

The group ran off the stage.
"Justin!" Johnny Wright called from the left wing of the stage.
Justin ran over to him. "Hey, Johnny," he replied in an unusual, grumpy
tone.
"Justin. I need to talk to you. I've noticed you've been acting weird lately
and I talked to the guys about it..."
Justin groaned.
"Justin, the fans don't pay to go to an 'N Sync concert to see you, Justin
Timberlake, cry and walk off the stage everytime the group sings a song
about broken hearts. Now, the guys told me why you're so upset and I
understand... honestly. But giving JC all of your solos in "I Want You Back"
and "I Drive Myself Crazy" and all of those kinds of songs isn't going to
make things any better. They want to see YOU singing YOUR solos and JC
singing his OWN solos."
Justin stared at the floor. "I know... and I'm sorry, Johnny..."
"There's this thing called acting. You might want to try it. This is how it
works: the moment you set foot ON stage, you smile. You pretend that
everything is great and you never laid eyes on that girl... The moment you
set foot OFF the stage, well, then you can cry your eyes out, do whatever
you want. But not in front of the fans. Alright?"
Justin nodded his head and ran toward the bus. The rest of the guys didn't
say a word as he boarded it. He glanced at them and headed for his bunk.
"I'm getting so worried about him." Chris remarked. "He's not happy. It's
weird. I don't know how we can help him."
The other guys agreed. It was their third day on the road and they were off
to a pretty rocky start.
"Someday he'll relize that he has to move on... I just hope that it's soon."
Lance added.

***************************

Chills flew up Eppie's spine as she boarded the airplane. THIS IS IT. Her
dad sat next to her on the plane and patted her on the back sympathetically.
Eppie laid back in her seat and stared at the ceiling of the plane. She
could feel the tears trying to build up in her eyes. GOOD BYE JUSTIN.
WHEREVER YOU ARE.

*********************
A month later

"WE LOVE YOU JUSTIN!" A hoarde of teenage girl yelled, watching intently as
the boys of 'N Sync piled into their limo.
The concerts had been going great. Justin would put on a humongous, fake
smile everytime he walked onto the stage and he would leave it there until
he got into the limo. Then he would put it back on as he walked through the
hotel lobby and get rid of it the moment he walked into his room. The other
guys were extremely worried about him. He had a picture of him and Eppie
with Mickey Mouse at Disney World that he would set on the nightstand next
to his bed of every hotel they went to. Every night he would look at it
before he went to bed.
"The period of mourning should not last this long!" Lance said, in his most
sophisticated, scientific tone.
JC tried to defend him. "Give him time. He's just really upset right now.
That's all. You'd be pretty depressed too if the same thing happened to
you!"

*********************
Meanwhile in Colorado...

Kim ran into Eppie's room. "Hey, Eppie... Guess what! You are going to be so
excite! I just got off the phone with Troy and he asked me if he should ask
you on a date because he really likes you and everything so I said that he
should because....."
Eppie groaned. It was just like Kim to try setting her up like this. "Thanks
alot, Kim." Eppie moaned.
"What?"
"That means now I have to be the bad guy and turn him down!"
"Why would you want to turn him down???"
"I just don't like him like that. He's a great guy and a great friend and
everything... but..."
"So why won't you just go on ONE date with him? If he's such a great
guy...." Kim asked.
"KIM! Why do you always do this?"
"Do what?"
"You're always butting in on my life. Trying to set me up with some guy...
Kim, I'm just not ready yet. Alright?"
Kim was beginning to get frustrated. "You know what? Actually, it's not
alright. You've been moping around here for months now. When are you gonna
realize that it's OVER! Forget about him. He's out of your life now!"
HOW DOES SHE KNOW ABOUT JUSTIN? -Eppie thought- I DIDN'T TELL HER ABOUT
HIM.... DID I?
Kim continued, "It's like your not even the same person anymore. You never
want to do anything fun. You never go out. FACE IT EPPIE! You haven't talked
to him in months. He didn't want a commitment. He didn't want you to be his
one and only. He's a JERK!"
"He's NOT a jerk, Kim!" Eppie yelled.
"He CHEATED on you with one of your friends, Ep! I don't know about you, but
that classifies a guy as a jerk for me!!!"
Eppie's head ached from the spinning it was doing. WHAT IS SHE TALKING
ABOUT?
"He cheated on me?" Eppie asked, still thinking that Kim was talking about
Justin. Tears filled her eyes and began to streak down her cheeks.
"Eppie! WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE YOU ON??? Ronnie cheated on you! Don't you
remember? With Lyssa! You NEED to get over him now. He's moved on and so
should YOU!"
Eppie began to laugh and cry hysterically. Kim was exasperated. What was
happening to her friend???
"Eppie, you're really starting to SCARE me! I think you are going crazy! I
really can't handle this! I have to go. Take some time to seriously think
about what I said.... It's time to move on now." Kim left Eppie's house
utterly confused and sad for her friend. WHAT IS UP WITH HER? - she tried to
understand what she THOUGHT Eppie was going through but she couldn't.
Nothing like that had ever happened to her before.

----------------------

Eppie and Kim hadn't talked for weeks. They felt like some of the longest
days of Eppie's life. She wanted to tell Kim everything. How she met Justin
and how everything was great... until he left, but she couldn't. She wanted
to put it behind her, in the back of her mind and never think about him
again. She couldn't do that either no matter how hard she would try. She
stopped listening to the radio in fear of hearing 'N Sync and bringing back
some painful memory. HE SAID I COULD TRUST HIM. THEY ALWAYS SAY THAT. AND
IT'S ALWAYS A LIE.

----------------------

Eppie's doorbell rang. She walked to the door and answered it.
It was Kim. THAT'S THE FIRST TIME SHE'S EVER USED THE BELL - Eppie thought.
"Hi." Kim started. "I'm sorry for trying to set you up. If you need time. I
understand. I shouldn't try to push you into anything. It's just that
sometimes I worry about you..... if you ever need to talk... about
ANYTHING... you know you can always come to me."
Eppie smiled and gave Kim a hug. "I'm sorry for being so nutty lately. I
know I've been hard to put up with."
They were silent for a while. They just stood there hugging.
Kim hated silent moments. "So, what do you say we go see a movie or
something. No boys. Just us girls?"
Eppie laughed. "Yeah, that would be fun."

**********************
3 months after Orlando...

Eppie's radio alarm clock went off promptly at 8:30 in the morning.
"...and guess what, ladies, we'll be giving out your free tickets, backstage
passes, and some meet and greets to see... you guessed it! 'N SYNC! AH!" The
Dj on the radio pretended to scream with enthusiasm.
Eppie reached for the clock and hit the sleep button. 'N SYNC IS COMING
TODAY. She rolled over and laid in her bed for about ten minutes, staring at
the ceiling.
The phone rang. Jesse ran into Eppie's room with the cordless. "Kim's on the
phone for you!"
GREAT -- Eppie thought. "Hey, Kim."
"Eppie! I am SO excited! WE are going to the 'N SYNC concert tonight! I can
hardly wait! Aren't you just a LITTLE excited too? I mean, you've GOT to
admit, they're gorgeous guys. ESPECIALLY Justin. Oh, well, you'll see what
I'm talking about tonight..." she continued to ramble on and on about the
concert.
Finally, Eppie interrupted, "Kim... I really don't think I'll be able to
make it to the concert with you tonight."
"What? Why not, Ep? I know you'll like it..."
"It's not that... It's just that... I really don't feel very good right
now..." It was true. Her stomache was in knots just thinking that Justin
would be so close, yet so far away.
"Well, if you're REALLY sick and you can't go... I guess I'll just have to
go by myself." Kim tried guilting Eppie into going.
"Why don't you take Michelle?" Eppie suggested.
"She doesn't like POP music. You know that!"
"Okay, how about... Cara?"
"She's in New York with her family." Kim was getting really upset. She had
been waiting for this day for months now and when it had finally come, her
best friend was backing out on her.
"I know," Eppie exclamed, "take my sister! She likes them. It'll be
perfect."
Kim thought it over and finally agreed. "Unless you feel better...."
"I don't think that's going to happen..." Eppie replied. She called her
sister into the room and told her the news.
"I get to see 'N SYNC?" She screamed. "OH, thank you SO much, Eppie! You're
the best sister EVER!"
Eppie handed the phone to her sister.
"Okay, the concert starts tonight at 7:30, so be over at my house at about
six, alright? We have to get there early so we can get good parking and some
really good spots on the lawn!" Kim told Jesse, still a little upset that
Eppie wasn't going to come with her.
I AM SO GLAD I GOT OUT OF THAT. THINGS COULD HAVE GOTTEN PRETTY UGLY --Eppie
sighed to herself.

****************************

JC, Joey, and Chris stared out the window of the tour bus.
"Well... here we are." Chris started.
"This is NOT going to be good." JC remarked.
"Maybe if we told Justin that we were somewhere else.... like.... I don't
know... somewhere OTHER THAN COLORADO... maybe he wouldn't even notice."
Justin walked over to them and looked out the window. "I'm just going to
have to deal with this, you guys. Don't worry about me. Somehow I'll get
through this."
Joey tried to help. "Well, maybe this could be a good thing. While we're at
the hotel, maybe you could look her up in the phone book and..."
JC shook his head and gave Joey the "Ok, shut up now" look.
"I can't. I don't even know her last name.... and even if I did, she would
never want to talk to me again."

Drive Myself Crazy
Part Eight
**********************

"Hey, people. This is your FAVORITE afternoon Dj, Spence and I'm here
talking with..."
"'N Sync!" The guys chimed in.
"Go ahead, girls. Scream. You know you want to!" The guys all pretended to
laugh.
"Alright, you guys. Now, we're going to do something a little different with
you. We're gonna let some of the fans call in and ask you some questions.
How does that sound to you?"
Joey jumped in. "That'd be great. Bring 'em on."
The other guys agreed.
"So, girls... get calling. You'll get a chance to talk with 'N Sync after
this commercial break."
The intro to the commercials played. The guys sat in silence as they waited.
JC picked up his waterbottle and began to sip out of it, Justin just stared
at the table in front him, Lance and Joey both stared at the wall across
from them, and Chris stared at JC who was drinking out of his water bottle
as if he was sitting in the middle of the desert and hadn't had water for
days.
Spence laughed at JC. "You'd better slow down with that. Otherwise, you'll
be in the bathroom during my interview!"
JC said nothing, but set the water bottle down and joined Justin in staring
at the table.
"You guys are sure a wild bunch, you know that?" The Dj joked. Joey looked
over at Spence with a half smile.
The guy in the booth spoke over the speakers. "Alright, you're on in 5, 4,
3, 2, and....
"Welcome back. If you're just tuning in, we've got a special treat for the
ladies. The guys from 'N SYNC are sitting right here with ME right NOW as we
speak to answer YOUR questions. And it looks like we've got our first caller
right here.... Hello? This is... Tina, right?"
An enthusiastic girl answered, "Yes, this is Tina. Hi, Spence. Hi 'N Sync!"
She screamed.
"Hi Tina." The guys replied.
"OH, my goodness. I love you guys soooo much. You have no idea! I am in
shock right now. I can't believe this! I can't believe I'm talking to 'N
SYNC!!! I love you Justin!" She screamed again.
"Well, we love you to." Joey screamed in a girly tone.
They all laughed. It even got a small smile out of Justin. Joey always knew
how to lift people's spirits.
"So, Tina... do you have a question for us?" JC asked.
"Yes, I do... actually, it's a question for Justin..."
"Well FINE! If you don't love the rest of US!" Chris joked.
"Justin, I was wondering... what's the sweetest thing you've ever done for a
girl?"
Justin looked over at JC. GREAT-- he thought.
"I don't know.... I guess it would be... I took a girl on a picnic at the
beach one time...." Justin answered reluctantly, trying to sound as cheery
as he possiblly could.
"That's sweet." Tina replied.
"Yeah." Spence jumped in. "What did you guys do on the beach, huh?" Spence
began to sing. "Do a little dance... Make a little love..."
Justin interrupted, "No. It was nothing like that. We just ate some food and
talked."
"Sure ya did." Spence joked.
"No. I'm serious. That's all we did. Honest." Justin began to stare into
nothingness. Remembering that day.
"Well, thanks for the question, Tina." Lance jumped in. "We really
appreciate it!"
"Yeah. Hey! You stay 'N SYNC ya hear?" Chris joked.
"Okay! I love YOU!" Tina screamed again and hung up.
"Well, now we're talking to Sara. Sara, do you have a question for one or
ALL of the guys?" Spence asked.
"Yes. My question is for Lance... Hi Lance!" She yelled.
"Hi Sara!" Lance yelled back. "Thanks for calling in." Lance replied.
"Lance, I was just wondering if you are going out with Danielle Fishel
because I heard that you were and..."
"I'm glad you asked that because I'd like to clear this up for everyone.
Danielle and I dated for a while, but now we're just friends... so, we never
actually were 'going out' but we did date. That's over now though... so..."
"So you're single?" Sara asked excitedly.
"Yes, I am single." Lance answered.
Spence butted in, "How about the rest of you guys, huh? You guys single?"
Chris, Lance, Joey and JC looked over at Justin sympathetically. "Yeah,
we're all single." JC jumped in. Trying to change the subject, he said,
"Thank you for calling Sara!"
"You guys have to be kidding me!" Spence laughed. JC gave him a dirty look.
"Are you at least DATING? Or is there someone in your life that you would
LIKE to date?"
Lance rolled his eyes. "Sure we all date...."
"Actually," Justin interrupted, "there is someone that I think about
alot...."
Chris grabbed his hair in aggrivation. "Here we go." He mumbled to Joey.
"Get the kleenex box ready."
"Oh really?" Spence asked Justin, excited to get peice of gossip about "'N
Sync's Dreamboy".
"She's from here. We met in Flordia and dated for a while.... and then I was
SUCH a jerk........ and it ended."
Justin's stomache began to hurt just talking about it.
"Oh, that's so sad!" Sara commented.
Now Spence rolled his eyes. "That's why you've been acting like a zombie!"
Spence laughed.
Justin continued, "....if she's listening right now....I just want her to
know that... I'm sorry and I love her."
"Well, Sara, thanks AGAIN for calling. It was nice talking to you." JC tried
again to move the interview along.
"No problem! I love you guys! Especially Lance! And... I hope everything
works out with Justin and... that girl..."
"Don't we all." Spence kidded. "Well, I think it's about time for another
commercial. When we get back, more with 'N SYNC!!!"
Justin stood up while the commercials played. "I really have to get out of
here, you guys."
"We know." Chris replied in his most sympathetic voice.
"I'm gonna go back to the hotel and sleep... When you get back... just wake
me before you head out to the venue."
The guys nodded. They knew this whole day was going to be hard for Justin,
but they had no idea how he was feeling. He felt sick to his stomache and
his head hurt so badly that he thought it would explode. His heart was in
his throat. He could barely breathe. Justin had been walking around all
morning in a daze. To him it was all like a nightmare that he couldn't stop.
