Chapter 13
The two got up and got dressed. They walked out of the room, Justin behind Rae with his hands wrapped around her stomach. Everyone was sitting in the living room and looked up to see the two lost in each other.

"Oh my God!!!" Chris yelled standing up.

"Chris, sit down," J.C. said.

"Look at that. I bet they just had sex," Chris said obviously taken away by the power of alcohol.

"Chris!" J.C. exclaimed.

"You guys, he's drunk ignore him," Christina said.

Justin and Rae looked at each other and laughed. Everyone got quiet noticing this little action between the two.

"Why didn't you guys protest to his comment?" Joey asked in utter confusion.

"Maybe you guys were right all along. Maybe we are more than just friends," Rae answered looking at Justin and smiling.

"Pay up," Joey said to Chris sticking his hand out.

"Joey stop. They are too cute," Katie said looking at how much in love they were with each other.

"I can't believe it. Dawson and Joey finally got together," Lance said also wasted.

Everyone laughed and continued to party. About an hour later people started to leave and the party wound down a little. Lance passed out on the couch and Chris fell asleep on the kitchen table. The non stop heavy dancing tired him out. All of Rae's and Christina's college friends left as well as Katie and Joey. Justin and Rae decided to get some sleep, or so they claimed, so they went back to Rae's room. The only people awake were J.C. and Christina. They continued to converse out on the back patio talking.

"I can't believe that about Rae and Justin. What do you think happened between them?" Christina questioned.

"I'm not sure, but they both looked VERY happy," J.C. smiled emphasizing the word very.

"Yeah they did."

There was a moment of silence.

"Do you think maybe I could give you a kiss before I leave?" J.C. asked nervously.

Christina looked at him smiling.

"I thought you would never ask."

He walked over to her grabbing her hands and moving his own to rest on her waist. He then moved in and pecked her lips. She then opened her mouth to intensify the kiss a little more. Wrapping her hands around his neck, she played with the hair on his neckline. He then pulled away after the two finished their kiss.

"I guess I'll see you tomorrow," Christina said noticing it was over.

"If not, I'll probably go crazy."

She smiled taking one more peck from his soft lips.

"Bye," he said letting go of her.

"Bye," she said waving her hand then pulling them down to cross over her waist.

Chapter 14
The next few weeks, Rae spent every second she could with Justin. Everyone figured out what was going on. They couldn't be away from each other. It was like once they were together you couldn't separate them. Justin and the group had plans to go back on the road and Rae had to face the harsh reality of him leaving her for a month. However, she could at least keep herself busy with school. J.C. and Christina also worked on a relationship. They slowly fell in love with each other. The day came that 'N Sync had to leave.

"I'm gonna miss you so much," Justin said hugging Rae.

"I know. How could you not," she said laughing.

"No seriously. I don't know what I'm gonna do without you for a month," she said pulling away still in his arms.

"I'm calling you every night," he said leaning in for a quick kiss.

A tear fell from her eye thinking of how horrible it was going to be on her for that next month.

"Baby, only a month."

"I know. I don't know how I'm gonna do it."

"You're gonna be fine."

"I love you so much," Rae said kissing him again.

"I love you too baby."

"Bye," she said letting go of him.

"Bye," he said also letting go of her and walking towards the limo. When pulling out, he hung out his window and yelled, "I love you Rae", leaving Rae smiling.

"The things he does to get my attention," she thought out loud waving as they emerged from her driveway. She continued back up her front steps and walked into her house.

"Christina, what I'm I going to do?" Rae asked falling on the couch with a frown.

"Girl, you'll be fine. Just think what it's gonna be like when he comes back."

"I know, but when I even think about him I get frustrated because I know he's gone."

"Yeah well, that's what we get for getting involved with famous guys."

"Speaking of which, what's up with you and J.C.? I noticed you guys kissing good bye," Rae inquired with a smile leaning against the back of the couch.

Christina's eyes sparkled at her remark and she sighed of happiness. "I'm so happy we finally hooked up Rae. I thought it never was going to happen."

"Ha. Well, I'm glad you're happy."

"You too."

"Give me a hug," Rae said reaching out to her friend. The two hugged and then sighed.

"It's going to be a long damn month."

A week later Rae and Christina started up school again. Rae talked to Justin on the phone every night. They usually talked about how much they missed each other, but from time to time they talked about what was going on in each other's lives.

Chapter 15
The end of the month came closer as Rae became more restless for his arrival. Justin told Rae he would be back that coming up Friday, when he planned to surprise her and come home that Wednesday. The guys got in late Wednesday afternoon and everyone got settled. Justin made his way over to Rae's house. He told Christina the plan and had her make plans to meet up with J.C. at his house so him and Rae could have the apartment to themselves. When he pulled up he saw Rae's car sitting out front and just the thought of her made his heart warm. He made his way up to the door and noticed the door was unlocked so he decided to just walk in. When he opened the door he saw her sitting at the kitchen table deep into her studies.

"Hey Christina, your mom called," Rae said quickly not even looking up.

"Oh really," Justin said catching her attention and making her look up.

"Justin!" she yelled jumping out of her chair and running to him. She jumped into his arms and hugged him tightly. She then placed a hundred kisses on him.

"I can't believe you're actually here."

"I missed you so much, I couldn't wait till Friday," Justin said brushing the hair out of her face.

"Oh my goodness you, I missed you so much more. Look, I'm actually doing my homework. That's how bored I was."

Justin laughed and stopped her by kissing her. The two made their way to the bedroom and had another unforgettable night. The next morning Rae woke up early because she had a morning class. She didn't bother to wake up Justin. She went in the bathroom and got into the shower. The sound of the water running woke Justin up. He noticed it was Rae, so he quickly got up and grabbed her notebook for school. After writing in it for a second he heard the water turn off. He finished what he was writing and quickly jumped back into bed. Rae walked out wrapped in her towel and saw Justin sitting up in the bed with his hands behind his head.

"Hey baby," Justin said passing Rae a seductive smile.

"Hi sweetie, sleep good?"

"Cuddling with you, who couldn't?"

"I guess you have a point," Rae said sitting next to Justin giving him a kiss.

Justin sat up and placed his arms around her. Burying his head in her chest he moaned.

"Why do you have to go to school?"

"Probably because I need to get a degree so I can support us when you get to old to dance."

"Good point, go to school."

"I don't want to go either, believe me. I could sit here all day with you and be perfectly fine."

"That's funny, so could I."

"Yeah that's funny," Rae said tickling Justin.

"Go get dressed, you're getting me all wet."

"Oh excuuuuuuse me," Rae said standing up and flipping her head around causing Justin to get hit with water.

"You're lucky it's early and I don't feel like coming after you."

"Yeah, I'm real lucky," she said sarcastically.

"Get yo booty outta my face," Justin said slapping her butt.

"Hey, don't touch my ass."

"Make me."

Rae ignored his comment and went to get her clothes. After getting ready she said good bye to Justin and headed to school.

Chapter 16
She arrived minutes later and took a seat in her first class. When she took out her notebook she recognized some unfamiliar writing on an open page. She turned it upwards and began to read it.

"Through the worst, through the best, even when you're heart's feeling, heavy on your
chest. Through the fire, through the flood, my love for you, runs deeper, Deeper than
blood." Love always, Justin.

The words brought tears to her eyes. Those were the lyrics to their song. The song they called their favorite. Every word sank into her heart warming it. Reading it over and over, she was interrupted by the professor calling her name.

"Rae. Rae."

Rae broke free of her daze noticing her name was being called. She looked up to see the professor and the rest of the class looking in her direction.

"Sorry."

"Sorry to draw you from whatever you're doing but could you please pay attention in my class."

"Yes, I'm sorry."

"Thank you, moving right along."

'What did I do to deserve such a loving person. Someone who cared for me. Always knowing when to make me laugh and how to make me happy. I couldn't ask for anything more,' Rae thought to herself once again drifting off in to her own little world. After class was over, Rae hurried back to her apartment to see if Justin was still there. There was no sign of his car so she decided to go back to his place. She got out and rang the doorbell but no one answered.
'Where could he be?' she asked herself returning to her car.
She drove around a little and made a few calls but couldn't find him, so she decided to just go back to her place and wait for him. She got out of the car and went inside. There was a note lying on the kitchen table.
'Of course there's a note, after I drive around for an hour looking for him.'
She opened the note and read:

Dear Rae,
I ran up to the store for a few things. I'll be back in a few hours. See you soon. Love
you!
Justin

'I wonder what he's getting at the store that takes a few hours?' Rae thought. She decided to not worry about it and go watch some t.v. When going to sit down her vision got very blurry and everything got very dizzy. Her head started to pound and Rae fell to the floor. She was screaming but no one was there to hear her. Suddenly everything went black.

Chapter 17
Minutes later Justin arrived back home.

"Rae, I'm back."

There was no answer.

"Rae?" Justin yelled looking around the house not hearing a reply. He made his way into the living room to see Rae lying on the floor.

"Oh my God!" he yelled running over to her and dropping on his knees.

"Rae! Rae! Answer me. Please!" Justin shouted as tears formed in his eyes. He knew something was very wrong. She was breathing but she appeared to be unconscious. He quickly ran to the phone and dialed 911. He spoke with the operator and told her the circumstances. Minutes later an ambulance arrived and took Rae to the hospital. Justin rode with her in the ambulance but once reaching the hospital he had to wait in the waiting room. He then made calls to everyone telling them what happened. He phoned his mom and had her get a hold of Rae's mom. Kathryn caught the first flight out of Memphis and was on her way down. While in the process of making calls a doctor walked up to Justin tapping him on the shoulder.

"Sir, did you bring in that young miss earlier?"

"Yes," Justin said hanging up the phone. He saw the look in the doctor's eyes. They were sad and sympathetic.

"I have some bad news sir."

"No, no," Justin said shaking his head fearing what the doctor was going to say. His eyes teared up and he started to shake.

"It was too late. There's was in aneurysm. We couldn't do anything about it. I'm sorry."

"No, you have to do something. Please. I beg you."

"Sir, she's gone. I'm terribly sorry."

A heavy breath escaped his mouth and he began to cry harder. He sat down with his face in his hands.

"Why?" Justin asked sulking.

Minutes later J.C., Chris, Lance, Joey, Christina, Katie, and Lynn showed up. They rushed into the waiting room to see Justin's head against the wall.

"Justin! Where is she? Is she okay?" Lynn asked.

Justin looked up to see everyone standing there confused and worried. They saw the face Justin gave them and knew something was terribly wrong.

"Justin. Answer me."

"She..she...she's gone," Justin stuttered in a low whisper beginning to cry again.

Everyone's face turned ghost white. The room became silent and tears accumulated in their eyes. Lynn began to sulk out loud and walked to her son giving him a hug. Christina grabbed J.C.'s hand. He could see the pain in her eyes. He took her in for a hug. Chris sat down and could only bear to look down. Lance slid his hands in his pockets and stared at the wall. Joey grabbed Katie and a tear ran down his face. Justin continued to sulk in his mother's arms.

"Where is the doctor?" Lynn asked to Justin.

"He went back. He told me to wait here for Dr. Taylor to explain to us what happened."

Lynn wiped the tears form her sons face as well as her own. She took Justin's hand and sat him down. She waited there with him hand and hand.

Chapter 18
Soon after Dr. Taylor walked down, flushed and his faced showed grief. He walked in wiping over his face and removing his glasses. Justin stood up at his presence. Dr. Taylor walked over to him and gave him a hug.

"How are you holding up?"

"I'm not," Justin answered sadly.

Lynn walked up shaking the doctor's hand.

"I want to explain to you guys what happened," Dr. Taylor began.

"Take a seat," he insisted directing them to a group of chairs.

They all gathered around and waited for Dr. Taylor to begin.

"As we all know Rae started out with a tumor in her spine. After we did the surgery we were positive it was gone. What happened was side effects of the tumor moved up into her brain causing an aneurysm. That is a type of a blood clot. What happened with Rae was totally uncontrollable. The aneurysm clotted her brain without warning and it increased the pressure in her brain causing her to go unconscious. Once in that state it took full control of her brain and all of the vessels busted instantly killing her. We tried everything there was to try. It was an unfortunate mishaps and I'm very sorry for not saving her. She meant very much to me too."
Lynn patted the doctors back seeing how sad he had become thinking about it. Justin looked out into space with eyes all teared up again. Everyone comforted each other.

"Can I see her?" Justin asked the doctor.

"Yes, are you sure you want to do that?"

"Yes."

"Okay, follow me."

Justin got up and followed the doctor up to intensive care.

"Here it is," Dr. Taylor said pointing out the room.

Justin walked in and his body froze. He saw her laying with her eyes closed and her mouth neutral. She was pale and her body looked very cold. He walked over to the bed and began to cry. She looked so unhappy, as if she knew she was going to die. He picked up her hand and his body was covered with chills. He could barely see her out of his eyes because the tears blurred everything out. He wiped his eyes off with his other hand and placed it down on her shoulder.

"Oh Rae, I miss you so much."

He began to observe her hands and noticed she was still wearing the ring he won her at Chucky Cheese's when they were ten. Her hands looked so young. The skin was fair and barely wrinkled. He then noticed her bracelet. It was the one his mom gave her for her sweet sixteen. It was shiny and silver with the words, my little girl, engraved into it. He looked further and saw her necklace. It was a silver rainbow with diamond studs on the clouds. Her mother had given it to her when she had overcome her breast cancer. She told Rae that after all of the bad times she had with her disease, Rae symbolized the rainbow that shined through. All the memories of their childhood flashed through his mind. The time when Rae went to see Justin on The Mickey Mouse Club and she waved to him and he ignored her. He remembered how horrible he felt afterwards. He never thought she would forgive him. And the time when they first kissed at the beach and Rae got stung by a jellyfish. All the bad and good times filled his head and he began to cry even more. Holding her hand he felt his slip away. The sweat had made it hard to hold on. He leaned down giving her one last kiss on her cheek and walked away. About an hour later Kathryn made her way to the hospital. Still believing her daughter was alive she ran into the waiting room in a panic.

"Where is she? Dammit, where is she?"

Everyone looked at her with sad eyes not saying a word.

"Answer me."

Lynn stood up embracing Kathryn.

"Kath, she..she didn't make it."

Kathryn threw down Lynn's arms and began to protest.

"No, you're lying. It's not true," Kathryn yelled covering her ears.

"Where's Dr. Taylor?" Kathryn asked sternly.

"He's upstairs. Kath you need to calm down," Lynn insisted.

Kathryn made her way upstairs crying and in a hurry to find the doctor. When seeing him she ran to him.

"Where is my daughter?"

"Kathryn calm down."

"No, I want to see my daughter."

"She's gone Kath."

"I won't listen to this, where is she?"

"Kathryn, please just calm down, I will explain what happened."

"Dammit, I want to see her."

"Right this way," he said giving up and taking her to her room.

"Here," he conveyed pointing into the room.

Kathryn walked in to see her daughter lay limp on the hospital bed. No breath escaped her mouth and her body was pale white. She ran over and grabbed her hand. The coldness cut through Kathryn's heart. She saw the face of fear on Rae's face. She knew she was scared.

"Rae, wake up. Please honey. For mommy. Please baby, wake up."

Justin walked into the room to see Kathryn in a panic trying to wake up her daughter. He walked over to her placing his hands on her shoulder. Kathryn turned around to see the sadness on his face.

"She's not coming back, she's gone," Justin said quietly.

Kathryn grabbed Justin and sulked in his chest. Justin rubbed his hands down her back and whispered, "Shh, it's gonna be okay." She released from the hug.

"Why Rae? Why did he have to take Rae?"

"Miss Sammons, everything happens for a reason. All I know is there better be a damn good reason for this. But I'll go ahead and let you say your good byes."

"Justin. I want to thank you for being the best thing that happened to my daughter. I know you know that, but I wanted to thank you."

"It has been my absolute pleasure."

On that comment Justin left the room. Kathryn walked back over to her daughter and picked up her hand.

"Look at you. You look so beautiful. How did I get so lucky."

Kathryn began to slide her hands over Rae's cheeks. She noticed she was wearing the rainbow necklace she had given her.

"You were my rainbow. You are my rainbow. Everything about you is beautiful. I just wish I could see, no, I'm not going to do that. I don't want to make more pain than I already feel. I want you to know Rae that I love you very much. Always have and always will."

Kathryn bent down kissing her forehead and let go of her hand.

"See you in heaven sweetheart."

She walked out and joined everyone in the waiting room.
